Yorkton, the last living member
of Lucan's Famous 1902 Irish
Nine ball teagi.

London, Friday evening (Dec. 22)
given by Mr. Donald Kipp, Lon-
don, Supervisor for State Farm.
Wed., Dec. 27, Mrs. John Mar-
shall entertained 20 of her rela-
tives and friends at a dinner
party.
Mr. & Mrs. Colin Hardy and
Clare of England are spending
the holiday season with Lucan
relatives. Mr. Hardy is on the
teacher's exchange and is teach-
ing this year in Indiana.

at Biddulph concert
Once again the Biddulph Cen-
tral Lucan School held its two-
night annual Christmas concerts,
Dec. 19 and 20, Admission was
by advance sale of 275 tickets,
for each night. However on Wed.
night there were so many dis-
appointed parents, that "stand-
ing room admission", was given
to a number of people. The pro-
gram itself was the same both
nights but in many cases the cast
was different, to enable more
children to take part. Tuesday
night most of those taking part
were from Luca.n and on Wed,
from the Township.
The first part of the program
was put on by the Jr. choir,
and by Grades, Kindergarten to

anniversary
In honor of their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Wilbert Stanley of Con-
cession 16 London Township, the
family held Open House last Wed-
nesday evening for 65 of their
relatives and friends.
Being Mr. and Mrs. Stanley's
45th wedding anniversary, the
house and tea table were in a
setting of sapphire blue. The
white linen covered tea table
was centred with an arrangement
of pink and white carnations and
mums and spiked with blue cand-
les with matching blue ser-
viettes. Four of the couples'
grandchildren, Marie and Ann
Towers and Julie and Mary
Adams, did the serving.
In spite of a "No Gifts Please"
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley received
a number of beautiful gifts.
On Dec. 27, 1922 Mr. and
Mrs. Stanley were married at
the bride's home, by the Rev.
Arthur Kellam of Thorndale. The
bride, the former Jennie Fitz-
gerald, is the daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Fitz-
gerald, then of Thorndale, and
the groom is the son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Stanley.
The couple have two sons and
four daughters, George of Bay-
field, John of Calgary, Shirley
(Mrs. Verne Towers) of Glen-
coe, Jean (Mrs. Andrew Elder)
of Toronto, Mina (Mrs. George
Adams) Birr and Joan (Mrs.
Peter Wiseman) Toronto, also
14 grandchildren.
Mr. Stanley has sold his farm
to Mr. Lloyd Nichols of London
and has purchased a new home
at 576 Regent St., London.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Stanley
have been very active members
of the Ltian United Church and
will be greatly missed in the
community, where Mr. Stanley
has held many positions, which
includes a councillor of London
Township, provincial president
of the Ontario Trustees and Rate-
payers Association, secret ar y
fieldman Of the Middlesex Feder-
ation of Agriculture, representa-
tive of the National Film Board
for Western Ontario and presid-
ent of the Middlesex Lay As-
sociation,

ing Was held Dec. 11 at the home

program was the Operetta,
"Cherrie of Cherokee Lane,"
with Julie Hardy taking the lead-
ing part Tuesday night and Sherri
Davis the leading part on Wed-
nesday night.
The program closed with three
numbers by Mrs. Hardy's Sr.
Choir, Their numbers alone were
worth the price of admission.

Following low calorie refresh-
ments there was an exchange of
gifts.
Family event
well attended
Family Night dinner was held
in the Anglican Church basement,
when an attendance of 62 sat down
to dinner. Members, who had no
family had been told to beg,
borrow, or steal a child. As
Santa Claus had another engage-
ment that night he sent a substi-
tute, Mr. Mert Culbert. The
children were all given a candy
treat but as Christmas is a "giv-
ing" time, each child presented
a toy to Santa, to help fill the
Christmas hampers. All t h e
ladies present, were presented
with a corsage.

The Monday before Christmas
Mrs. J, W. Smith of Beech St.
entertained a number of her
friends with an afternoon tea,
Mrs, Smith welcomed her
guests and ushered them into
her new living-room, where
Mrs. Ron Crozier poured tea
at a maderia covered tea table
centred with Christmas candles.
The highlight of the afternoon
was the arrival of Santa Claus
who greeted all the guests with
a big kiss and presented each
with a candy cane.
Before leaving all were asked
to make a wish, before clipping a
candy from the wishing wheel.
Area people
in accidents
While driving his horse and
cart on Dec. 19 Mr. Billy Bant-
ing of William St. was seriously
injured by a “hit and run" auto
driver. He is still in intensive
care, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
His cart was demolished.
Mrs. U. F. Stanley, while visit-
ing her daughter in Windsor, fell
and broke her hip. She is now in
St. Josephs Hospital.
Mrs. T. C. McFarlane fell out-
side and also inside the McCor-
mich Home. Though x-rays show
no broken bones she is confined
to her room.
December 13 was unlucky for
Mr. Joe Benn, who fell while put-
ting up Christmas lights outside
his house. He broke a bone in his
left leg but with the aid of crutch-
es is able to walk around the
house.
NEW ELECTRIC SIGN
Mr. Larry Ditty, owner of the
new "Lucan Electronics" store,
has had erected outside his store
a large $300 colored electric
sign.
Mr. Ditty reports that business
has been good during the Christ-
mas season.
Restaurant and toured Winter
Wonderland.
One of the largest Christmas
family gatherings was that of the
Hardy family when 50 of them
dined at the Community Centre
One of the high-lights of the
afternoon was the showing of
movies of previous gatherings.
Dr. and Mrs. C. Bruce Cante-
Ion and families were New Year's
guests of Mr. & Mrs. J. H. Cante-
Ion, Main St. South.
Bruce Mills of Biddulph Cen-
tral School received honorable
mention for his poster entered in
the competition sponsored by the
London-Middlesex Cancer Unit.
A number of pupils of both St.
Patrick's Separate and Biddulph
Central Schools competed.

