Mrs. James McAllister, president, opened with passages of scripture and gave a talk on Christmas traditions especially those dealing with candle light- lug. This was followed by prayer, Scripture passages were read by Mrs, John Corbett. Mrs. Harold Currie gave the devotional. She said "Christian- ity begins and ends with giving. Jesus was God's gift to the world and when one is given a gift the only thing to do is accept it." Miss Mary Goodwin favored with a solo. Mrs. J. Goddard accom- panying her on the new piano. Mrs. Walter Spencer intro- duced the guest speaker, Mrs. M. C. Fletcher of Exeter, who spoke on "Tensions of 196'7". She said "When we get away from God we have tensions." She added "Our children are our most prized possessions, they are more important than the color TV or the many gad- gets for which women leave their homes and go to work to pro- cure and it is time for us to reassess our lives and to be ourselves not try to be like our neighbors." Mrs. Currie ably conducted a short service when Mrs. D,I. Hill of Exeter presented her daughter, Mrs. Harvey Keys, with a UCW Life Membership. Mrs. J. C. Goddard played a beautiful composition of Christ- mas carols. Mrs. Earl Rowe gave courtesy remarks. HEBER DAVIS SAINTSBURY The congregational supper held in the Parish Hall Saturday even- ing was well attended. Following the supper a short program consisting of carols, the Christmas story, given by one of the pupils of the Sunday School, songs and readings were given followed by slides present- ed by the rector Rev. S. J. Bell. Firstly the slides were on the Christmas story for the child- ren and then slides on the rec- tor's former work in Northern Canada. ACW ELECTS OFFICERS The ladies of St. Patrick's Church held their December meeting at the home of Mrs. Heber Davis with president Mrs. Harry Carroll in the chair. Reports were read and after a discussion period it was voted to form one group, the ACW and try to carry on in this way. Mr. Bell presided for the elec- tion of officers. Mrs. Hugh Davis was elected president, Mrs. Sam Bell is honorary president, Mrs. Bill Johnson, treasurer and Mrs. Charles Atkinson, secretary. Re- freshments were served by the hostess. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Loll Marziallo and son were guests for the week- end with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dobbs and family. Mr, and Mrs. Harry Carroll were guests Sunday evening with Mr, and Mrs. Clifford Abbott, Lucan, Miss Nancy Hardy spent the weekend with Mist Heather Davis. Forrest for the financial situation showed $31.3.07 balance in the General fund and $159.98 in the M & M fund. Mrs. Walter S pen c er brought down the budget for the coming year. It was decided to give Miss Annie Consitt's donation of $100 to an over and above gift to the M & M, to send $50 to Five Oaks and $100 to Trinidad for the purchase of another sewing machine by Miss Clark, An- nouncements included Unit I will meet every second Thursday afternoon at 2;30 pm. District man will be 101 Mr. David Murray, patient at Blue Water Rest Home, near Zurich, will celebrate his 101st birthday Monday, December 18. Mr. Murray made his home with his niece, Miss Hannah Mur- ray, RR 1 Hensall, before going to the Rest Home. He was born in Hay Township and spent sev- eral years out West engaged in farming. J uniors pick best speaker The Huron County Junior Farmers met recently in the agricultural board room at Clin- ton, with the annual public speak- ing contest being carried on in conjunction with the r e g ul a r meeting. Bob Fotheringham acted as chairman, The three speakers were Donna Reynolds, Alice Allen and Jamie- son Ribey. Alice Allen won and will represent the county in Tor- onto in January. Judge for the competition was Dale Grey, teacher at Central Huron Secondary School, Clinton. Murray Hoover took charge of the meeting following the con- test and routine reports were given by Jamieson Ribey, sec- retary, and Don Pullen, treas- urer. Donald Young announced that the Huronco Review books are to be out by the middle of De. cember. Anyone wanting one may contact a Junior Farmer memo her, It was decided to send $50 to the World Literacy Fund of Canada. This constituted the pro- ceeds from the ticket draw at the banquet in Seaforth. Plans are being made for the annual meeting in Beigrave on the first Friday in February, The annual curling bonspiel will be held in Seaforth On January 21 and the bowling tournament in Clinton on December 27, Members agreed that Murray Hoover should be the delegate to the Huron County Federation Of Agriculture.
