The September meeting of
the Women's Missionary Society
of Carmel Presbyterian Church
was held Monday evening in the
Sunday School rooms with vice
president Mrs. George Wals
presiding.
Thedevotional and study was
given by Mrs. Rochus Faber and
Mrs. Archie Hoggarth.
Members reported having
made 19 visits to sick and shut
ins and, new corners.
A minute of silent prayer was
observed for the two members
who passed away since the June

Chiselhurst United. Church
Sunday with the minister, Rev.
Harold Currie in charge.
A record player from Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Parker and family in
loving memory of their daughter
Dorothy, Mrs. Douglas Daley

and dedicated by Rev. Currie
who spoke on music in the
service of worship.
Miss Minnie Reid of Paris
visited with friends and relatives
here and attended the funeral of
the late Mrs. Eleanor McKenzie.
Mrs. Mary Taylor left
yesterday by train for Halifax,
N.S. where she will spend two
weeks visiting with her
granddaughter-in-law Mrs. Allan
Young and son.

"taken to St. Joseph's Hospital,
London, by ambulance Monday
afternoon with a fractured left
hip sustained in a fall.
Flowers in the sanctuary of
Hensall United Church Sunday
morning were in memory of Mrs.
Peter McKenzie and Mrs.
Thomas Taylor, placed by
members of the family.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones,
Grant and Kenneth, attended
the Toner-Gackstetter wedding
at Guelph Saturday. Grant and
Kenneth provided the music for
the reception and dance which
followed at the Breslau Hotel.

The autumn season opened
on Thursday afternoon for the
Hensall United. Church Women
Unit 4 in Fellowship Hall.
Mrs. E. Chipchase presided
and opened with a poem and
prayer.
Mrs. Laird Mickle had charge
of the devotional, giving a
synopsis of the Bible reading.
The study was presented by
Mrs. N. E. Cook on "Why does
God send trouble makers?"
Mrs. Mickle rendered two
piano selections and Mrs.
Chipchase read poem.
The first meeting of the
"Drop In Centre" will be Sept.
18 from 10 to 11 a.m. in
Fellowship Hall.
The next general meeting is
scheduled for Monday evening,
October 21 with unit 4 in
charge.
Pauline and 'Proyann, have
returned from a vacation to
Toronto and Niagara Falls.
Miss Pauline Bell has returned
from St. Thomas Figure Skating
School where she attended the
past eight weeks and was
successful in passing tests.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bozzato and
Dana of Port Colborne have
returned after spending threel
weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. T.
Kyle of Hensall.
Mrs. Ed Fink is a patient in
South Huron Hospital, Exeter.

hears reports

Corbett presided for the opening
meeting of Amber Rebekah
Lodge No. 349 assisted by Vice
Grand Mrs. Earl Campbell, who
reported for the visiting,
committee.
"Thank You" notes were
received from members and the
recording secretary, Mrs. Leona
Park, read Mrs. Marjorie
Broadfoot's report on the year's
work.
Mrs. George Clifton P.N.G.
and Mrs. Lindsay Eyre Jr. P. N.
G. who attended Grand Lodge
Sessions held in Toronto in June
gave interesting reports and
thanked the lodge for sponsoring
them as representatives.
Arrangements were made to
hold an auction following the
meeting September 18. All
members are asked to bring an
article suitable for sale.
A social hour followed in the
lower hall, when the members
enjoyed a pot-luck supper and
social time.

An accident involving two
cars, one and a half miles south
of Hensall on Highway 4 Friday
afternoon hospitalized one
person and caused $1,000
property damage.
Miss Patricia Harris, 21, RR 1
Cromarty, was travelling north
in her car and another vehicle
driven by George A. Cardiff, 17, •
RR 2 Brussels, was proceeding
west on the Town Line. They
collided at the intersection.
Robert. Mennell, 23, Seaforth,
passenger in the Cardiff car was
taken by Westlake Ambulance to
Seaforth Community Hospital
with undetermined injuries.
O.P.P. Dale Lamont of Exeter
Detachment stated charges were
pending.
District woman
dies at age 76
Mrs. Peter McKenzie, RR 3
Kippen, passed away in South
Huron Hospital, Exeter,
Wednesday evening, September
4 where she had been a patient
for several weeks.
The former Eleanor Hood,
she was in her 77th year. Her
husband passed away in 1955.
Surviving are four sons, Lloyd
and Murray, RR 3 Kippen;
Joseph and Kenneth, Brucefield;
two daughters, Mrs. Harold
(Gladys) Cudmore, RR 1
Hensall, and Eleanor, London;
one sister, Mrs. Edward (Norma)
Perkin, London; one brother,'
Nelson Hood, Kippen; eleven
grandchildren.
Public funeral service was
held from Bonthron Funeral
Home, Hensall, Saturday
conducted by Rev. J. C. Boyne.
Interment was in Bairds
Cemetery, Stanley Township,
Pallbearers were Gordon
Schwalm, Stuart Wilson, Ross
Chapman, Preston Dallas, Jim
McNaughton and Howard
Dayman.

