Dumping milk would be
done as last resort only
NOW ...Improve Your farming
Efficiency and Increase Your Profits!
Eastern Canada farm leaders
have denied reports that they
plan to dump milk if the govern-
ment does not meet their de-
mands.
Walter Maier, vice-president
of the Ontario Farmers' Union,
was quoted fallowing last week's
Ottawa farmers' march as saying
that farmers would turn to milk

dumping..
Mr. Miller says the quotation
" Completely m l srepresents
what I said,"
He says the only reference he
made to milk dumping while in
Ottawa Wa$ at a news conference
Of vice-presidents of the three
sponsoring organizations in the
Nation Press Building.
During the conference, the
three organizations were asked
what further action they plan if
the government does not act on
their requests.
Representatives of all three
organizations said what they de
here, will depend on what their
members want.
The question then came: Would
you turn to milk dumping?
Mr. Miller says his answer
was that this would be only a
last resort, and that all other
action would have to fail before
the farmers would turn to dump-
ing.
"I told them farmers can't
afford to produce milk for long

Tem Robson, a vice-president
of the Ontario Federation, of Ag-
riculture, who was also at the
news conference, describes as
"Irresponsible"" the report that
farmers were thinking of dump-
ing action,
Mr. Robson says he was asked
the same question, and that he
responded about the same as Mr.
Miller,
"I told them every other aven-
ue of protest would have to be
exhausted before we would con-
sider dumping." he says.
"That is a lot different from
saying we're going to dump milk
if we don't get what we want,"he
says.

Firemen douse bonfire
Exeter firemen answered a call to the farm of James Gardiner, RR 1. Kirkton, Friday, but all they had
to do was put out a bonfire, Sparks from the fire had started a blaze on the small shed roof to the left,
but Mr. Gardiner and hi$ family managed to get it out. Firemen were called because of the danger to
the larger barn in the background, which was also in the path of the sparks. T-A photo

One delegate who attended a
folk school said 1,1 had ideas
before, and now I am not afraid
to use them".
Another remarked: "I've been
able to practise some of the
methods I learned at folk school
in a youth group I lead and now
have become enthused about lead-
ing this group, instead of just

Beans going
in new plan
Lucan
Huron MP Robert McKinley
has been successful in his at-
tempt to have more white beans
in the external aid program for
Canada.
Earlier this year he made the
suggestion in the House of Com-
mons that beans be included in
the program and since then Mali
has received 1,302 tons and an-
other 1,302 tons ordered. The
Canada department of agriculture
has also ordered beans in the
amount of 60 tons for the Central
African Republic, 12 tons for the
Philippines, 90 tons for Bolivia
and 156 tons for Somalia.
These are to be shipped during
1967, as well as some to Senagel
and Turkey, who received a cer-
tain amount in 1966.
At the time this challenge was
taken up by the Huron member,
many growers had beans on their
farms which could not be moved,
but shortly after announcing a
drive in this direction, proces-
sors in the county began buying
beans to have processed and
ready for sale.
These beans are being dis-
tributed through the multi-lateral
food program and more orders
are expected through this assoc-
iation. The member for Middle-
sex West, W. H. A. Thomas,
and Jack Irvine, the member for
London, have assisted in this
effort.
