Christmas theme
for WI's meeting
The December meeting of the
Lucan WI was held at the home
of Mrs. Ron Crozier with a. splen-
did attendance of members and
visitors. The motto was "God
gave to each ingredients for hap-
piness the mixture is up to us."
Members answered the roll
call with "A memory of my first
Christmas concert", which prov-
ed most amusing, but was climax-
ed when the president reappeared
In the room dressed as a little
girl with a big red hair bow
and gave a reading entitled, "The
Parsores Old Black Sheep",
Which she gave at a school con-
cert at the age of six years.
Each member brought in a
gift for Thameswood Lodge. Mrs.
Eldon Hodgson and mrs. Ira Carl-
ing read poems,
Mrs. Frances Saward, as Lu-
can's representative to the Mid-
dlesex Safety Council, displayed
a Fire Poster and also reported
on recent accidents to people in
the Lucan district.
Mrs. Frank Jolliffe, Mrs. Har-
old Corbett and Mrs. Wes Atkin-
son, as program committee, pre-
sented two Christmas stories and
Antique store
has new tenants
Since purchasing the antique
shop and dwelling of Mr. and
Mrs. Denny Mansell on the corn-
er of Main and Water Sts,, Mr.
and Mrs. Ian Wallace have been
too busy installing a furnace,
building a garage and making
repairs, to open up their Antique
Shop until now.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace and their
14-year-old daughter, Megan,
moved to Lucan from London.
Mr. Wallace will continue as an
employee of Cockfield and Brown
Advertising Agency, London and
Mrs. Wallace will be in charge
of the Antique Store, but will be
assisted by Mr. Wallace.

Harold Hodgins read the touching
story entitled, "Why the Chimes
Rang" finishing with the poem
"The Nicest Gift" and Miss Lina
Abbott conducted the contest,
"Christmas Festival".

refreshments.

Mrs. Helen Chown and Mrs.
Nyle Capeling of Sarnia, were
Saturday guests of Miss Reta
Chown.
Nine-year-old Peggy Veno,
who has been living with Mr. &
Mrs.James Avery, was rushed
to St. Joseph's Hospital last
Thursday at 5 am.
Mr. & Mrs. Stan Kayes of Tor-
onto were Sunday guests of Mr.
& Mrs. Clarence Hardy.
Mr. Silas McFalls and sister
Miss Lela McFalls of Grand
Bend were Thursday guests of
Mrs. Eldon Hodgson.
Mr. & Mrs. Charlie Martin
formerly of Winnipeg, are holi-
daying with Mr. Martin's sister,
Mrs. T. A, Hodgins and other
relatives.

Mrs. John Knight of Kintore
spent Sunday with her mother,
Mrs. Frank Hardy.
Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Abbott were
Sunday guests of Mr. & Mrs.
Art Abbott and family and found
their son much improved since
his recent operation.
Local farmers took advantage
of the last few fine days to har-
vest more of their corn.
Mrs. Sheridan Revington Spent
last Friday with her mother, Mrs.
Harry McFalls of London.
Completes course
R. D. Beck, Lucan, returned re-
cently from Decatur, Indiana,
where he graduated from the
three-week course at the Reppert
School of Auctioneering. This
school teaches every phase of
the auction work. The local man
graduated with honors.
Ladies Guild

At the December meeting of
the Ladles Guild of Holy Trinity
Church last Wednesday after-
noon, Mrs. Gordon Atkinson pre-
sented the slate of officers.

dents, Mrs. Joe O'Neil, Mrs.
Harvey Hodgins; secretary, Mrs.

Miss Lina Abbott assisted in
the worship service. She also
read a letter from the niece
of Miss Ida Porte, 96, of Rich-
mond Hill saying she is now
confined to her bed. Miss Porte
was a former post-mistress of
Lucan and Guild member.
Refreshments were served.
PRESENTATION AND DANCE
Last Friday evening the friends
of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Hayter
(nee Linda Wells of Exeter) met
in the Lucan Community Centre
to extend congratulations and to
offer best wishes for a happy
married life.
The evening was spdnt danc-
ing to the music of Doug Lewis
and his Town Liners, followed
by a presentation to the "bride
and groom" by Larry Lewis.
EXPLORERS' MEETING
Last Monday evening 23 Lucan-
Clandeboye Explorers and four
counsellors met in the United
Church schoolroom. Each girl
made Santa Claus place-cards.
for each member of her family.
Postage stamps were trimmed
and made ready for the Bible
Society.
The worship service was taken
by Julie Noyes and Nancy Lewis.

