Walkom, returned home Monday night from spending a week at Expo and Ottawa, Church unit studies arts Lady's mother dies in hospital Funeral services for Mrs. Charles Sparrow of Port Elgin, who passed away early Monday morning in Southarripton Hospital were held from theStoddart Fun- eral Home, Paisley, Wednesday, September 13. Surviving are two daughters Mrs. Inez McE wen, Hensall; Mrs. Janet Darroch, Paisley; three sons, Fred and George of Dobbin- ton, Oscar, Port Elgin, and sev- eral grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hensall personal items Shipka Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Latta and family, Waterloo, spent the week- end with Mr, and Mrs. Lorne Devine. Mr. Gary Latta returned home with them after spending two weeks with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Devine. Mr. and Mrs. Art Finkbeiner, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ratz, Mr. and Mrs. Verne Sharpe visited with Mrs. Milton Ratz of Strat- ford last Sunday. Legion Ladies Auxiliary met Tuesday evening September 5 in the Legion Hall to resume their meetings with president Mrs. Harold Campbell presiding. Plans were made for a social October 28, to send a team to participate in a bowling tourn- ament at Wingham in September, to donate $100.00 to the Hensall Branch of the Canarlinn Legion for the Legion Memorial Fund, and arranged for their annual birthday party October 5 to be observed with a dinner. Mrs. Clarence Reid won the guessing prize, Mrs. Wm For- rester, the mystery prize, and Mrs. Byran Kyle, the attendance prize. Bingo was played and a pot luck lunch served. vamemssrammm `1116aVirntaMMEMAXWM John McBeath telephone official John Walter McBeath of Bruce- field, passed away suddenly at Seaforth Community Hospital Monday evening, September 11 In his 70th year. Mr. McBeath, a prominent resident of Brucefield, was superintendent of the Tuck- ersmith Municipal Telephone System for twenty-five years. Surviving are his wife, the for- mer Pearl Brock, one son, Douglas, Windsor, one sister, Mrs. J. R. (Janet) Murdoch, Brucefield and one , grand- daughter. Public funeral services will be held from the Bonthron Fun- eral Home, Hensall, Thursday, September 14 at 2:30 pm. In- terment will be in Bairds Ceme- tery. • their parents to the church. The Lakeview Quartette from Zurich composed of Messrs. John Geiger, Ervin Martin, Stewart Steckle and Ralph Gingerich, sang three numbers (unaccompanied) at the United Church Sunday morning. Miss Troyann Bell was suc- cessful in passing a dance "The Ten Fox" at the St. Thomas School of Skating. Troyann will receive a bronze medal for danc- ing. Rally Day will be observed in Hensall United Church Sunday morning, September 17. A com- bined service of the morning UCW Unit 4 meeting of the autumn season convened Thurs- day, September '7 in Hensall United Church with an attendance of 27. Mrs. Earl Rowe presided and opened with invocation. The devotional was given by Mrs. W. Weeks who used the 23rd Psalm, emphasising that this Psalm was written by David and that people live in the same 'universe as he did although some 3000 years have passed since. Mrs. C. Christie reported on her experience as a delegate to Alma College for four days in August. The theme of the school was "Called by God and his pur- pose for me". The study book was presented by Mrs. J. Flynn "On the church and the arts". In the sixth century Pope Gregory the Great advocat- ed the arts as teaching aids be- lieving that painting could do for the illiterate what writing does for those who can read. Singing can lift the heart. An Etude was played on the piano by Miss Greta Lammie. The General meeting will be held October 23 when Mrs. E Geiger of London, formerly of Hensall, will be guest speaker. Unit 4 will be in charge of the meeting. A 'workshop will be held in the United Church here on Monday, Oct., 2 from 10 to 4 o'clock when Miss Marjorie Smith of Toronto will be the speaker. The theme will be "Self Determination". Mrs. Grace Harpole was hos- tess for the meeting which closed with a social hour. Richardson clan unite for picnic The fifth annual Richardson reunion was held Sunday, Sep- tember 10 at the Hensall Com- munity Park with sixty-two, persons present. The oldest person, was Mrs. J. M. Richardson of Hen-call, and the youngest was Jennifer Davis, 15-day-old infant daughter of Gwen and Wilf Davis Of London. She is Mrs. Richardson's great- granddaughter. The children en- joyed several races and relay games. Then the adults took over and showed all how to play darts and other relay games. Supper was served in the Arena with Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Smith of London being in charge. