VISIT EXPO Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Gabel spent some time at Expo and while away their daughter Susan spent a holiday with Mrs. Carl O'Neil, Lucan, Tom Kestle, Erwin Gabel, Larry Armstrong, Doug Lewis and Mike Bobor motored to Expo and spent over a week arriving home Sunday. Glen and Alan Wright spent some time on a bus trip to Expo. P ERSONALS St. James Anglican Church Women were pleased with the Larry Armstrong and Alan Wright have been successful in their Grade 11 exams and Alan Wright in Grade 12. ATKINS REUNION A family reunion of the Atkins family was held at the residence of Mr. Bill Atkins, RR 1 Clande- boye, on Saturday, July 8. Attend- ing were Mrs. Grace McCall. of Tuscon, Arizona, her sister Mrs. C. Kennedy from Detroit, Michi- gan, Mrs. Billy Beaudin, Mount Clemens, Michigan, Mary and Bill Cheshire from London, Mr. Harold Atkins and daughters Jean and Linda, Mr. George and Rae Atkins of Clandeboye. Cousin Grace McCall made a very enlightening speech on the "Habits of the American Indians" of the State of Arizona. This reunion has been one of the first in many years but most certainly not the last. Mrs. Emily Tomes spent a couple of days last week with her friend Mrs. Margaret Poole, London. She is able to be home after spending a couple of weeks at Victoria Hospital. There will be a street dance Friday night in Clandeboye in aid of street lights. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Manson, John and Mary, Simcoe enter- tained at their home Sunday for Mrs. Manson's mother, Mrs.A1- yin Cunningham's birthday. Others attending were Mr. and Mrs, Juin Cunningham, Catherine and Marion, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cunningham, David and Donald and Mrs. Cunningham's father, Mr. Alvin Bayley, London. Practice is being held at the home of Larry Armstrong for the new upcoming group with Tom Kestle, lead in guitar, Wayne Hodgins, organ, Mike Bobor, drums, Bev Shipley, saxophone, Don Long, bass guitar, Larry Armstrong, singer and Doug 'Lewis, manager. The graduating grade eight class at Usborne Central school was honored at a banquet last week in the school auditorium. School in- spector F. PATON Cecil Simpson, 79, of Galt and a native of Clandeboye, died in Coutts Memorial Pavilion, Freeport, Saturday, July 1, He was born in Clandeboye, son of Richard Simpson and Ellen Hodgins Simpson, one of a family of seven; Mrs. Donald McKay, Miss Blanche Simpson, W. P. Simpson, London, Mrs, Andy (Stella) Dorman, Ailsa Craig, Mrs. Percy (Clara) Windsor, Cecil and Miss Ella Simpson. Only two of the family are still living. Cecil Simpson, well-known citizen of Galt for many years and the oldest member of Galt legal profession had conducted a general practice of law since September 1, 1922. His original office was at 29 Dickson St. He moved to the McIrvine block in 1931. He graduated from the Uni- versity of Western Ontario in 1915 and from Osgoode Hall in 1920. He had previously spent one year at law school of the University of SouthernCalifornia at L o s Angeles. He was appoint- ed Queen's Council in 1956. Mr. Simpson was a member of Central Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir and was an elder for many years. In 1915 he married Ida Soper, daughter of the late Augustus Soper. She predeceased him in 1958. Surviving are three daugh- ters: Mrs. Marian Clancy, Galt; Mrs. Robert (Nancy) Rodgers, London; Mrs. Carl (Patricia) Speichts, Digby, N.S.; one bro- ther, William P. Simpson, Lon- don, one sister, Mrs. Dorman, Ailsa Craig. Funeral services were con- ducted Tuesday, July 4 by the Rev. Vincent Trimmer, Galt, with burial in the Stanley plot, St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye. Kathleen Morley read the Scrip- ture, Mrs. Steeper gave a read- ing "celebrate but job half done", followed by reading "The Hope of Canada" given by Mrs. Edwin Morley and Mrs, Arnold Was- nidge read a poem. Mrs. Jack Hodgson presided over the business. All plans for the barbecue were finalized. All present enjoyed lunch by Group I ladies. MORENZ REUNION The Morenz reunion was held at Brodhagen Community Centre, July 2 with about 75 attending. A program was arranged by Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jeffery and Mr. Earl Stephen. A peanut scramble started off the races, winners were: Jacque- line Herold, Carolyn Wilhelm, Carman Roesner, Al Corbett and Marion Jeffery. Harold and Billy Jeffery won the three-legged race; balancing glass of water on head, Roy Morenz; kick the slipper, June Anderson; throwing the ball in basket, Jeff Corbett, Marlene Jeffery and Al Corbett. President Orville Kohle wel- comed all present. A singsong was conducted by Roy Morenz and Wm. Jeffery with Mrs. Kohle at the piano, Helen Jeffery fa- vored with several religious sel- ections on the accordion. Mr. Wm. Stephen showed many magic tricks, Roy Morenz played the guitar and mouth organ, Sharon Morenz entertained with baton twirling. Many ladies attended the trous- seau tea on Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Webber in honor of their daughter, bride- elect of this Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jeffery Douglas and Nancy of Preston called on relatives in the com- munity Sunday. Mr. Robert Ross of London called on Mr. and Mrs. William Rohde on Monday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Merrill, Gordon, Brian and Esther of Bayfield visited Thursday even- ing with Mr. and Mrs. Almer Passmore. NORMAN LONG A well attended combined ser- vice was held Sunday, July 9 at Brucefield United Church, to mark the closing of the Vacation Bible School, at which 93 child- ren between the ages of four and 12 years participated. The service was presided over by David Lovell of Kippen and Glen McGregor of Brucefield. The senior members of the school led by Gregory Love of Kippen presented a Centennial litany and an anthem. Their report was given by Karen Fredin of Bruce- field. Each of the groups presented musical numbers and reports were given by Miss Kim Thomp- kins of Brucefield and Miss Jill McLellan of Kippen. Miss Bar- bara Swan, the director of the kindergarten group, led their singing and gave their report. Rev. Donald Stuart who direct- ed the school reported a success- ful week. The service was fol- lowed by an inspection of the handicrafts.