PENTECOSTAL.
The Pentecostal WA met at the
home of Mrs. George Eizenga
last Monday when President Mrs.
Howard Currie presided and was
assisted by Mrs. Elzenga. She
conducted a Christmas quiz and
gave a reading,
A study of Mary, the mother of
Jesus, was held, Mrs. Ed. Butler
accompanied Joyce Butler's solo,
on her flute.
Another quilt was started.
CHRISTMAS CONCERT
The annual Christmas concert
was held Saturday evening with
the following teachers putting on
choruses, solos, recitations and
skits. Mrs. George Eizenga's
(Cradle Roll), Mrs. Rufas Thomp-
son, Mrs. Gordon McDonald, Mrs.
Ernie Ferguson, Mrs. Ed. Butler
and Mr. Ed. Butler.
Mrs. J. A. Graham's Bible
Class gave a number and Joyce
Butler entertained with her clari-
net.
A large Christmas tree had
gifts for all the children, also
fruit and candy.
During the evening Mr. Ed.
Butler, on behalf of the congre-
gation, presented the pastor with
a gift of money. Rev. and Mrs.
McDonald and family will spend
the Christmas season with their
parents in North and South Caro-
Una. Mr. George Eizenga and
Mr. John Boaz will be in charge
of Sunday services.
UNITED
COUPLES' CLUB
The Couples' Club began their
Christmas meeting with a 7 pm
potluck supper. There were 18
couples present.
The worship service was taken
by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Patter-
son and Mrs. Don Lankin read a
Christmas story.
Mr. Fred Suter presided for the
business. A report was made of
the recent successful dance, the
proceeds of which will go to the
building fund. A discussion was
held on the purchasing of dividing
doors for the Sunday School.
Messrs Don Maguire, W i l liam
Froats, Ernest Ross, Alden Walk-
er and Ed. Melanson were named
a committee to bring in a report
on prices.
Mr. Ed. Melanson, as Santa
Claus for the exchange of gifts,
read the humorous original vers-
es which accompanied each gift,
but the poet's names remained
a deep dark secret.

leaders of the Elimville-Thames
Road CGIT presented the 1967
National CGIT Vesper Service
Sunday evening in Thames Road
church.
Joanne Hodgert led the service
of worship and Margaret Hunkin
read the scripture.
Janet Hern, Beverley Pass-
more, Cheryl Hern, Linda Knight
and Joan Lynn participated in
the conversational drama.
The part r of Mary and Joseph
was dramatized by Ava Elford
and Anne Herdman. The choir
of girls rendered three anthems.

VESPER SERVICE
The large group of parents
and friends who attended the an-
nual CGIT Vesper Service Sun-
day night could not help but be
struck with the splendid groups
of Lucan-Clandeboye CGIT, Ex-
plorers and Hi C who attended
the service.
Of a 41 CGIT enrolment 33 were
able to take part in the service.
Their leader is Mrs. Murray
Hodgins,
Taking special parts last Sun-
day, were Helen Lewis, candle-
lighter, Janis Freeman, leader,
Betty Park, reader, Grace Smith,
Carol Haskett, Brenda Herbert,
Julie Henderson andJane Hodg-
son, conversationists.
Janyce Grose was Mary and
Nancy Young was Joseph. Joan
and Helen Lewis, Kim English
and Janet Smith took up the offer-
ing and Marline Butler was solo-
ist. Due to the illness of Rev.
G, W. Sach, Bert Walker of the
Hi C took his part,
Miss Reta Chown assisted as
organist and Mrs. G. W. Sach
as pianist.
ANGLICAN
The annual Sunday School party
was held Sunday afternoon with
the smaller children in the Par-
ish Hall and the senior children
down stairs, Santa Claus failed to
appear but there was a Christ-
mas tree and gifts and treats
for all, following the games.
There will be a Christmas
eve service at 11:15 pm and a
quiet communion service at gam
Christmas Day, Next Sunday
there will be a carol service at
11 am when it Is hoped the re-
built organ will be ready for
use again.