After a lengthy illness Mr. John
Affleck 76, of Alice St. Lucan,
passed away suddenly on Christ-
mas Day.
Son of the late Mr. & Mrs.
John William Affleck, Mr. Affleck
was born in England. He came
to Canada 55 years ago and he
worked in the CNR shops in Strat-

vived by one daughter Gladys.

Falls, Gordon Hall of Vancouver
and one sister, Mrs. Gladys pring

Funeral services were con-
ducted by Rev. E. Q. Lancaster
of the Anglican Church at 10;30
a.m. Wednesday, December 27 at
the Murdy funeral home, Lucan
with interment in Woodland
cemetery, London.
Pallbearers included Messrs
Earl Mathers, William Frost,
Cliff Shipley, A. L. Kernick, Jack
McIntosh, Gerry Hillis.
MRS. PERCY SIMPSON
After a lengthy illness. Mrs.
Percy Simpson, passed away at
Strathmere Lodge, Strathroy,
Wed. Dec. 27.
The body rested in the Murdy
Funeral Home, Lucan until 2 pm
Friday, Dec. 29, when the Rev.
E. 0. Lancaster of the Lucan
Anglican Church, conducted fu-
neral services. Interment was in
Carlisle Cemetery. Pallbearers
were Messrs Jim Cook, Wilfred
Huxtable, Murray Neil, Ken Mit-
chell, Murray Collins and Bert
Cocksworth.
Mrs. Simpson is survived by
one son, Kenneth Simpson of
Ailsa Craig.

FREDERICK WM. YOUNG
Frederick William Young 65,
passed away suddenly Sunday,
Dec. 24, at his home, Lot 21,
Concession 4, Biddulph.
Son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Frederick William Young, Mr.
Young was born in Caledonia.
For 45 years he was supervisor
of CNR bridge building, retiring
this year,
Mr. Young lived in a number
of places among which were Lis-
towel, Palmerston, Lucan and
London.
Besides his wife, the former
Jean Thompson, Mr. Young is
survived by five sons and five
daughters, James of Byron, Fred
Jr. of Lucan, Robert of RR 1
Thorndale, John of RR 2 Ilder-
ton, Ken of Lucan, Freda (Mrs.
Jake Van Arenthals) of RR 1
Lucan, Marie (Mrs. Arthur Cain)
Miss Yvonne Young, Patricia
(Mrs. Jack Benda) all of London,
and Gertrude (Mrs. Glen Ken-
nedy) of Lucan, also 25 grand-
children and three brothers of
Caledonia, Hume, Delbert and
Hilliard Young.
Funeral services were con-

Alexander Hodgins 81, passed
away at Marian Villa, London,
on Thursday, Dec. 21, after a
lengthy illness.
Son of the late Mr. & Mrs,
Joseph HOdgins, he was born
CM a farm in Biddulph Township.
Be lived in Lucan and Strathroy
during the years his father ran a
livery stable. In 1919 he and his
brother opened a hardware store
in Lucan and also bought the
Central Hotel in 1924.
After selling the hotel in 1929
he went farming on Concession
2 Biddulph. After his wife's death
in 1940, he retired and came to
Lucan making his home on Frank
St. with his mother and sister, in
the house now occupied by Mr.
& Mrs. Gordon Atkinson.
Mr. Hodgins is survived by one
brother, Harold, of Lucan and one
Pieter, Jean (Mrs. Arnold AO?.
of London, His wife, the
former May McHann predeceased
him in 1940.

Mr. Les Langs, who for a
number of years was an employee
of the Lucan branch of the Bank
of Montreal, died after a lengthy
illness at Markdale, Friday, Dec.
28.
Funeral services were held at
the Oliver Funeral Home, Mark-
dale, Sunday Dec. 31,
He is survived by his wife
Florence, and one m arried
daughter, Susan.
Mr. Langs, while in Lucan was
keenly interested in sports, and
for a number of years was sec-
retary-treasurer of the Lunen
Irish Six Hockey team.
