Hensall Centennial Committee
finalized plans for Frontier pays
July 14-15 at Wednesday night's
meeting. Prizes of $10, 7 and 5
will be given for best float, best
Centennial float, best horse
drawn vehicle, best old car entry
in monstrous parade Saturday,
July 15, Children's entries of
wagons, bikes, doll carriages,
etc. will be judged also with
$3, 2 and seven $1.00 prizes.
Zurich Centennial band will
be featured in the parade. Prizes
of $35 will be awarded at the
Fashion Show Saturday, July 15
at 0:30 in the arena. Meg Daniels
of CFPL London will be on hand
to commentate at this Fashion
Show.
A Penny carnival, races and
games are arranged for the child-
ren and a car bash for the teen-
agers is also planned for Sat-
urday. Two dances, Western
games and Beard Contest Friday
night combined with Saturday's
festivities should make up a roar-
ing happy birthday to Canada.
The General IJCW meeting was
held last Monday evening with
unit three in charge. Mrs. J.
McAllister, president, opened
with a poem.
Mrs. Ken Elder presided for
the program. Mrs. Albert Shirray
presented the devotional on Stew-
ardship, using the theme "We
give thee but thine own". Mrs.
Berne McKinley presided at the
piano and played several sacred
numbers, the audience accomp-
anying her with song, for the
latter part, which included the
new Centennial hymn.
The study on "Stewardship"
was in charge of Mrs, V. M.
Pyette, assisted by Mrs. Lorne
Chapman and Mrs. Vera Alder-
dice.
Mr. Douglas Currie presented
a film (Nam and his World"
which is the theme of Expo 67,
and the next best thing to being
there in person. Courtesy re-
marks were given by Mrs. Oliver
Jaques.
Mrs, McAllister chaired the
business. Mrs. Edison Forrest
presented a complete report of
the treasury, various other re-
ports were given. Mrs. E. Chip-
chase reported for Supply and
Welfare, stating that 18 cartons
of clothing had been packed and
10 of them sent to the Salvation
Army, London, five to Toronto
for overseas relief, and three to
Winch Hospital, Hazelton, B.C.
Ninety-two Hensall children
have registered for swimming in
Exeter. Due to the high per-
centage of beginners, lessons
will be extended to 2:30. The bus
will leave from the town hall at
12:40 each day and return to the
Arena at 2:45.
The turnout for roller skating
during the four days last week
was higher than anticipated. Ap-
proximately '75 attended on Mon-
day and Wednesday evenings and
approximately 60 younger skaters
participated on both Tuesday and
Thursday afternoons.
The playground program will
commence at 9:00 am next Mon-
day. There have been 157 play-
ground registrations received.
The Recreation Staff purchased
arts and crafts supplies and
sports equipment In London.
Among the new playground in-
novations will be tetherball and
paddle tennis.
Saturday, July 15 to coincide
with Frontier Days, the play-
ground leaders will conduc t
active and quiet games for the
children at the playground from
2:00 to 5:00 pm.
Thursday July 13 from 10:00
to 11:00 a raiding band of play-
ground Indians will seize the
town hall after parading around
Hensall.

The sympathy of this com-
munity is extended to Mr. and
Mrs. Beverley Cliffe of London,
in the drowning of their young-
est son Ronald last Wednesday
at Emmerton Beach.
His body was found Sunday
near the spot where he was
drowned but the fourteen-year-
old girl that went to his rescue
has not been found yet.
Mr. Beverley Cliffe was a
resident here some time ago.

onto was a weekend visitor with

London, is holidaying with her

Communion service was con-
ducted in Carmel Presbyterian
Church Sunday by Rev. John C.

an inspiring message "Melting
Hostility". Messrs. Wayne and
Jim Love sang a duet accompan-
ied at the organ by Mrs. Mac
Dougall. The United Church con-
gregation are worshipping with
the Presbyterians during July.
Very Worshipful W. 0. Good-
win who has held the position as
secretary of AF & AM Huron
Lodge 224, for the past thirty
two years, has resigned and Earl
Campbell will take over as sec-
retary.
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Moir and
family have taken up residence in
their house on Oxford St., which
they recently purchased.

celebrated their 58th wedding
anniversary quietly at their home
Friday, June 30.
