Wednesday was "Hobby Night" when Kippen East Women's Institute met in the Legion Hall, Hensall, and answered the roll call by displaying their work dpne as a hobby. Mrs. Grant MacLean commented on the motto "Leisure is the time of your life." Mrs. Ross Sararas, who chaired the program, introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Douglas Cook of Hensall, who spoke on her hobby of painting. She displayed her work done as a hobby and described the need we all have to express ourselves. Reports of the standing committees were given by Mrs. Dave Triebner for Agriculture and Canadian. Industries; Mrs. Grant MacLean for Home Economics and Health; Mrs. John Sinclair for Current Events. President Mrs. Ken McKay chaired the business portion of the meeting. Mrs. Alex McGregor and Mrs. Mike Connolly reported their trip to Lansing, Mich., to the meeting of the Associated Country Women of the World. The Huron County Rally will be held at Cranbrook October 7. Mrs. June Cooper and Mrs. Alex McGregor will be the local leaders for the short course "dressmaking with a difference". Anyone wishing to take this course is to notify either of the leaders. Mrs. Kenneth McLean and Mrs. Windsore are leading the 4-H Club girls' project "Cottons may be Smart", Fines were paid by five members for not wearing their WI pins. A Conundrum Tea was served by the lunch committee, Mrs. G. MacLean, Mrs. R. Sararas, Mrs. R. Kinsman, Mrs. M.' Connolly and Mrs, Joyce Cooper, Arm amputated after accident Melvin Elliott, RR 1 Zurich, had to have his right arm amputated following a combine accident on his farm Wednesday afternoon. Westlake Ambulance Service, Zurich, with police escort from Exeter Town Police and London Police rushed the injured man to St. Joseph's Hospital, London, where surgery was performed. At date of writing he was in satisfactory condition. GUEST MINISTER Rev. Harold Snell, minister of Riverside United Church, London, was guest minister at Chiselhurst United Church Anniversary Service Sunday afternoon. Rev. Harold F. Currie assisted with the service. Music was provided by the Hibbert Township Trio comprised of Joan Dow, Verna and Beth Christie. Guest soloist was Gary Scholl of Hensall. The choir under direction of Mrs. A. Ross rendered a selection. Rebekah deputy to visit Mensal' Noble Grand Mrs. Jack Corbett presided for the regular meeting of Amber Rebekah Lodge. Wednesday evening when a letter was read informing them of the visit of District Deputy President Mrs. Mary Lowe of Brussels during second meeting, October 16. She will install the officers for 1968-69. It was decided to invite all members of Brussels Lodge to attend the installation meeting. Mrs. Ellen Walker who celebrated a birthday September 19 was presented with a bouquet of flowers, and members are asked to remember her with cards. Following the meeting a silent auction of produce, baking, plants, etc., was held. Mrs. Inez McEwen and Mrs. Pearl Shaddick were in charge of this project. Will conduct blind canvas The annual canvas for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind will be concluded in this area early in October. E.R. Luther, manager of the Bank of Montreal, Hensall, is campaign chairman. He will be assisted in the canvass by the Women's Institute, Arnold Circle, Rebekahs and the Legion Auxiliary. Residents in the area not contacted by canvassers are kindly requested to forward their donations direct to Mr. Luther. Miss. Ann Mickle left Friclay, for London where she will enter her third Year at the University of Western Ontario. Miss Etta Jarrett and MSS Vera Colbert of StretfPrd were recent visitors with AIM John E. McEwen, Mrs, Bertha MacGregor visited last week with Mr, & Mrs. Eric Munroe Sea forth. Mrs, Ida Dick of London visited this week with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr, & Mrs, Doug Dick and family. Mrs. Pearl Shaddick, Mrs, R.A. Qrr, Mrs. Inez McEwen members of Amber Rebekah Lodge visited patients at the Queensway Nursing 'Home Wednesday afternoon and entertained the eighteen patients with recordings and treats, A showing of thirty original oil paintings by Mrs. Grace Peck, local artist of Hensall, is on exhibition in Clinton Public Library from September 15 to October 15. Varna grower again tops fruit Perennial winner in the fruits and vegetables division of the fair, Fred McClymont of Varna again placed first but had some close competition. McClymont's produce gained 17 firsts, 25 seconds and six thirds while Victor Jeffrey was close behind in the red ribbon department with 15. Jeffrey also chalked up three second place finishes. Mrs. Harold Cudmore had nine firsts, three seconds and two thirds, John Kingma picked up eight firsts and five thirds and Roy Pepper took five firsts, nine seconds and a pair of thirds. Getting three wins apiece were Mrs. Keith McLaren and Mrs. Inez Dickey while Mrs. Thomas G, Hem, Ihor Orenchuk and Hem Farms each took two first prizes. Scoring two firsts were Mrs. Tom Triebner, Ron Mostrey, Mrs. George Sereda, Mrs. G. VanSteeg and Mr. Lewis. Road, Mrs. Wilbert Dilling was the, lucky winner of picnic table in free draw donated by Conklin Lumber, Exeter at Exeter Fair Thursday. COURSE$ PLANNED A Seaforth Chamber of Commerce meeting learned Tuesday that two extension courses may be offered there this fall by Conestoga College of Applied Arts and Technology. College president James Church told C of C members of the consideration to teach business procedure and agriculture in Seaforth.
