Former airman receives honor
K. Carpenter who retired from RCAF Centralia in 1965 as director
of military training, was recently invested by His Excellency Gover-
nor-General Michener as a Serving Brother in the Order of St. John
at a ceremony at Government House in Ottawa. For the past three
years Mr. Carpenter has been employed by Timberjack Machines,
Woodstock. He served 26 years with the department of national
defence and plans to move to Exeter in the latter part of December.
His daughter, Mrs. John Brock, is secretary at the Exeter OPP
detachment office,

candy sale. Mrs. Lloyd Bender,

of cubs assisted the leaders in

Mr. Ray Morlock presented the
budget for 1968. There was a film
strip for the children.
MARK 40 YEARS
Mr. and Mrs. Alf Tilley cele-
brated their fortieth wedding an-
niversary last week, Saturday
evening twenty-seven relatives
gathered at the home of Mr.
Henry Pfaff to do them honor.
The evening was spent playing
cards. Gifts were presented to
Mr. and Mrs. Tilley.

The Women's Institute ar-
ranged a banquet for Senior Cit-
izens Tuesday evening, No-
vember 28. Mrs. Earl Neil was
in charge of the program; Mrs.
Ross Krueger supervised the
preparation of food.
Entertainment was provided by
Larry and Gary Gibson with their
accordions, and by an orchestra
composed of members of the
Elimville Women's Institute, who
effected a swinging rhythm with
their pots, pans and kazoos. Rev-
erend Douglas Warren addressed
the gathering. Mrs. Bruce Shap-
ton and Mrs. Russell King gave
readings.
The prize for the man with the
least hair on his head went to
Mr. George Hepburn; that for the
woman with the longest ear rings
to Mrs. Will Smith. The three
who had lucky plates were Mr.
Joe White, Mrs. Wilfred Mack and
Mr. Preston Dearing. Mr. Mack
moved a vote of thanks to the
members of the Women's In-
stitute.
PERSONALS
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hey were
in Toronto and Bradford last
weekend, guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Mervin Steick.
Mr. Lawrence Hill, who has
been a patient at St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, for many
weeks, has been transferred to
South Huron Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Schwartz
have moved into their home in
the village. Mr. and Mrs. Clare
Schwartz are occupying the house
on the farm.
Miss Car olyn McDonald of
London visited over the weekend
with Miss Margaret Haist.

Frank Hicks visited Tuesday of
last week with the former's sis-
ter, Mrs. Alex Wells, who is a
patient in the Clinton Hospital.
Mr. Wm H. Lambourn, London,

and Mrs. Mervin Elston, Bid-
dulph, visited with their cousin,
Mr. Murray Abbott on Wednesday
of last week.
Mr. John Thompson has been
confined to his home and under
the doctor's care for the past
ten days.
Mr. Gordon McDonald of
Strathroy was a last Tuesday
visitor at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. George Hicks.
Mr. Fred Howe is a patient
in South Huron Hospital having
been admitted for treatment about
ten days ago.
