PROJECT TO BE COMPLETED
.Early in the year Linda Haugh
undertook a centennial project,
that of getting a pen pal in each
of the provinces and intheNerth-
west Territories. The response
was rather slow. A couple of
weeks ago in "The Free Press
Weekly" Linda published a plea
for help in finishing the project
before the end of the year. Re-
sults have been gratifying. To
date she has received fifty let-
ters, and she is confident that
her undertaking will be success-
fully completed in 1967.

The monthly meeting of the
Women's Institute wes held Wed-
nesday evening, November 15.
Roll call was answered by pre-
senting a centennial souvenir and
telling where and how it had
been acquired. All the articles
brought were used to form adis-
play, later in the meeting, Mrs,
Earl Haist chaired the program,
The motto '"Changes I Fore-
see in the Next Hundred fears"
was discussed by Mrs. Emmert'
Fahrner, Mrs. Ed Lampert, Mrs.
Wilfred Mack and Mrs. Earl
Heist. Larry and Gary Gibson
played accordion selections, in-

won for them first prize at Sarnia.

patients at St. Joseph's Hospital,
have returned home.

Lambeth were Sunday guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Alf Tilley.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Green-
wood and family, Don Mills, were
weekend visitors with Mr, and
Mrs. Will Oestricher.

Mr. and Mrs. William Benninger,
Mr. and Mrs. Roland i3umler,
Miss Agnes Lamport and Mr.
Wray Crittendoe were guests of
Mr. and Mrs, Lloyd Lamport.
They came to Crediton to at-
tend the wedding of Marilyn Gal-
loway and Dennis Lamport.
At a special meeting last Wed-
nesday, the Hensall Branch 468
of the Royal Canadian Legion
presented three of its members
with life membership certificates
and pins.
The First World War Veterans
are Harry Horton, P, L. Mc-
Naughton and Orville Taylor,
Presentation was made by Presi-
dent E, R. Davis who thanked
them for their long and loyal
service to the Legion and Branch.
It was also decided to hold a social
and dance Saturday, November
25 at the Legion Hall.
Seventy-one percent of the per-
sons who read a newspaper read
it page by page; twenty-seven
percent read by scanning.
Entertain guests
at Chiselhurst
Chiselhurst UCW had as their
guests the ladies of the WMS
and Marian Ritchie of Cromarty
Presbyterian Church, alsO the
UCW of Kippen and StaffaUnited
Churches.
President Mrs. R. Taylor Jr.
extended a welcome to the guests.
Mrs. Alf Ross conducted the wor-
ship period,
Mrs. Robert Simpson of Hen-
sail was guest speaker, showing
interesting slides on her trip to
the British Isles.
A quartette composed of Jean
Cole, Shirley Brintnell, Janice
Wright and Ruth Coleman sang
two numbers. Mrs, Percy Harris
Mrs. Robert Kinsman and Mrs,
Ben Stoneman were in charge of
the social part of the evening.
The November meeting of the
Chiselhurst UCW took the form of
a business meeting. The slate of
officers for the new year was
presented by Mrs, T. Brintnell,
Life membership certificates
were presented to Mrs. Thos
Brintnell and Mrs. Clarence
Coleman, the address read by
Mrs. Earl Kinsman and pins
presented by Mrs. Roy Mac-
Donald and Mrs. Percy Harris
to the ladies.
Legion auxiliary
visit at hospital
Eleven members of Hensall
Legion Ladies Auxiliary together
with ten members from Exeter
Auxiliary motored to London by
bus last Wednesday evening to
entertain veterans at West-
minster Hospital to an evening
of bingo and prizes. Lunch was
served.
Taking the trip from Hensall
were Mrs. Harold Campbell,
Mrs. Garnet Allan, Mrs. Clar-
ence Reid, Mrs. Mary Taylor,
Mrs. Harry Horton, Mrs. Wm
Smale, Mrs. W. H. Bell, Mrs.
Grant McClinchey, Mrs. Gordon
Munn, Mrs. Grant Bisback and
Mrs. Jack Simmons.
Bank manager
gets new post
Mr. V. M. Pyette, manager
of the Bank of Montreal for the
past five years left Monday of
this week for his new appoint-
ment as manager of the Bank
of Montreal at Bellville. Mrs.
Pyette and family hope to move
within the very near future.
The staff of the Bank held a
presentation for Mr. Pyette at
the Bank Friday evening and pre-
sented him with a beautiful desk
set.
The roll call was answered
by everyone present telling the
year they joined Kippen East and
some of the highlights they re-
membered. Mrs. Wm Bell and
Mrs. James Drummood reported
on the Area Convention held in
London, November 7 and 8th.
Mrs. Grant MaoLean and Mrs.
Ross Broadfoot conducted an In
Memoriam service for departed
members.
Mrs. Wm Caldwell arranged
a display of quilts and gave an
interesting talk on the making
of quilts, Mrs. Alex McGregor
and Mrs. Douglas McGregor at-
tended to registration and pre-
sented each person with a rose
corsage.
Mrs. Wm Kyle and Mrs. Dave
Triebner favored with three
songs, Frances Kinsman gave a
reading "When father papered the
parlor" and Mrs. James Chal-
mers gave the story of "Mother's
problems with the School Bus."
A play--"Wanted a Housekeep-
er" was presented with Mrs.
Wm Caldwell and Mrs. James
Drummond in the leading roles,
and Mrs. Ross Sararas, Mrs.
Ken McKay, Mrs. Vern Alder-
dice, Mrs. Robt. Bell, Mrs. Grant
MacLean, Mrs. Joyce Cooper
in the supporting roles. The cast
of the play presented a square
dance with Mrs. Ross Broadfoot
doing the honors.
In honor of from twenty five
to thirty-two years of continuous
service in Kippen East WI, Mrs.
Ernest Whitehouse, Mrs. Stewart
Pepper, Mrs. Campbell Eyre,
Mrs, John Sinclair, Mrs. Alex
McGregor and Mrs. Wm Kyle,
were presented with Centennial
rose cups and saucers.
A penny sale was conducted by
Mrs. Robert Kinsman and Mrs.
Ken McKay. Lunch was served
by the hostesses Mrs. Campbell
Eyre and Mrs. Wm Caldwell and
the committee in charge of Mrs.
Ross Sararas. Students at public schools throughout the district are getting special
instruction from the Exeter Ontario Provincial Police detachmenton

