A surprise dinner was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ron- ald Denham on Sunday, the oc- casion being their 20th wedding anniversary. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Vance, Floyd, Jim and Shirley of Dexter' i mr. and Mrs. Murray Vance and fam - Hy; Mr. and Mrs. Keith Phillips of St. Thomas; Mr. and Mrs. Don Vance; Don Sterling of Ayl- mer; Mrs. Lavona McKellar, Kay and Joanne; Neil McKellar and friend; Miss Rovenia Saskie of Burlington; and Mrs. Anna Den- ham of St. Marys. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Short of Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, England, spent four days this past week with Mrs. Wm, J. Blackler. By MISS ELLA MORLOCK CREDITON Thursday evening the United. Church Women of Zion United Church held their last meeting of the season. Mrs.,Ervin Ratz, assisted by Mrs. Chris Dinney and Mrs. Ed Finkbeiner, was in charge of the program. New forms of ministry in the Christian Church of Japan were discussed. Mrs. Finkbeiner play- ed a number on the piano, and Mrs. 0, E. Wenzel presented the spiritual life topic, “Instant Missions". Mrs. Howard Zurbrigg and Mrs. Gordon Finkbeiner sang a duet. The film "Under the Red Pagoda" was shown. It is a film prepared by the Canadian Bible Society and portrays the* distribution of Bibles in Japan by members of the Society. During the business session $500 was voted to a special fund to pay for repairs needed at the manse. The invitation of the Zurich society to join with them and the ladies from Dash- wood in a fellowship meeting on July 16 was accepted. Hostesses were Mrs. Ray Mor- lock, Mrs. Hugo Schenk, Miss Clara Gaiser and Mrs. Leonard Wein. PICNIC Friday afternoon the Boys and Girls Fellowship of Zion United Church enjoyed a picnic on the church lawn. Forty-five mem- bers were present for fun and games, and a lunch of wieners, potato chips and ice cream bars. Rev, and Mrs. Howard Zur- brigg were assisted by Mrs. Lloyd Bender, Mrs. Wilmar Wein, Miss Judy Schenk and Miss Linda Haugh. ISI SPEAKER Guest speaker at Crediton United Church Sunday morning was Robert Finley, chairman of International Students Incorpor- ated. Mr. Finley has been on a speaking tour inCanada and plans to work extensively in this country in the future. The purpose of his organiz- ation is the introduction 'of stu- dents from other lands to the Christian message and to Christ- ian influence. Wide travel has made him familiar with several languages. He delighted the junior mem- bers of his audience by quoting Bible verses in Korean, Chinese and Japanese. CHILDREN'S DAY Sunday was Children's Day at Zion United Church with a joint service of church and Sunday School. Alf Smith, Sunday School sup- erintendent, chaired the pro- gram, The Junior Choir, under the direction of Rev. Howard Zur- brigg, sang several numbers. There were songs, recitations and exercises by members of the various departments and a piano solo by Mrs. Ed Fink- beiner representing the adult classes. PERSONALS The canvass for the Canadian Bible Society has been completed. A total of $140 was collected. Mrs. E. W. Farmer of Wood- stock is visiting her cousin, Mrs. Lorne Morlock. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kerstein of Toronto were Sunday guests of Albert Gaiser. Rev. and Mrs. Howard Zur- brigg, Miss Doris Schwartz, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fydenchuk and Miss Ella Morlock attended a performance of midsummer Ni,ght's Dream at Stratford last Mrs. Alf Smith, Mrs. Lorne Finkbeiner and Mrs. Lawrence Hill were at Ipperwash Friday with Mrs. Ruby Molitor. The ladies, who played bridge with Mrs. Molitor during her stay in Creditors presented her with a travelling bag. Monday evening Mrs. Molitor was in Crediton, a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Finkbeiner. The four friends spent the evening-playing bridge, of course.
