Greys fall again
but get closer
The Exeter Greys, winless in
Huron Ladies' Softball league
play this season, came closest,
to breaking the jinx on their home
diamond Tuesday night as they
lost to Goderich
In other action during the week
the Greys succumhed to the
Brucefield Bombers 14-2 on Fri-
day and were shut out 3-0 by
Arva in an exhibition contestSat-
urday as part of McGillivray
township's centennial celebra-
tions.
The Brucefield club are mov-
ing into high gear and will be
tough in the playoffs as they
blanked the St. Marys Comets
4-0 in their other game of the
week.
GETTING CLOSER
In losing to Goderich 8-5 Tues-
day, the Greys came on strong
in the final innings, scoring twice
in the seventh and had two more
runners on the base paths when
the game ended.
The visiting Goderich club
were in front 5-0 before the
Greys hit the score sheet with a
trio of runs in the bottom of the
fifth. With the first batter re-
tired, Ann Lewis started the rally
with a single and came home on
Audrey Pooley's triple. Brenda
Dinney followed by drawing a
free pass to first and both run-
ners came in on Sheila Willert's
double.
In the seventh, consecutive
base hits from the bats of Connie
Kernick, Willert, Joan Campbell
and pitcher Patti Robinson sent
the final Grey tallies across the
plate.
Robinson went the distance on
the mound for the Exeter girls
while Bev Wright toiled in similar
fashion for the winners.
GOOD EXHIBITION
In exhibition play at West Mc-
Gillivray Saturday both clubs
turned in a good brand of ball as
Arva shut out the Greys 3-0. The
winners scored all of their runs
in the first inning.
The Greys were only able to
get six base runners aboard dur-
ing the seven inning contest.
Their best chance to score came
in the first when Darlene Snell
singled and was able to get as
far as third.
Other Exeter safeties went to
Brenda Dinney who cracked two
singles and lone one base blows
by Fern Dougall, Joan Campbell
and Patti Robinson.

BOMBERS BOMB
The Brucefield Bombers lived
up to their name on their home
diamond Friday as they slugged
out a 14-2 win over the Greys.
They scored twice in their first
turn at bat and continued with at
least one run in every inning but
the third in hanging up the lop-
sided win.
Centre fielder Joyce Fergus-
on, one of three Hensall players
on the Brucefield club, led the
batting attack with three singles
and scored three times.
The Greys found the plate for
the first time in the fifth when
Patti Robinson singled, moved
up on a walk to Glenda Fisher
and scored on Jane Broderick's
one base blow.
Carla Revington reached first
on an error in the sixth and came
around on infield outs to register
the second and final Grey counter.
