dies in hospital

Mrs. Herbert E, Jeffery, London,
was held from the George E.
Logan and Sons Funeral Chapel,
London, Tuesday. Interment was
in Woodland Cemetery.
The late Mrs. Jeffery, who was
the Winer Ruth Lorraine Downs,
passed away in Victoria Hos-
,pital, London, Saturday. She was
the daughter of Mrs, James Down,
and the late Mr. Downs of Lon-
don. Her mother is the former
Emma. Bullard of Hensel'.
She is survived by her husband;
one son, Gary Herbert of Lon-
don; her Mother; and two sisters
and three brothers, all of London.
Relatives from Hensall and dis-
trict attended the funeral.
Surprise couple
on anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Funnel and
Robert McNaughton pleasantly
surprised their parents, Mr. and
Mrs. James McNaughton Sunday
when they entertained 30 guests
to a dinner party. The happy
occasion was in honor of Mr.
and Mrs. McNaughton's silver
wedding anniversary. Guests at-
tended from Toronto, Guelph,
Zurich, St. Clements, Brucefielcl
and Hensall.

Mrs. Myrtle Dick returned
home after visiting with her
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. &
Mrs. William Harvey in London.
Henry Adkins, RR 2 Hensall,
met with a painful accident while
assisting his son Howard on his
farm on the Parr Line, five miles
west of Hpnsall.
Mr. Adkins' hand was caught
in the grain auger. His right
arm was broken, he lost one
finger and part of another.
He underwent surgery at St.
Joseph's Hospital, London and
returned home Saturday,
Dr. Charles Wallace was the
attending physician.
Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Geiger
of Gore Bay, former principal
of Public schools in Northern
Ontario visited the past week
with Mrs. Eric Kennedy and Ira
Geiger.
Mrs. Allan Davidson and Cindy
of Port Colborne have returned
home after a holiday with the
former's mother, Mrs. Verna
Twitchell.
Mr. and Mrs. Basil Fuller of
Cloburne, Texas, and Mrs. Her-
bert Aitken, Dale and Danny,
London, visited with Mr. and.
Mrs. R. A. Orr recently.
Mrs. William Davidson of Port
Colborne visited here with Mrs.
George Thompson and also visit-
ed friends here and in Wingham.

Mr. & Mrs. Harold Finkbeiner

rice Heist and Judy, returned.on
Monday evening from a trip to the
East Coast, travelling through
Quebec, Maine USA, and New
Brunswick and Nova Scotia. They
reported the temperature on
Thursday and Friday evening
down in the 30's while Ontario
suffered through a heat wave.

and Lori Anne, Waterloo, spent
the weekend with Mr. & Mrs.
Lorne Devine. Gary Latta return-
ed home after spending seven
weeks with his aunt and uncle.

turned home after a six week
figure skating course in St.
Thomas where she was success-
ful in passing a Senior Hrenze
Dance ,,The Fourteen Steps" and
also a set of figures.
Mrs. Louise Simpson, who has
been a patient in South Huron
Hospital for a month, returned
home Wednesday. She accom-
panied her daughter-in-law, Mrs.
Wm. Simpson back to Birming-
ham

Michigan where she will
visit for a week.
Mrs. Hilda Smale, Jim and
David, and Tom Smale, visited
with relatives this week in Ona-
way, Michigan.
Sim Roobol, who has been
spending a three week vacation
in Holland, returned home Wed-
nesday. Mrs. Roobol, at pres-
ent is in Holland, will return to
Canada on September 29. Her
85-year-old father underwent
surgery in the hospital and is
improving nicely.
Mrs. R. D. McArthur, Cam
and Mac, have returned to Ed-
monton after a holiday spent with
Mrs. McArthur's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Beer.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Reynolds
spent last week vacationing at
Ahmic Harbor and French River.
They also spent a day with Mr.
and Mrs. Bev Alexander at their
cottage on the French River.

ist. Members of the Hensall
United Church will be worshiping
in Carmel Presbyterian Church
Sunday. Rev. Harold Currie will
be back in his pulpit Sunday,
September 8.

Exchange vows in Hensall
In Carmel Presbyterian
Church, Hensall, August 1'7, the
Rev. J, C. Boyne united in mar-
riage Gail Diane Sangster and
Allan Stuart Cleave.
The bride is the eldest daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. David Sang-
ster, Hensall, and the groom is
the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs.
Logan Cleave, Hayfield.
For the double-ring ceremony,
the bride chose a petal pink met-
allic brocade sheath with an A-
line coat of the same fabric and
white net accessories. The
bride's bouquet was an old-fash-
ioned nosegay of white carnations
and baby's breath,
Miss Nancy Kyle of Tillson-
burg and Hensall, gowned in navy
with =itching accessories, car-
rying a nosegay of pink carn-
ations, attended the bride.
Jack Cleave, Zurich, wan
groomsman for his brother.
Following the •ceremony a wed-
ding dinner was held at the Shil-
lelagh in Lucan.
A reception was held in the
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Laird
Mickle.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hyde
and family returned from a. ten
day vacation at Craigleith near
Collingwood.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Spencer
have returned from a pleasant
trip to Great Britain and Ireland.

they are both employed by Gen-
eral Coach.
Prior to her marriage Mrs.
Cleave was entertained by fellow

Mrs. Eugene O'Brien, sister
of the groom arranged a family
shower at her home in Zurich.
Miss Nancy Kyle arranged a
theatre party of old school friends
after which Gail was presented
with a gift.

held at Kippen.
The Zapfe Reunion was held
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Ray Consitt, Kippen, Sunday with
about 40 present.
After a delicious supper, a
short meeting was held when Hugh
Zapfe of London was elected
president; Mrs. Ray Consitt, sec-
retary; Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Arm-
, strong, Staffs, sports committee.
The 1969 Reunion will be held
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Bruce Armstrong, the second
Sunday in July.
