Church women busy at .Crediton

Drains once again took up most
of the time at Hay Township
council's Monday meeting.
petitions were received for two
municipal drains and both were
turned over to engineer C. P.
Corbett, Lucan.
One petition was from George
Grenier, Wes Rader and Adelbert
Smith of concession 11 and 12,
while the other was from Harold
Jones, Alex McMurtrie, Robert
McBride and William Petty for
the North Boundary and conces-
sion two.
A petition from Mrs. Antionette
Bourque was filed until a later
meeting.
Requests for three tile drain
loans were also received and the
clerk was authorized to applyfor
approval. Amount of the three
• loans totalled $9,000.

held Thursday evening, May 9.
The theme of the meeting, i4Jap-

developed by taking an imaginary
train trip from Tokyo to Osaka
under the guidance of Mrs. Ed.
Hendrick, Mrs. Clayton Sims and
Mrs. Lorne Morlock.
Mrs. G. E. Wenzel gave a talk
on spiritual life. There was a
piano solo by Miss Carol Hend-

ATTEND CONFERENCE
Saturday afternoon Gwen Fink-
beirier, Linda Haugh, Naomi Bo-
cock, D'Arcene McCart (Huron
park) and Mr. Walter Fydenchuk
attended the area conference of
the Society for the Mentally He-
larded held in the public school
auditorium at Chesley.
They were privileged to hear
an address by a doctor who fills
the roles of psychiatrist, psy-
chologist and pediatrician, Dr.
S. J. Kegler, superintendent of
the Centre for the Mentally Re-
tarded, Toronto. Dr. Kegler has
devoted his medical practice to
research on the causes of mental
retardation in children. By his
address, "How Come You're So
Smart" he held spellbound the
audience of about 250 high school

MOTHER'S DAY AT ZION UC
Mother's Day was marked in
Zion United Church by the past-,
or's sermon "Building a Christ-
ian Rome', and a solo by Mr.
Don Finkbeiner.
In the Sunday School there was
a program of songs and recita-
tions, and an address on ',Moth-
ering" by Miss Clare McGowan of
the Children's Aid Society, God-
erich. A gift and a red rose were
presented to Miss McGowan.
There was also a gift given to the
youngest mother present, Mrs.
Doug Dowson of Exeter.
BIBLE SOCIETY CANVASS
The annual canvass for the
Canadian Bible Society will be
conducted May 20 to May 31. Can-
vassers are Linda Haugh, Mrs.

Mr. Henry Pfaff suffered a
broken shoulder bone and rib in
a farm accident. He is recovering
at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Allen
Pfaff.
Last weekend Mr. & Mrs. W.
C. Outram of Lindsay visited
their aunt, Mrs. Will Oestricher
and Mr. Oestricher.

Snider Motors Ltd. for a Ford
tractor at a price of $2,997.22
and a mower at $556.59. It was
the lowest of six tenders received
for the new equipment.
The road superintendent was
asked to contact the department
of highways in regard to apply-
ing a sand cushion to one and
quarter miles on the 14th con-
cession north of Highway 84,
Tenders for the work are to be
received by June 1.
The clerk was asked to draw
up an agreement between the
township and Gordon Troyer re-
garding the apportioning of costs
of the open ditch to be con.:
structed at the upper end of
the Datars-Logan drain.
Set June 3 as the date for the
court of revision on the Fahn-
er drainage works after the en-
gineer's report was received
from Stephen, Only one Hay res-
