Students at Exeter P ublic
school complete their term to-
day, and most of them will end
it on a happy note.
Principal Arthur Idle reported
this week that the usuaihigh per-
centage of students will advance
to the next grade when they re-
turn in September.
Looking back on the term, Mr.
Idle indicated that the removal
of formal examinations had re-
lieved tension among the children
and also created less pressure
at the end of the year for the
teachers as well.
He said that under the new
system the teachers are able
to transfer their work lead to
something more useful than
marking exam papers which
they usually can predetermine
within a few marks anyway.
Major change at the school
in the fall will be the estab-
lishment of three groups of kin-
dergarten students. The school
board chose this method to over-
come the overcrowding problem
brought about by increased enrol-
ment. All students will receive
an equal amount of time at school,
but they will only attend for one-
third of the school year as op-
posed to the previous practice of
kindergarten students attending
for half the school year by attend-
ing half days.
Parents will be receiving the
September schedule for their kin-
dergarten students in August.
Printed below are the grades
into which the students will be
placed for the fall term:

— Continued from front page
ditch on the Crediton Road on
May 30.
Robert J. Jones, Exeter, was
fined $25 also after pleading
guilty to a charge of operating
a commercial vehicle which was
improperly loaded.
He had been proceeding north
on Highway 4 on May 30 when a
large stone fell from his dump
truck and crashed into the wind-
shield of a southbound car.
Jones said he did not know it
had happened until he had been
persued and stopped by the other
driver.
Brian Lightfoot, Clinton, was
fined $20 and costs for moving
from a parked position and creat-
ing a dangerous act. He had pull-
ed from the side of Highway 4 in
the construction area and pulled
into the path of another vehicle,
resulting in an accident.
DROVE ON LAWN
Ronald H. Moore, 16, Exeter,
was fined $30 under a town by-
law after driving across the lawn
in front of the Exeter swimming
pool on June 11.
The ground was quite soft at
the time and the tire tracks cut
into the grass.
Moore, who pleaded guilty, said
he had repaired the damaged lawn
himself and it was not noticeable
at this time.
It was indicated that the lawn
repair had been satisfactory to
the Exeter RAP committee.
In another traffic case, Ernest
J. Kernick, Exeter was fined
$20 and costs for failing to yield
the right of way at the William
and Anne St. intersection on June
17.
He collided with a Car driven
by Ray Frayne at the intersece
tion.
Kernick told the court the yield
sign governing the intersection
from the way he was travelling
was obscured by a large tree
branch.
SPEEDERS PAY
Several drivers paid speeding
fines in court,
A Grand Bend man, liansey
DeJong, paid $45 and costs after
the Wirt was told he attained
speeds up to 100 m.p.h. on June
6.
The police officer trying to
catch him said he could not do so
until the accused ran out Of gas.
De Jong told the court he was
late for work and this prompted
his speed.
Others paying speeding fines
were:
Thomas Richardson, Bruce-
field, paid $46 and costs fOr
doing 90 m.p.h. in a 60 zeria.
Richard R. WYrOZUk paid $15
for driving hiS motorcycle at a
speed of 55 while going through
DaShwood on June 19.
