FRED BOWDEN CENTRALIA The United Church Congrega- tional meeting was held in the schoolroom of the church Sunday afternoon and was preceded by a smorgasbord luncheon. The pastor, Rev. R. V. Wilson presided for the business and the minutes were recorded by the secretary, Mrs. W. R. Essery. Reports of the various organiza- tions were read and approved. The church auditorium had been painted. Some redecorating was done and other improvements made in the manse. Robert Blair was appointed recording steward replacing Or- ville Langford who resigned. Cecil Skinner is representative to Presbytery. Auditors are Chas. Rollings and Clarence Mc- Dowell. WELLWOOD GILL GRAND BEND The February meeting of the ACW of St. John's-by-the-Lake Anglican Church, Grand Bend, was held at the residence of Mrs. Fred Newton. Mrs. Peter Warn- er, the president, chaired the meeting and many items of busi- ness were discussed. Two Euchres will be held be- fore Ash Wednesday, the begin- ning of Lent. A money-raising project which will include the enlarged summer congregation will be undertaken in March. Another intramural venture is scheduled for April. On May 18 a "Cottage-opener" bake and food sale will be held. Repres- entatives to the World Day of Prayer at Calvary United Church Dashwood were named. The ACW will contribute new altar linens and other items af- filiated with the celebration of Holy Communion. The hostess served refreshments. TO ATTEND WORLD DAY OF PRAYER The Grand Bend UCW held their General meeting Tuesday evening with thirty-five ladies present. Mrs. Allan Parker and Mrs. Wellington Baker conducted the opening worship and program. Mrs. Wm Sturdevant, president, conducted the business. The World Day of Prayer was dis- cussed and every member was urged to attend on March 1 at 2:30 pm in Calvary United Church at Dashwood. A committee was named to plan for the annual White Cross luncheon on Good Friday. Plans were also made for the 6th annual meeting of the United Church Women of Huron Pres- byterial. Several ladies attended this meeting also the inaugural service of Huron-Perth Presby- terial United Church Women. Lunch was served by Group 2. NEED NYLONS The Afternoon Unit of Grand Bend UCW met Thursday. Mrs. Harold Walper conducted the opening worship. Mrs. Wellwood Gill gave the study book chapter. Mrs. Alex Hamilton, leader, presided for the business. She announced the need for nylons and stamps were also brought in. The ladies will also make a lay- ette. Other projects were dis- cussed and will be brought to the executive. An invitation was read to attend the CGIT “Japanese Tea" on February 24 in the afternoon. Lunch was served by Mrs. Elgin Webb and Mrs. Well- ington Baker. PERSONALS Mr. Tom Parker is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. Mr. Milton Pollock returned home from St. Joseph's Hos- pital, London, Friday evening, after being a patient there for the last six weeks. Miss Elda Brown of London spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Brown and family. Mrs. Stuart Bullock had a quilting at her home last Wed- nesday for the East Group of the UCW. This week the ladies are quilting at the home of Mrs. Fred Steeper in Parkhill. The Berean Bible Class of the United Church will hold their meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elton Curts Friday evening at 8:30 pm. Thursday evening at 8 pm members of the United Church are going on a tour of the Water Resources Plant at Port Blake.
