The Panthers and Seals re-
main tied for top spot in pee
wee house league hockey with
14 points apiece. In a very ex-
citing game these two teams
battled to a 3-3 tie in Satur-
day's first game.
The lead changed several times
but when the game was over
neither team had gained a vic-
tory. Goal scorers for the Seals
were Paul Robinson, Doug Fair-
bairn and Ricky Stagg with one
each. Bob Willis scored twice
and Les Murley added a single
to complete the Panther total.
In the second game, the Pen-
guins played their best game of
the season in defeating the Wings
8-2. The Penguins have showed
great improvement of late having
won their last six contests and are
only one point out of first place.
Steve Harrison and Henry Mar-
tens each scored twice to lead
the Penguin attack while singles
were added by Doug penhale, Pat
Hogan, Terry Janke and Gerald
Van Oesh. Taking care of the
scoring for the losers were
Bryan Tuckey and Peter Wuerth
with single goals each.
Robert Guenther scored two
big goals to lead the Rangers
to a 2-0 decision over Boston
In novice hockey.
Big scores seemed to be the
order of the day with Boston
downing Chicago 10-4 in ban-
tam hockey. These teams were
tied in the standings with 11
points each and all games have
been quite close. Top scorer
for Boston was John Krampp
with four goals followed by
Pete Glover with two while Larry
Bourne, Pete Mason, Tim Stover
and Robert Dale added one each.
Scott Litt played a strong game
for Chicago as he scored twice
with Steve Wuerth and Dennis
Ferguson adding single tallies.

Lady curlers hold bonspiel
The Crediton Tigers moved
to undisputed P9sSeSsien of first
place in the Exeter antl_distrint.
Rep hockey league Thursday night
as they edged the Bank Boys 4-2.
The two clubs had been dead-
locked for the top position,
In the other half of the weekly
twin bill, Graham and Graham
came up with their second win of
the season outscoring the Old
Timers 8-6 and moved into third.
Pine. The Old Timers have only
one win to their credit in play
so far this season in the play-
for-fun loop.
In the goal scoring department,
Bob Jones of the Bank Boys is
away out in front with 27 goals.
In second spot is Fred Wells of
the Old Timers with 15 to his
credit while team-mate Ron Bo-
gart has 13 and. Fred Lamb of
Crediton and Pete McFalls of
the Bankers each have a dozen
goals.
Tonight's weekly action has
Graham and Graham and C rediton
meeting in the opener at eight
o'clock and the Old Timers tang-
ling with the Bank Boys in the
nightcap.
LAMB LEADS
Crediton's top scoring ace,
Fred Lamb, personally took care
of the Bankers in Thursday's
game as he scored three times
in his club's 4-2 win. Playing
coach Bob Galloway notched the
fourth Crediton counter.
Scoring in single fashion for
the losers were Jim Russell and
Frank Boyle.
Otto Smale scored his first hat
trick of the year to lead Graham
and Graham to their 8-6 win over
the Old Timers. Gord Strang
checked in with a Pair of geals
while singles were added by Doug
McBride, Ed, Kerslake and Tom
Watt.
Leading the scoring attack for
the "veterans" were Fred Wells
and Casey Plomp each scoring
on two separate occasions. Bob
13aynharn and Ron Bogart were
on the firing end of the balance
of the goals for the losers.
Wrestlers lose
in two attempts
The wrestling team at South
Huron District High School was
in action on two occasions over
the past week in regular Huron-
Perth conference meets.
The locals took on Goderich in
a home and home series and were
on the short end of the score
both times. In Goderich Thurs-
day, the lakeport boys were the
winners by a 41-20 count and at
the South Huron gym Tuesday the
score was a bit closer, 38-28.
Two members of Ron Bogart's
grunt and groan squad continue
to stay unbeaten in four bouts to
date this season. Bill Cameron,
the smallest of the South Huron
competitors, wrestling in the 8'7
pound class won both of his latest
outings by falls. George Keller,
campaigning at 120 pounds kept
his victory string intact by knock-
ing off his Goderich opponent
twice.
Jim Hayter of SH also hung up
two victories while single wins
were accomplished by Norm Neil -
ands, Fred Simmons and J m
Hoffman.

