EVENING ACW MEETING
At a meeting held at the home
of Mrs. J. W. Smith, last Wed-
nesday evening the Mission Group
of the Evening Branch of the
Anglican Church Women elected

COUPLES CLUB DANCE
The C oupl e s/ Club Annual
Dance to raise church funds, was
held in the Lucan Community
Centre Friday night, with good
attendance. The Lucan-Clande-
boye HiC had charge of checking
and sale of pop. Members also
assisted in serving lunch.

Board fetes
school staff
Friday evening, the Bidduiph
Central school board, sponsored
its annual turkey dinner, at the
school, with the Guild of St.
James Church, Clandeboye, do-
ing the catering.
The 52 present, included the
board, the staff, caretakers, min-
isters, and their wives.
Mrs. Harold Cobleigh of the
Lucan school, as Santa Claus,
made a real hit as she and her
assistant, Mrs. Joyce Halliday
presented boxes of chocolates
to the members of the board and
caretakers, from the staff.
Following the dinner and in-
troduction of board, staff and
caretaker, an evening of euchre
was enjoyed. High score prizes
went to Mrs. Russell Goddard,
and Mr. Bob Garrett; lone hand
prizes to Mrs. Cliff Abbott, and
Mr. Ron Alderton; and low score
prizes to Mrs. Joyce Halliday
and Mr. Bev Hughes.

Clerk Austin Hodgins reports
the most important business at
the December meeting of the
Biddulph Council at Lucan last
Tuesday afternoon was the re-
ceipt of a letter from the council
engineer, Boyd Arnold of Lon-
don, in reply to a complaint
from the Biddulph council that
during the construction of the
county road from Lucan to the
Bidduiph school, loads of gravel
had damaged the Centre sideroad.
The letter stated, that in future
the county will grade, gravel and
calcium any road damage, by
construction operations.
The council issued two permits
to Douglas Thompson, Lot 22,
concession 2 for a pole barn,
and to Joe Zubal, Lot 9. con-
cession 3 for an implement shed.
The inaugural meeting will be
held at 11 am, January 3 instead
of January 8.
CHRISTMAS TREES
Mr. D. A. Ashworth is again
selling Christmas trees, with
the net proceeds to go to the
church.

for the December meeting of the
mission group of the Lucan Ang-
lican Church Women and named
Mrs. Jack Murdy president for
1968.
Other officers included: Past
president, Mrs. P. O. King; vice
president, Mrs. Harvey Hodgins;
secretary, Mrs. Earl Atkinson;
treasurer, Mrs. Charles Beggar;
prayer partner correspondent,
Mrs. E. 0. Lancaster.
Conveners are: education,
Mrs. Frank Hardy; social ser-
vice, Mrs. Harold Corbett and
Mrs. Earl Atkinson; family life,
Mrs. Jack Murdy; Living Mes-
sage, Mrs. Wilson Hodgins; Dor-
cas, Mrs. Hilton Roberts; re-
porter, Miss Line Abbott.
In the absence of the presid-
ent, Mrs. P. 0. King, Mrs. Jack
Murdy presided and Mrs. George
Hodgins was acting secretary,
in the absence of Mrs. Erwin
Scott. Five dollars was voted to
the Mohawk Institute, five dollars
to the prayer partner, five dol-
lars to the Evening Branch and
$10 to the Undesignated Fund.

standing address, given by Mrs.

general meeting of the Anglican
Church Women of the Diocese of
Huron, in St, George's Church,
Goderich, on October 4, 1967.
Mrs, T. A. Hodgins read the
"Story of a Christmas Guest"

Prayer for Christmas".

to help 'needy' baby
Hold rites for
Robert Carson
Robert Alvin Carson 86, form-
erly of Granton, passed away in
the Handley Nursing Home, Kin-
tore, on Sunday, December 10,
The body rested in the C. Haskett
& Son Funeral Home, Lucan, until
Tuesday, Dec, 12, when the Rev.
S, J, Bell of St. Thomas Anglican
Church, Granton, conducted fu-
neral services. Interment was
in Carlisle Cemetery. Pallbear-
ers included Messrs Lloyd Mard-
lin, George Leslie, Fred Crouch,
Charles Gowan, Ken Hardie, and
Harold Hodgson.
He is survived by his wife, the
Henrietta Lerner, four daughters,
Margaret (Mrs. Glenn MacGeo-
rge), Wyandotte, Mich., Joyce
(Mrs, Alex McDonald), St. Marys,
Betty (Mrs. Arnold Hudson) Bry-
anston, Gertrude (Mrs. Wesley
McGuffin) Devizes, six grand-
children and two great grand-
children, also one sister Mrs,
Sarah Carson of London and three
brothers, Ernest of Australia,
John of Ailsa Craig and Frank of
London.
Son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
John Carson, Mr. Carson was
born in Lobo Township and was
a mall courier at Granton,