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Richardson are in charge of the 1968 picnic and will make arrangements for time and place. GB women view slides Joint installation for three clubs Amber Rebekah Lodge met Wednesday evening, September 7 presided over by Noble Grand, Mrs. Lindsay Eyre. The new slate of officers for 1967-68 will be Noble Grand,. Mrs. John Corbett; vice-grand, Mrs. Earl Campbell; financial. secretary, Mrs. Bertha Mc- Gregor; recording secretary, Mrs. Leona Parke; treasurer, Mrs. Ed Corbett. A letter was read stating that the District Deputy president Mrs. Marjorie Broadfoot of Brucefield with her installing staff of Clinton Huronic Lodge will install the incoming of- ficers October 4. Members were pleased to learn that their centennial float which was entered in both the spring horse show and Frontier Day Show won first and second prizes. Meeting closed with a pot luck lunch and social hour. Mr. & Mrs. Don MacLaren returned to their home in Tor- onto after holidaying with the former's mother, Mrs. Bertha MacGregor and the latter's par- ents, Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Chap- man. Mr. Ronald Beaton of London spent the weekend with his par- ents, Mr. & Mrs. Bev Beaton. Mr. & Mrs. Joe DeLoge, Ponce, Puerto Rico, Mr. & Mrs. Don MacLaren, Toronto, Mr. & Mrs. Gerry Chapman, St. Marys, Mr. Craig Chapman, Sarnia, were re- cent visitors with their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Chapman and Rod. Anniversary services will be held in Chiselhurst United Church Sunday, September 24 at 2:30 pm. Guest speaker will be Rev. Currie Winlaw of Central United Church, Stratford. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith and Jerry, and Mrs. Inez Mc- Ewen visited Sunday with Mrs. McEwen's mother and Mrs. Smith's grandmother, Mrs. Charles Sparrow, who was a patient in Southampton Hospital. Mr. John Soldan, who has been a patient in South Huron Hos- pital, Exeter, for ten days suf- fering from a fall he received at a farm near Dashwood, re- turned home Monday of this week. Mr. Orville Smith is a patient in Victoria Hospital, London, where he underwent surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Bell, Pauline and Troyann, have re- turned from a two week holiday to Expo, Upper Canada Village, Morrisburg, Fort Wellington Mr. and Mrs. Leo Merritt, St. Thomas, were weekend guests with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Payne and Wayne. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hyde of Hensall, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shaddick of London, attended Expo this week. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Lindsay, Pamela, Sheila and Kevin of Ham- ilton, were weekend visitors with Mrs. John Henderson and family. Miss Sylvia Henderson, who is on the staff of the Bank of Montreal, is a patient in Clinton Community Hospital, having been admitted last Wednesday. Mrs. Pearl Shaddick visited this week with Mr. & Mrs. A. E. Shaddick in Clinton. Mrs. Myrtle MacLean visitied recently with her son and daugh- ter-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Wm J. MacLean and sons at Exeter. Mr. Lorne Hay, in company with representatives of the Aus- able River Conservation Auth- ority flew from Toronto to West- ern Canada, Monday in the in- terests of the Authority. Reeve John Corbett of Hay Township and Mrs. Corbett re- turned home after attendingExpo last week. Mrs. Myrtle MacLean frac- tured her right wrist, when she fell at her home Monday morn- ing. She was taken to South Huron Hospital, for x-rays where she was admitted, following reduction of the fracture. Mr. & Mrs. Ferris Cantelon of Cooksville were recent visit- ors with Mr. & Mrs. Walter Spencer. Morrow conducted the opening worship. Mrs. Leslie Greenwood was in charge of the program. Miss Elizabeth Ken- nedy played two piano solos. Mrs. Glen DesJardine read a poem. The topic "Hands" was given by Mrs. Greenwood. Mrs. Keyes showed pictures taken on her trip to the West Coast this summer. Mrs. Keyes, leader of the unit, presided for the business. Mrs. Alan Parker will be in charge of nursery for September and Mrs. Wrn. Blewett, the Jr. Congrega- tion. Mrs. Leroy Bariteau report- ed on the August tea, bake sale and bazaar. Lunch was served by Mrs. Howard Green, Mrs. Bill Brenner ...and Mrs. Carmen Lovie. PERSONAL Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Gill, Ja- nice and John attended the Moore- Love wedding at Parkhill United Church Friday evening. Mr. William Sweitzer received word from New Jersey that his cousin Carl Sweitzer, was found dead. He was a former resident of Crediton and had visited in the area three weeks ago.
