was $7,535.46. Expenditures
lowered these considerably.
A lenghty discussion followed
regarding the cost of the highway
widening process, which has ac-
counted for great expenses to the
P.U.C.. The manager was in-
structed to present the bill for
labour to the Department of High-
ways of which the Commission
is to receive 50% of the costs of
labour.
The manager expressed con-
cern over outstanding accounts
in the Water department.
Also a qualified engineer has
been contacted to review condi-
tions and functions of the local
water supply, that is, the pumping
system. The commission has
been concerned for some time re-
garding the age of the present
pumping system and have asked
for guidance before any steps
are taken to replace any of the
system.
The manager was asked to
contact the engineer again for
an early report on the system.
Correspondence was read from
the Department of Trade and
Commerce and from Cook Bros.
Ltd..
The list of arrears was re-
viewed and found to be for Hydro
$664.55 and for Water Depart-
ment $260.47. The manager was
instructed to follow usual pro-
ceedings in this regard.
Bills and accounts were as
follows: hydro, $2,435.46; water,
$1,652.29. These ordered paid on
motion made by Armstrong, sec-
onded by Fuss.
The chairman thanked Mr.
Armstrong on behalf of the P.U.C.
for his years of service to the
community and wished him well
for the future. Mr. Armstrong
gave a fitting reply and stated
that he felt he should retire
from public life and allow young-
er people to take his place.
The meeting adjourned on mo-
tion by Armstrong and Fuss. The
Public Utilities will meet again
on January 24, at 7.30 p.m,