well attended
The Lucan Lions Club mem-
bers held their annual turkey
bingo in the Legion Hall last
Wednesday evening with a good
attendance, The most lucky
player of the evening was Mrs.
Earl Greenlee who won a turkey
and two chickens.
Other turkey winners were
Mrs, Bill Heck, Mr. Lawrence
Hirtzel, Miss Margaret Kelly,
Janet Nagle, Mrs. Wm McFalls,
Mrs. Harold Butler, Kathy Cun-
ningham, Mrs. Allan Blane, Mrs.
Charles Windsor and Mrs.
Thelma Carty.
Other chicken winners were
Mrs. Roy Hancox, Mrs. Arthur
Hodgins, Mr. Blake Beck, Mrs.
Cecil Neil, Mr. Jim Donaldson,
Mrs. Will Mcllhargey, Mrs. Basil
Nagle and Mr. Elmer Mosurin-
john.
Mrs. Doug Ewen won the $18
"Share the Wealth" and Mrs.
Wallie Boyes the $19 "Share the
Wealth".
The draw for the big turkey
was won by Mrs. H. Ogbourne
of London.

At the Medway Euchre held
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Wilbert Stanley, high score
prizes went to Mrs. Cliff Mc-
Roberts and Mr. Clarence Lewis,
lone hand prizes to Mrs. Carmen
Hodgins and Mr. Austin Hobbs,
and low score prizes to Mrs.
Earl Middleton and Mr. Carmen

Students given
safety lessons
It took four days for Constable
Fred Suter of the Lucan OPP to
give a Safety Talk and demon-
stration to the pupils at the Bid-
dulph Central and Lucan school.
At the Bidduiph Central, child-
ren saw the demonstration in the
auditorium, Nov. 27, 29 and Dec.
4, while the Lucan children saw
the demonstration in the kinder-
garten Nov. 28.
The purpose of the demonstra-
tion was to teach the children
safety rules, and what to do in
case of an emergency.

met in Holy Trinity Parish Hall
on Monday night, December
Table Favor gifts were made
for the patients of Thameswood
Lodge, London.
It was reported that the five
gifts for the Mental Health pat-
ients had been purchased and
delivered, and the members voted
to provide two dozen diapers for
a new baby in a needy family.
The date for carol singing to
shut-ins and dress rehearsal of
the Vesper Service was set for
7 and 8 o'clock respectively on
Friday, and for the Christmas
party. Thursday, December 28
in the form of a theatre party
tour of St. Peter's Basilica and
supper.
The Advent Worship Service
was conducted by Janyce and
Karen Grose and the balance of
the meeting was spent in re-
hearsing the anthems for the
Vesper Service, December 17.
EXPLORERS
The 8th Expedition and Pres-
entation of Stars of the Lucan-
Clandeboye explorers was held
in the Lucan United Church
schoolroom last Monday when 12
guests accepted the invitation to
attend. Four counsellors and 27
Explorers were out for this spec-
ial Expedition.
Chief Explorer Julie Noyer
welcomed the guests and intro-
duced the councillors and of-
ficers.
Four girls explained the Ex-
plorer Emblem which was fol-
lowed by the •4 Presentation of
Stars" ceremony.
Mrs. Kraul presented First
Red Stars to eight girls, Mrs.
Froats presented First Blue
Stars to six girls and Mrs. Mc-
Roberts presented First Gold
Stars to 11 girls.
A film entitled, "And there
were Shepherds" was shown as
the worship service. The verses
were read by Mrs. Don O'Neil
and the commentary by Mrs.
Ross McRoberts.
Each group sang a Christmas
number, after which Mrs, O'Neil
read the story entitled," Finding
Christmas."

Mrs. Wes Atkinson.
Mr. Gordon Whitehead, is a
patient in Westminster Hospital
and was not even able to attend
the election Dec. 4.
Mr. Murray Abbott, who is on
the sick list at his son Don's
home, is recuperating.

family of Detroit were Saturday
guests of Mrs. John Casey.
Mr. & Mrs. Roscoe Hodgins

last weekend with Mr. D. A.