in Clinton Community Hospital.
Mr. Rudy Petske who has been
a patient at Victoria Hospital,
London, for the past five weeks
has returned home.
ELECTS PRESIDENT
Mrs. Jim Bell was nominated
president for 1968 at the meeting
of the Arnold Circle of Carmel
Presbyterian Church held Mon-
day evening. Mrs. Bell accepted
the office of president.

Mrs. Harold Knight and Mrs.
John Baker.
President Mrs. Robt Bell
thanked all who helped her with
the tea tables at their recent
bazaar November 4, and asked
all members to be present to
help with Christmas decorations
December 16.

Mrs. Albert Alexander is a
patient in South Huron Hospital
with a dislocated right shoulder
and a fractured left wrist sus-
tained in an accident in a fall
Thursday.
Mrs. Wilmer Adkins, a former
resident of this district and the
former Grace Upshall, fell down
a flight of steps to the basement
at her home Thursday fracturing
both arms. She is a patient in
South Huron Hospital, Exeter.
Mrs. C. L. Jinks is a patient
in South Huron Hospital.
Mrs. George Hess is visiting
at the home of her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J.L,
McCloy and family at Don Mills,
while her daughter (Ruth) is re-
covering from a major oper-
ation in hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Brand
(newly weds) are getting settled
in the home they purchased from
Mr. Hilliard Lawrence on Rich-
mond St. S..
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Cook,
Kathie, and Jill Drysdale, were
in Toronto Saturday attending
the Royal Winter Fair.
Mr. & Mrs. Ross Utley and
family of London were recent
visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Hugh
McEwen and family.
Mr. & Mrs. Don MacLaren of
Toronto and Mr. & Mrs. Gerry
Chapman of St. Marys visited
over the weekend with their par-
ents, Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Chap-
man and Rod.
The Board of Managers of Car-
mel Presbyterian Church will
meet at 8 pm Thursday, Nov.
23 in the school room of the
church.
Mrs. Albert Alexander frac-
tured her left arm, when she
slipped on the street last Week,
has been receiving treatment in
South Huron Hospital, Exeter and
was able to return home.

Mr. & Mrs. Don MacLaren
of Toronto were recent visitors
with the former's mother, Mrs.
Bertha MacGregor.
Mrs. Tom Kyle Jr. left Mon-
day by plane for Saskatoon to
attend the funeral of her Sister
Mrs, Charles Street, 30, who was
killed in an accident, Friday
night. Mrs. Street, the forrnee
Eye Powers, leaves a husband
and three children. Funeral ser-
vices were held Tuesday, Nov, 21.
The interior of the Legionliall
is getting a new look and is be-
ing redecorated both up and down
stairs. Artists are Bryan Kyle
and Ed Little.