John H. Volland of Hensall
passed away Sunday in St.
Joseph's Hospital, London.
The late Mr. Volland was in
his 88th year, and was
hospitalized in South Huron
Hospital, Exeter, and St.
Joseph's Hospital for four
weeks.
He was a resident of Goderich
for 32 years, taking up residence
in Hensall two years ago.
In February 1967, Mr. and
Mrs. Volland celebrated their
Diamond wedding anniversary.
Surviving are his wife,
Elizabeth Albrecht; two sons
Clarence, Hensall, and Bruce,
Goderich; three daughters, Mrs.
Eldon (Vera) Johnston,
Brucefield, Mrs. Lorne (Irene)
Finlayson, Hensall, and Mrs.
Louis (Beatrice) Taylor, Varna;
16 grandchildren and 22 great
grandchildren.
Funeral service was held from
the Bonthron Funeral Home
Tuesday conducted by Rev. G.L.
Royal of Goderich. Interment
was in Hensall Union cemetery.
Pallbearers were Keith and
Grant Volland, Ronald Taylor,
Reg and Laird Finlayson and
Glen Nixon. Flowerbearers were
Murray Finlayson, Raymond
Volland, Leotta Johnston and
Barbara Taylor.

The annual Richardson
reunion was held in Hensall
Commnnity Park Sunday with
74 Present, Mr, & Mrs. Ross
Richardson and family were in
charge of all arrangements. The
children enjoyed races and
several games after which the
adults participated in a few
relays and a tug of war. While
the ladies prepared a delicious
supper the men played ball. The
1969 reunion will be in charge
of Ruth Richardson and family.

Toronto spent a few days with.

with a gift of money; and a
community shower was held in
the Legion Hall, Hensall,

United Church Women of
Hensall United Church
entertained the patients of the
Bluewater Rest Home Tuesday
evening with a delightful and
varied program including vocal
solos, duets, bagpipe selections,
musical numbers on the violin,
guitar, banjo, and piano. Lunch
was served. In charge of
arrangements were Mrs. Doug
Cook, Mrs. E. Chipchase, Mrs.
Walter Spencer and Mrs. Win.

Lighted candelabra and
baskets of deep pink gladioli and
white mums formed the setting
in Carmel Presbyterian Church,
Hensall, Saturday for the
wedding of Sandra Isobel Troyer
and Fred Edward Funk.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Troyer,
Hensall, and the groom is the
son of Mrs. Mary Funk, Hensall
and the late Edward Funk.
The Rev. J.C. Boyne
officiated at the double ring
ceremony. Mrs. Malcolm
Dougall, Exeter, provided
traditional organ wedding music
and accompanied the soloist,
James Dougall, Harriston, who
sang The Wedding Prayer and 0
Perfect Love.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride chose a
floor-length gown fashioned
from lagoda crepe with
re-embroidered alencon lace
forming the bodice in empire
line and long lily point sleeves.
The detachable train of the same
lace swept to chapel length. A
pearl petalled cluster held a four
tiered French illusion facial veil
in place. She carried cascade of
deep pink roses and white mums
with streamers.
Maid of honor Miss Gayle
Smithrim, Strathroy, and
bridesmaids Miss Faye Troyer,
sister of the bride,, Hensall, and
MIST Ann' Funk, sister of the
groom, Brampton, wore
identical sheath floor-length
gowns of deep rose chiffon over
taffeta. Chiffon petals
emphasized the empire waistline
and they wore matching
headpieces of chiffon petals.
They carried white mums with
green velvet streamers;
Flowergirl Miss Cathy Troyer,
niece of the bride, was gowned
similarly to the other attendants
and carried a basket of pink
roses and white baby mums.
Groomsman was Roy Bell,
Hensall, and ushers were William
Tinney, Hensall, and Gordon
Deitz, London.
The mother of the bride
chose an A-line blue dress of
French peau de soie, featuring
blue beaded trim on the rounded
neckline and sleeves, navy
accessories and pink sweetheart
roses. The groom's mother chose
a turquoise brocade dress and
jacket ensemble, navy
accessories and a corsage of
white mums and pink sweetheart
roses.
Following receptions in the
church parlor and at the bride's
home, the bride and groom left
on a honeymoon to points in the
United States.
For travelling the bride chose
a flamingo wool boucle dress and
jacket ensemble, black hat and
gloves, black patent accessories
and a white orchid.
On their return the couple
will reside in Hensall.
The bride was feted at several
showers , prior. to. marriage.~
Miscellaneous showers were
given by Mrs. Roy Bell, Hensall;
Miss Eleanor Rae, London, was
hostess for the bride's associates
from Clarkson, Gordon and Co;
that firm held a social event
