Mee Ewen, RR 2 The tractor, completely gutted by fire, driven by Leonard Smale, 17, Hensall, upset and caught fire in the middle of the road, Smale who was thrown from the tractor, received road burns and bruises. Ted Stoneman, 19, TIR 1 Cromarty, who was on the trac- tor, jumped and was not injured. Damage was high as Mr. McEwen had recently had it overhauled, OPP W. G. Glassford, Exeter Detachment investigated. Hensall personals Legion Ladies Auxiliary met Tuesday evening with president Mrs. Harold Campbell presiding. Members were informed that the recent Penny Sale was a great success, and that the Zone Rally will be held in Hensall in May, 1968 in the second week, and that members will participate in a Centennial Fashion Show at Hen- sail Saturday, July 15, Mrs. Howard Smale won the mystery prize, Mrs. Grant Mc- Clinchey, the guessing prize, and Mrs. Jack Simmons, the attend- ance. The Rev. H. A. Seegmiller conducted the service Sunday evening at 7 pm. Rev. H. F. Currie of the UnitedChurch read the Second lesson. The Rev, T. M. B. Parker MA, DD of Burford, a former minister, was guest speaker. Miss Jean Henderson was solo- ist. The choir under direction of Mrs. F. Forrest sang an anthem with soloists Miss Brenda Lav- ender and Miss Sylvia Henderson. Presbytery meeting staged at Cromarty Observing Veterans Week June 11 to 17, Hensall Branch of the Canadian Legion 468, Auxiliary, Oddfellows, Guides, Brownies, Scouts and Cubs with their lead- ers and headed by the Exeter Legion Pipe Band held a brief service at the Cenotaph when Reeve Minnie Noakes placed a wreath "In memory" Canada, followed with a service at Hen- sall United Church when Rev. Harold Currie addressed the gathering. After the church service at the cenotaph, a salute to the colors Was received by President E. R. Davis, of the Legion, President Mrs. Harold Campbell for the Auxiliary, and Reeve Minnie Noakes representing the village. Parade Marshall was Wilmer Dalrymple, color sergeant, Jim Taylor. The parade was one of the finest in Hensall in years. Couple wed 50 years By MRS. KEN McKELLAR CROMARTY The June Conference of the Stratford Presbyterial was held in Cromarty Presbyterian church on Wednesday, June 7, with a good representation of the societies at afternoon and evening meetings. The vice president Mrs. Norm- an Coulthard of Stratford presid- ed at the afternoon session when various reports were presented by executive members. Mrs. Glenn Thompson of Stouffville gave a stirring ad- dress, dealing with the church's many missionaries and the work in which they are engaged. Mrs. Stewart of Avonton contributed vocal solos accompanied by Mrs. Calvin Christie. Mrs. John Miller, president of Cromarty Evening Auxiliary pre- sided for the evening meeting which was in charge of the Even- ing Auxiliary Department. Mrs. Alex Fryfogel of RR 2 Stratford gave a report of the Conference of the Evening Department which was held in Kitchener. Mr. David Stewart BA con- ducted service in Carmel Pres- byterian Church Sunday, deliver- ing an Inspiring sermon on "Freedom in Christ". Flowers in the sanctuary were in mem- ory of Mrs. Wm. G. Bell and John F. Ingram. During the month of July the United Church people will be worshipping in Carmel Church. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Daley and Steven of London were recent visitors with Mrs. Daley's par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parker and Patsy. Miss Cindy Parker visited over the weekend with her grandparents. Anniversary services will be held in Hensall United Church Sunday June 18. At 11 am the speaker will be Rev. Colin B. Grassie, BA, of Merlin. Special choral numbers by Hensall United Church Choir with guest instrum- entalist, Mrs. Berne McKinley. At 7:30 pm the speaker will be Rev. M. Shatto BA, BD, of Zurich EUB Church. The ministry of music will be led by the choir of the United Evangelical Breth- ren Church of Zurich, Centennial costume is optional for evening service. Mr. and Mrs. Melville Tra- quair celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a