4 - 5 - Boston vs Chicago
The junior Hawks are having
a bit of trouble getting some of
their scheduled games com-
pleted. Last week's game with
Point Edward was postponed at
the last minute when the visi-
tors could not ice a club.
Over the week-end, a flash
fire in the furnace room of the
Blenheim arena destroyed most
of the equipment of the Blenheim
junior team. As a result the Blen-
heim club will not be fulfilling
their engagement with the Hawks
at the arena Friday night.Instead
an exhibition game has been lined
up with, the Hawks taking on the
Crediton Tigers of the WOAA
"D" grouping.
The Crediton club is undefeated
in district play this year and with
a couple of members of last
year's junior Hawks in the lineup
a real grudge match can be ex-
pected.
The Exeter Minor Hockey As-
sociation will hold their big Minor
Hockey Day on Saturday, Feb-
ruary 10 with a complete hockey
program starting at eight o'clock
in the morning. The regular house
league action will be on tap
along with exhibition games for
all the minor all star teams
winding up with a junior game
at 8:30.
The figure skating carnival is
scheduled for Saturday, February
24. 'rry and attend these two big
events.
Cage crews
on loss streak
It was a very dienial week Por.
the basketball clubs at South
Huron District High SchOpl. .as.
they failed to come up with. a
single win in Huron,,,perth „con-
ference .
The previously unbeaten senior
girls lost a squeaker ,23,20 to
Goderich at the lePe,i school gym.
Thursday and were again on the
short end of an 18-15 count
against Stratford Central again on
their home floor Tuesday.
The junior gals suffered the
same fate as they were cutspor,
ed la by .Goderich and were
on the wrong side of a score
that looked more like a baseball.
game, 10-5 against Stratford.
The boys' teams didn't fare
any better as they each lost their
only start against Goderich in the
lakeport town, Thersclay. The lo-
cal seniors were thumped by God-
erich 63.42 while the juniors took
it on the chin by a 33-23 count.
Both South Huron boys' teams
travel to Stratford to take on
Central in a Friday doublehead,
er while the girls' clubs play host
to St. Marys and Seaforth at the
South Huron gym in an all-day
round-robin series on Saturday.
FADE IN THIRD
The senior Panthers under the
direction of Bruce Shaw stayed
close to their Goderich opposition
for the first half as they were
only behind 24-19 at the inter-
mission.
The hometown Vikings broke
loose with a 21 point barrage in
the third quarter as the Panthers
could garner a measly nine
points.
Scott Burton was the top point
producer for South Huron as he
collected a total of 12 points.
Ross Huff was close behind with
five field goals and a free toss
to his credit for 11 points, two
more than the total contributed
by Bud Desjardine. Completing
the scoring with respective point
totals of six and four were Bill
Farquhar and Uilke Nagel.
Bob Rowe was far and away
the best point getter for Lyle
Little's junior Panthers as they
succumbed to Goderich 33-23.
Rowe accumulated a total of 1'7
points to lead the attack for,
his club. Larry Haugh and Ihor
Orenchuk notched three points
apiece to wind up the local scor-
ing.

had elapsed in the second ses-
sion to up the Crediton deficit to
two goals.
At 10:40 of the second, Lamb
found the scoring mark for the
second time on a play started
by defenceman Paul Cronyn. Less
than two minutes later the clubs
were back on even terms as Glen
Overholt tipped in a shot from
the point by Gord Vincent.
Play ranged back and forth in
the early moments of the third
period with both clubs coming
close to getting the go-ahead
marker. It was eventually scor-
ed at 11:42 with Pat McKeever
pulling the trigger with the as-
sists going to Roy Smith and Fred
Lamb.
In the 10-8 win over Zurich
Friday night, Fred Lamb was at
his scoring best as he found the
mark no less than four occasions.
The game was a see-saw affair
most of the way. The score was
tied at 4-4 after the first period
of play, Crediton moved into an
8-6 lead alter the second and
maintained that same margin to
the finish.
Glenn Overholt and D e nnis
Morrissey each contributed two
goals to the Crediton cause while
singles were added by Jim Mor-
rissey and Doug McBride.
