Merner, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Clayton Merner.
home, Thursday, at 2 pm with

of service. Interment will be in
Dashwood Evangelical United
Brethren Cemetery.
MRS. JAMES W. HOWE
Mrs. James Walter Howe, the
former Viola Gertrude Colgan,
71, of 432 Woodman Ave., Lon-
don, passed away at St, Mary's
11:spital, London, Wednesday,
May 10 after a lengthy illness.
Her husband predeceased her in
1961.
Surviving are one daughter
(Betty) Mrs. John Balkwill of
Greensburg, Ind., three Sons,
Stanley F, of Toronto; Malcolm
R. of Winnipeg; J. Lloyd of Lon-
don; sisters, Mrs, Mervina Haz-
elwood and Mrs. Lester (Hen-
rietta) McCurdy of Detroit, Mich;
brothers Lloyd Colgan, Bad Axe,
Mich; James Colgan, Elkton,
Mich; eleven grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held from
the James M. Carrothers and son
Funeral Home, Friday, May 12
with Rev. G. P. Vegan officiating.
Interment was made in Kirkton
Anglican cemetery.

District High School Thursday

ory of the late James Hodgert.
Rev. Stewart and Mrs. Miner
visited in Fordwich Monday. Mrs.
Miner spoke to the CGIT Monday
evening about work with the In-
dians.
MOTHER'S DAY SERVICE
Sunday morning a combined
church service was held, Mr.
Victor Jeffery, superintendent
of the Sunday School, was in
charge of the service.
Misses Judy Mayer and Joanne
Hodgert read the Scriptures.
Mrs. Stewart Miner told the
story. Mrs. Floyd Stewart and
her Sunday School class of girls
also took part.
The rite of baptism was ad-
ministered to Jeffrey William,
son of Mr. and Mrs. William
Jaques of Toronto, Daniel Wayne,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Reid
of Hensall, Cynthia Marlene,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton
Van Alstine of London. Rev,
Stewart Miner gave the message.
Fourteen members of the Hi-C
Group of Beachville along with
their minister, Rev. Harley
Moore, spent Sunday afternoon
with Rev. Stewart and Mrs. Miner.
Dennis Passmore was in charge
of the Mother's Day service as-
sisted by Larry Fulton. Judy
Mayer led in the singsong. Doug-
las Rohde conducted the busi-
ness. A film ‘‘The Bear In The
Road" was also shown.

Huron 4-H Grain Corn club was
held at Crediton with 13 mem-
bers attending. Each was given
seed for his project plots.
The topic of discussion for the
meeting was chemical weed con-
trol of weeds. Many of the new
sprays now available were dis-
cussed.

ented potted plants to the young-
est mother, Mrs. Elgin Kipfer,
and the youngest grandmother,
Mrs, Harry Hoffman, Mr. Brian
Popkey was guest soloist in the
Sunday School and in the morn-
ing worship.
FAMILY P.EUNION
Rey. Louis Dorn, missionary
on furlough from the Philippines,
was guest speaker at Zion Luth-
eran Church Sunday morning. His
wile (the former Erna Koessel)
and family were also present and
some 100 relatives from Dash-
wood and other places gathered
at the Dashwood Community
Centre for supper and a family
reunion.
Following supper friends were
invited to see pictures of their
home life and work in the Phil-
ippines, He also showed pictures
of Jerusalem taken on the way
home.

BANQUET
The Ladies Aid of Zion Luth-
eran Church held their mother
and daughter banquet Friday, May
12 in the form of a pot luck
supper. Group 1 with Mrs. Lorne
Gcnttner convener was in charge.
Joanne Hayter gave a toast to
the mothers replied to by Mrs.
Herb Wein.
Prizes were awarded to the
oldest mother, Mrs. Ed Nadiger;
youngest, Mrs. Carl Keller;
daughter with closest birthday,
Diane Becker. Mrs. Howard
Klumpp showed slides on their
trip to Jamaica also pictures of
local interest. Darlene Rader
played the accordian and Joanne
Hayter, a piano selection.
MRS. DANIEL WEBER
Mrs. Daniel Weber, the former
Maybel Battler, 82, passed away
at South Huron Hospital, Exeter,
Monday, May 15. She and her
late husband farmed in Stephen
township prior to moving to Dash-
wood. She was an active member
of the EUB Church and the WSWS.
Surviving are four daughters,
Mrs. Clarence (Gladys) Schade,
Zurich; Miss Ruth, Red Deer,
Alta; Miss Thelma, London; Mrs.
C. B. (Edith) Carr, St. Jacobs;
three sons, Walter and Ralph of
Stephen township and Keith, Stouf-
fville.
