Several members reported
they had received complaints
from local merchants regarding
the dirty conditions of Main. St.
"I don't know what we can do
about it," remarked Mayor Del-
bridge.
Works superintendent Jim
Paisley explained that after the
streets were swept, many store
owners swept out their stores
and just dumped the dust and
grime onto the street.
"So, what thanks do you get?"
he asked.

GIVE TIP
In his weekly report, Cpl. C.
J. Mitchell urged drivers to re-
member that "peep-hole driving"
is one of the most dangerous
practices.
"Clean all of the snow, ice
or frost from the windows on
your car before travelling," he
said.
Cpl. Mitchell advised that at
least one driver was charged
under the Highway Act for this
offense last week and warned that
other drivers who fail to clean
windows would also be charged.
During the past week the OPP
laid 22 charges under the High-
way Traffic Act, one under the
Liquor Control Act and two under
the Criminal Code.
A total of 58 drivers were
given warnings.
The police spent 252 hours
on duty and patrolled 2,738 miles.
Constable J. A. Wright visit-
ed two more schools and demon-
strated driver education for sen-
ior grades to 255 pupils.

Reeve Boyle said he wasn't
convinced the sale of liquor in
licensed establishments was a
good thing for the town.
Councillor Ted Wright said
the present liquor laws in On-
tario were "stupid", noting that
what was available for one town
should be available for another.
He met agreement from Coun-
cillor Joe Wooden who said coun-
cil should consider circulating a
petition to all municipalities urg-
ing the government to throw out
local option laws.
Council finally decided to have
the mayor's committee meet with
any interested parties to de-
termine the present interest in
staging a liquor plebiscite.
No date for the meeting was
arranged, nor any discussion held
on who would be invited to it.
