J. LEASUM LAFOND 0. J. Leasum Lafond, 69, of RR 3, Parkhill. passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, Saturday, July 15. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Matilda Wanner, Grand Bend; Mrs. Willis (Adele) Wil- liams of Deltona, Florida; Mrs. William (Pearl) Miller of Dash- wood; two brothers, Henry of Medicine Hat, Alberta, and E cron of Los Angeles, California. The funeral was held from the T. Harry Hoffman funeral home, Wednesday, July 19 with Rev. G. E. Morrow of Grand Bend United Church officiating. Interment was made in Grand Bend cemetery. Pallbearers were Allan Wal- per, Willis Gill, George Latta, MARK 25TH ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hoffman celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary, Tuesday, July 11 with a dinner at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor. They have three sons, Bob, Bill and Jim and daughter, Mary Jane. Guests were present from Lon- don, Grand Bend, Zurich, Hen- sail and Dashwood. BECKER REUNION The 20th Becker Reunion was held Sunday, July 9 at the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Becker near Brucefield. One hundred descendants of John Becker (Sr.) gathered from Kitchener, Water- loo, Guelph, Ingersoll, London, Exeter, Dashwood, New Dundee and Crediton. President, Emil Becker presided. The afternoon was spent swimming, a horse shoe tournament and races. Plans were made for the 1968 reunion at the same site with Mr. Harold Stire president; vice- president, James Becker; sec- retary, Mrs. Emil Becker; sports, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Becker and Miss Sharon Light- foot. Prizes were given to the oldest members, Mrs. Mary Martene and Mr. Ed Stire; youngest, Ad- dison Groff. Winners in sports, 3 and under, Danny Becker; 4 and 5, Sue Anne Becker and Peter Martene; 6 and 7, Eleanor Salmon, Brian It was a sturdy one The car bash at Hensel' turned out to be a bit of a disappointment, primarily because the car was sturdier than expected. Guests in- cluded Mrs. Lillian Blair, Ex- eter, Janet's grandmother and her cousins of the Blair family also Mrs. Ellen Flannigan of London, Janet's grandmother, Mrs. Tom Hern and Mrs. Mary Martene, Ronald Hern's grand- mother, also Misses Barbara and Sheila Hern, Mrs. John Tookey, London and Mrs. Ross Ballan- tyne, Kirkton. Peter, and Mr. Cameron Wein were at Lefroy Sunday with Mrs. Kenneth Baxter. Miss Barbara Pfaff is spend- ing several weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Pfaff, Rodney. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lippert, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lewis, Clandeboye, are at- tending Expo. They drove to King- ston, then in their boat proceeded through the Rideau Lakes and canal to Ottawa. Down the Ottawa River to Montreal they followed the boat of two Mounties also on their way to Expo and with whom they struck up a friendship. They moored the boat at Dorton for their stay in Montreal. The return journey they plan to make by way of the St. Lawrence River. Mrs. Beatrice Tait, Hamilton, was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Finkbeiner. Mrs. William Smith (formerly Louella Stahls of Crediton) of Assiniboine, Saskatchewan, ac- companied by her daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur McKenzie, returning from a trip to Ottawa and Expo, called on Mr. Irving Stahls and other rela- tives and friends in the area. T-A photo BRIDE-ELECT HONORED The neighbors and relatives of Miss Linda Dickey, bride- elect, gave her a miscellaneous shower of gifts Saturday evening. It was held in the Anglican Church parish hall Saintsbury, which was tastefully decorated for the oc- casion. The address was read by Mrs. Audrey McFalls. Miss Dickey was escorted to her place of honor by her sister, Miss Judy Dickey and Miss Sherrie Nace, a school chum. The gifts were presented by Darin McFalls and the bride's brother Charlie Dickey. This was followed by a social hour. After a smor- gasbord lunch, races and games were held. The winners of the races for 5 and under were Tammy Schenk, Donnie McEwen; 6 to 8, Grant Ryan; 9 to 12, Susan Grant, Paul Ryan; over 12, Dolores Fuller, Gerald Schenk; spider race, John Bierling and Gail Stutt; hit the nail on the head, Jack Fuller; sit on a milk bottle, Mary Jane Grant; crab race, Susan Grant. A peanut and candy scramble for the children and a water- melon weight contest with Andy small lake, she found, enabled one really to "get away from it all", since to reach it one had to drive through five miles of dense woodland. Mrs. Edgar Treitz has gone to Ottawa and Expo with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Moore. A surprise party was held in the Township Community Hall for Mr. Edward Treitz en the occasion of his seventy-ninth birthday. Thirty guests were present. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Beaver of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, spent several days at the home of Mr. Harry Beaver. Miss Ada Gram of Adrian, Michigan, was a guest at the home of Miss Ella Morlock. Mrs. Nora Tauber of Fort Wayne, Indiana is spending some time with Reverend and Mrs. Howard Zurbrigg. Sunday four ladies from Kit- chener were with relatives and friends in the area. They were Miss Ella Diamond, Miss Myrtle Brown, Miss Ruby Angst and Miss Gertrude Caesar. Miss Beth Palmer, Trenton, is holidaying with her grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emmery Fahrner. Mrs. Alf Smith, Mrs. Lorne Finkbeiner and Mrs. Lawrence Hill spent a day with Mrs. Ruby Molitor at her Ipperwash cot- tage. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Hudson and their daughter. McBain of Grimsby last Tuesday. Mrs. McBain is Mrs. Oestricher's sister. They then visited overnight with an- other sister and her husband, Dr. and Mrs. S. L. Honey of Fenwick. Before returning home they enjoyed several days of touring the countryside along Lake Erie. Mr. and Mrs. Will Oestricher visited Mr. Oestricher's brother- in-law, Mr. George Cole, at Parkwood Hospital, London, on Sunday. They then spent the rest of the afternoon and early even- ing with Mrs. Cole at her home. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Morlock, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Smith and Ronnie were guests Sunday of Mrs. Hilliard Sperling, Walker- ton. Miss Judy Finkbeiner received word that she was successful in passing her course in second year Honours English and French at the University of Western Ontario. Until classes reconvene in September she is employed at Paramount Decorators, London. Friday, July 14, Miss Judy Finkbeiner attended the Osborne - Chanyi wedding at Delhi. The afternoon was spent in games and contests conducted by Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Ford and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bern. CARMEL At the funeral of Mrs. Laura Glavin, 81, of RR 1, Crediton, at St. Peter's Church, Biddulph, on Thursday, July 13, Requiem High Mass was at 10 am with Rev. A. P. Jansen officiating assisted by Rev. R. Glavin of Kingsville. Interment was in St. Peter's Cemetery. Pallbearers were six grand- sons: James and Larry Carey, Edward and Thomas Glavin, John Dietrich and David Trudell. The Honor Guard of the CWL included Mrs. Joseph Conlin, Mrs. Larry Cronyn, Mrs. Charles Cronyn, Mrs. Stephan Orenczuk, Mrs. Leo Boyle and Mrs. William Thompson. Flowerbearers were six granddaughters, Misses Jean and Karen Helm, Misses Mary Angela and Theresa Glavin, Anna Marie Dietrich and Mary Carol Trudell. PERSONALS Mrs. John Hall, Lorraine, Anne and Philip have motored to Mon- treal to spend a week at Expo. Mother Mary Elizabeth of Windsor spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Michael Ryan Sr. of Mt. Carmel. Mrs. Laura McCann has been ill for past week but is recuper- ating this week, Mrs. Ted Lane and family, Detroit, has been visiting for past few days with the former's mother. Rev.
