Mrs. Gordon Atkinson, a new
Anglican Guild leader, and Miss
Lina Abbott, a former leader,
who worked so hard for a week
to make the first of a series
of social evenings and progres-
sive euchres a real success,
last Tuesday evening were most
disappointed and discouraged
when the temperature dipped
down to 15 degrees, to have
so many friends who had prom-
ised to attend, phone up and say
it was too cold to stir out. How-
ever 41 players defied old Jack
Frost and arrived at the Parish
Hail all set for an evening's real
enjoyment.
Then on that most inopportune
day didn't the oil furnace decide
to go on strike and refused to
go.
During the afternoon, the
rector, the Rev. E. 0. Lancaster,
was able to locate a repair man
who got the furnace operating
again, but that furnace didn't
give up so easily and kept going
off and on all evening. As a re-
Church bazaar
is huge success
Friday night the 196'7 bazaar
and tea, sponsored by the Lucan
UCW was an outstanding success
and the new C. E. addition was
also a big asset in providing
ample space.
On entering the church those
attending were ushered into the
old school room, which was
decorated with elaborate Christ-
mas decorations. The members
of the UCW must have worked
right through from January to
December to fill all the booths
which lined the four sides of this
large room.
Conveners for the kitchen were
Mrs. John Park and Mrs. Murray
Hodgins; tearoom, Mrs. C. H.
George; candy, Mrs. Sheridan
Revington; confectionary, Mrs.
Orville Jones; gifts, Mrs. Emer-
son Stanley and Mrs. Erie Young;
toys, Mrs. Owen S award; knitting,
Mrs. Charles Sovereign; aprons,
Mrs. Ross McRoberts; country
store, Mrs. Leonard Smith;
Christmas tree, Mrs. Les Ken-
nedy; hake table, Mrs. A. E.
Reilly.
Admission to the bazaar was
free but those wishing to cross
the hall to the tea room (which
included almost everyone) paid
Mrs. H. B. Langford a 25 ad-
mission. In this largeCE school-
room, a number of tea tables
were centred with artistic cen-
tennial arrangements, Guests
were served a cold plate, tea,
small cakes and tarts.
The amount of the net pro-
ceeds is not yet available but
will be a goodly sum.
