fants who are great grandchildren
of Mrs. Edna Corbett. Flowers
in the sanctuary were in mem-
ory of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Edgar Broderick placed by mem-
bers of the family.

torical Research meeting of Hen-
sa.11 WI Wednesday May 8. She
spoke on "International Human
Rights and Canadian Govern-
ment, and showed pictures of

UCW Unit Two met Monday
evening May 13 with Mrs. Vern
Alderdice in the chair. Mrs. Cecil
pepper gave, the devotional using
the theme, "Happy the home
where' God is there", assisted
by Mrs. James Drummond who
read a poem, "Home & Mothers",
to which Mrs. Alderdice replied
with a poem "A Tribute to Fath-
er".
Mrs. John Corbett in her study
"On Japan" told the story of a
Japanese woman, a 4th gener-
ation Christian, who was known
as Naomi., who through her ef-
forts Naomi homes have been
established for destitute moth-
ers and their children.
Mrs. Rodger Venner conduct-
ed the business. This unit will
be responsible for the nursery
and flowers for June. Plans were
made for the June General Meet-
ing when guest speaker will be
Robert Southcott of Exeter. Mrs.
Pepper reported for the friend-
ship and visitation committee,
Mrs. Ken McLean for finance.
Mrs. Alderdice gave courtesy
remarks. Contests were held and
Mrs. Drummond and her group
served lunch.
Mrs.,E. Ellis of Clinton visited
over the weekend with her son-
in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Lorne Chapman and Rod.
Mr. Lewis Clark returned to
his home last week from South
Huron Hospital, Exeter, where
he was a patient for the past
month.
Miss Lois Simmons, nurse-
in-training at Victoria Hospital,
London, spent the weekend with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Simmons.
Mr. and Mrs. Don MacLaren

demonstration. Old time dance

Edna Caldwell with accompanist
Mrs. Ross Broadfoot. Mrs. Wil-
bert Dilling gave courtesy re-
marks.

The Ladies Aid of Zion Luth-
eran Church held their annual
Mother and daughter banquet,
Friday, May 10, with group 4
and Mrs. Leonard Schenk, con-
vener, in charge.
All mothers were invited to
attend with a daughter or some-
one else's daughter. All sat doWn
to a pot luck supper.
Following supper Marjory
Schenk proposed a toast to the
mothers and Mrs. Irvin Rader,
replied. Special prizes were a-
warded to the oldest mother,
Mrs. Mary Martene; youngest
daughter, Susan Baynham; birth-
day nearest, Mrs. Alvin Rader.
President, Mrs. Lorne Gen-
ttner conducted a Short business
meeting prior to which musical
numbers were given by Eleanor
Salmon, Vicki and Dianne Miller,
Darlene Rader, Jayne and Janice
Hayter with Janet Miller ac-
companist. A donation was re-
ceived from Marian Howe for a
quilt the Aid quilted. Group 3
and 4 are in charge of a June
wedding. The Altar Guild is Mrs.

BROTHER DIES
Mr. Ed Stire received word
that his brother, Ernest George
Stire, 67, passed away at Fraser,
Michigan, Sunday, May 12, and the
funeral was held at Fraser, M tch.
Wednesday, May 15.
He was born and educated in
Dashwood and Exeter. Surviving
are two brothers, Ed of Dash-
wood, Fred of Oshawa; one sis-
ter, Mrs. Lilian Maddox of Wind-
sor.

been awarded a scholarship to
study for his Masters Degree on
International Relations with em-
phasis on China at Lehigh Uni-
versity, USA. He has been on the
staff of the Westdale Secondary
School in Hamilton for six years
teaching history and geography
and has been granted a leave of
absence to further his education.