fam- ily dinner Sunday at the Sheraton room, Hotel Hensall and open house at their home Tuesday afternoon and evening when over 100 relatives and friends called to extend congratulations and best wishes. Mr. and Mrs. Traquair, the former Edna Mitchell, were mar- ried 50 years ago by Rev. Harold Knight at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John T. Mitchell of Tuckersmith Town- ship. The bride's father cele- brated his 100th birthday, Feb- ruary 7 this year. They farmed first on the Traquair homestead in Tuckersmith and later moved to the farm nearby from which they retired to Hensall last No- vember. The celebrants have four sons: Jack, St. Thomas; Murray on the homestead, Arthur of Wood- stock and Robert, Sarnia, also ten grandchildren and one g r ea t- granddaughter. The family pre- sented Mr. and Mrs. Traquair with a gold wristwatch each. Oth- er gifts were also received. During the business session presided over by president Mrs. V. M. Pyette a donation of$25,00 was made to Huron-Perth Tor- nado Fund. Mrs. Beverly Beaton gave a report of the District Annual held at Crediton, Mrs. R. A. Orr reported on the meeting of the District Executive to plan for the County Rally in Crediton Monday, October 2. A recreation period of euchre Was enjoyed and the following were winners: Mrs. Luella Wil- lert, Mrs. Elsie Carlile, Mrs. Archie Noakes. George Smale dies in hospital George Smale of Hensall, 86, a well-known citizen of Hensall for many years, passed away in South Huron Hospital, Exeter, Friday, June 9. Left to mourn his loss are four sons, William, Howard and Tom, Hensel', Alvin, Seaforth, three daughters (Pearl), Mrs. William Hooper, Grand Bend; (Irene), Mrs. Allan Quance, Staffs; (Bella) Mrs. Clarence Farwell, Zurich, four brothers, Frank, Seaforth, Neil, Tower,Mich., Henry and Ed of Saskatchewan, 22 grand- children and 24 great grand- children. Mrs. Smale passed away some years ago. Public funeral services largely attended were held Monday, June 12 from Bonthron Funeral Home conducted by Rev. H. F. Currie. Burial was in McTaggarts Cem- etery. Bearers were Eric Smale, Don Smale, Ronald and Mervyn Steph- en, Otto Smale, Gary' Quance, grandsons of the deceased. Flow- er bearers, George Farwell, Jack Stephen, Ken and Leonard Smale, Bob and Jim Smale, also grand- sons. to the Pre-Assembly Congress of the Presbyterian Church, which was held at Kingston June 3-6. Mrs. A. Glenn Thompson of Stouffville was a guest of Mrs. E. Moore Wednesday night. Mr. & Mrs. J. R. Jefferson are spending this week at the home of their daughter and son- in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Don Rhiel, RR 5 Stratford. Mrs. Jennie Wilson of Zurich spent the weekend with Mrs. E. Moore. Mr. & Mrs, Jim Ramsey and family of Listowel visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Alex Ramsey. Mr. & Mrs. K. McKellar were entertained at a family picnic supper on Sunday by their son-in- law and daughter, Mr. & Mrs. W. N. Binning and family, Mit- chell, honoring Mrs. McKellar on her 81st birthday. Mr. & Mrs. Robert Laing and family, Mr. & Mrs. J. R. Jeffer- son, Mrs. George Wallace, Mrs. Verna Brooks, Mr. & Mrs. John Wallace and Debbie were among the relatives who attended the Wallace family reunion at Seb- ringville Park on Saturday. Miss Lily Ballantyne of Exeter visited with Mr. & Mrs. Carter Kerslake. PERSONALS Mr. David Scott was a delegate Stoffer Faber dies in Exeter Public funeral services for the late Stoffer Faber of RR 1 Hen- sail, were held from the Bonthron Funeral Home Monday, June 12 conducted by Rev. D. J. Scholten, Burial was in Hensall Union cemetery. Mr. Faber, who lived with his son Harry following the death of his wife nine years ago, passed away in South Huron Hospital, Exeter, Saturday in his 86th year. Surviving are four sons, Harry, RR 1 Hensall, Rochus and Egbert, RR 3 Kippen, Cornelius, RR 3 Exeter; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, one sister in Holland. Bearers for the funeral were Bert and John Branderhorst, Ross, Russell and Ken Faber and Mr. Broekstra,
