Surprise pair
on anniversary
Last Sunday, 26 relatives of
Mr. and Mrs, H. B, Langford,
from Toronto, Hamilton, Ft.
Frances, London and Lucan
sprang a real surprise on them
prior to their 25th wedding anni-
versary, July 4.
Arrangements had been made
for Mr. and Mrs. John Park and
Mr, and Mrs. Langford to meet
Mr, and Mrs. Butler of Toronto
at the Flying Dutchmen Motel,
Kitchener Sunday as the Butler's
were attending a wedding there.
It wasn't until entering the dining
room that the Langford's realized
the crowd waiting to enter all
belonged to their family. What a
surprise! It was a dual cele-
bration for Sunday was also the
birthday of Mr. John Park.

District resident
dies in London
Mrs. Arthur Hodgson, 46, of
McGillivray Township, passe d
away in St. Marys Hospital, Lon-
don, Thursday, June 29, after
a lengthy illness. The body rested
in the Murdy Funeral Home,
Lucan, until 2;30 pm Saturday,
July 1 when the Rev. John Davies
of Ailsa Craig, conducted funeral
services. Interment was in Eben-
ezer Cemetery, McGillivray
Township,
Pallbearers included Don Suth-
erland, Peter Voison, Howard
Fenton, George Mercer, Bill
Fenton and Wes Watson.
Besides her husband, Mrs.
Hodgson is survived by two
daughters and one son, Patricia
(Mrs. Wm Rock) RR 2 Ailsa
Craig, Katherine and George at
home, her father, Mr. George
Thompson of Parkhill, also three
brothers and one sister, Howard
Thompson of Grand Bend, Harry
Thompson of Prince Albert, Sask.
and Charles Thompson of Park-
hill and Ruth (Mrs. Earl Patter-
son) of London and one grand-
child.
Daughter of Mr. George
Thompson and the late Mrs.
Thompson, Mrs. Hodgson was
the former Pearl Thompson.
Pupils enjoy playday
—urged to play safely
Tuesday afternoon, June 27,
the children of the Lucan Junior
Public Scheel held a playday.
Twelve teams consisting of
grades two, three and four, and
ten teams consisting of grades
kindergarten and one competed
in such events as the sack race,
three-legged race, crab race,
wheel barrow race, slalom and
several other novelty relays and
races.
First prize ribbons were
awarded to teams nine and three,
second prize r ibbo n s were
awarded to teams two and five;
and third prize ribbons were
awarded to teams eleven and
eight.
Several mothers, high school
students and students from grade
eight at the Biddulph school as-
sisted the teachers as they took
the pupils through the various
events.
The Parent-Teachers Club set
up a booth and sold refreshments
after all the events had been
completed.

School on Thursday, June 29.
Mr. Steeper spoke to the children
on the need to play safely during
the summer noting also that in the
last month two boys in the school
had been in minor accidents with
cars. After the assembly the
children returned to their rooms
to receive their report cards.
At noon hour the children were
given an ice-cream treat by the
teachers. Many also received
awards for their proficiency in
the various subject areas.
Families hold
annual picnics
HARDY PICNIC
Mrs. Frank Hardy's birthday
is July 4. For years the family
have arranged a picnic on the
Sunday nearest to the 4th at Fish
Creek near Prospect Hill.
This year 58 members and two
visitors were present, Owing to
so much rain and damp grounds
only one meal was served at
5 pm. During the afternoon Mrs.
Mert Culbert and Mrs. Leroy
Revington were in charge of a
program of races and variety
contests.
All the children grouped to-
gether and extended their con-
gratulations to "Grandma" in
song, which Mrs. Hardy deeply
appreciated.
BANTING PICNIC
Over 60 members of the Bant-
ing family held their annual two-
meal picnic at the home of Donald
Gilbert near Ailsa Craig Sunday.
Guests were present from
California, Lansing, Sarnia, St.
Thomas, Denfield, London and
Lucan, in the afternoon there
were races for the children while

Mrs. S. Butler
dies in hospital
Mrs. Sanford Butler, 64, of
Dorchester, formerly of Lucan,
passed away in Victoria Hospital,
after a short illness Monday,
June 26.
The body rested at the R. A.
Logan and Son Funeral Home,
Dorchester, where prayers were
said at 8 pm Tuesday, then to
the Ingersoll Sacred Heart Cath-
olic Church for requiem High
Mass at 10 am Wednesday, June
28 with Rev. J. E. Braisson
officiating. Interment was in
Sacred Heart Cemetery, Inger-
soll.
Pallbearers included two
neighbors and the four relatives,
Charles Wilkinson, Arthur Wilk-
inson, Robert Howell and Charles
Levey.
Mrs. Butler is survived by one
daughter Jean (Mrs. Henry Valk-
enburg) of Dorchester, two sis-
ters, Irene (Mrs. A. R. Wilkin-
son) of Lucan, Lillian (Mrs.
Dalton Draper of Cookstown) and
four grandchildren. Her husband
predeceased her.
Mrs. Butler, daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay Ellah
was the former Margaret Ellah.
She spent her early life inLucan.

Mrs. Jack Van Geel and Mrs.
Leo Morkin were hostesses for
a bridal shower in the St. Pat-
rick's old school last Tuesday
night for Miss Godeleive Cly-
mans who will marry Gerald
Siroens Saturday, July 8.
Games were played and among
the winners were Mrs. Don Mc-
Comb, Mrs. Cliff McLean, Mrs.
Anton Menders and Mrs. Trudy.
Hector McFee
lived to be 90
One of Lucan's oldest resi-
dents, Hector McFee, 90, of
Margaret St., passed away after
a lengthy illness in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, Wednesday,
June 28. The body rested in the
Murdy Funeral Home, Lucan,
where prayers were said Friday
evening at 9 pm, then to St.
Patricks' Church, Biddulph at
10 am Saturday, July 1 where
the Rev,F. J. Bricklin officiated
for High Mass. Interment was
in St. Patricks Cemetery.

Morley, Stuart Munro, Don Suth-
erland, George Hebblethwaite,
Harvey Pickering and Gus Mit-
chell.
Besides his wife, the former
Marion Hebblethwaite, he is sur-
vived by one sister, Miss Annie
McFee of London.
Before moving to Lucan 10
years ago Mr. McFee worked
for the George White and Sons
Co. Ltd., London, Mr. and Mrs.
McFee were married Oct. 23,
1916 and celebrated their golden
wedding last October.
Bruss. Lunch and a social hour
