at the dinner meeting of the Lucan
Lions Club in the Anglican Church
basement last Monday evening.
The date for Ladies Night was
set for Friday April 28, at the
Community Centre. The dinner
will be followed by dancing.
Lion Clare Stanley, a past
president, was congratulated as
the new chairman of zone 24m.
Mr. Stanley went in by acclama-
tion, at a meeting held inPetrolia
Wed. April 12.
At the next meeting, plans will
be discussed for the annual fire-
work display to be held at the
rear of the arena.
Miss Lima Abbott's group of
the Ladies Guild, who catered
for the dinner, spent an anxious
frustrating time, while the power
was off, due to the Hensall
cyclone. However the power came
on in time to complete the dinner.
Wm. F. Dixon
dies in hospital
William Fraser Dixon, 64, a
retired McGillivray farmer died
suddenly in St. Joseph's Hospital
Thursday, April 20. Mr. Dixon
was the son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. John Dixon.
He is survived by his wife,
the former Vernetle Langford,
two daughters, Audrey (Mrs.
Bernard Fitz-Gerald) London,
Jean (Mrs. Gerald Isaac) Bid-
dulph Township; two brothers,
George and Andrew Dixon of
McGillivray Township and five
grandchildren.
Funeral services were con-
ducted by Rev. John G. Davies
of the Ailsa Craig United Church
on Saturday, April 22 at the
Murdy funeral home, Lucan, with
interment in Marr's Hill Ceme-
tery, Brinsley.
Pallbearers included Messrs.
Derwin Beatson, Vincent O'Shea,
Earl Lewis, Karl PickerIng, Tom
Kooey and Earl Dixon.

The Niagara Invitational Skat-
ing Competition drew 170 entries
from Canada and the United
States, Among the entries were,
Miss Latina Karpas of Lucan and
her similar pair, Miss Donna
Murray of Toronto.
These girls have won many
trophies, in the past, but they
found out that one just "can't
win them all," even though Laima
spent some days in Toronto prac-
tising with her friend for the
event.
There were 12 participators in
their entry. The girls came 5th so
they were among the top half at
least.

Cubs invest
new member
Now that hockey is over Cub-
master Mrs. Laura Morgan was
nearly swamped when 29 of the
31 members were present last
Friday night. To make matters
worse it was raining and all
games had to be held inside. So
far Mrs. Morgan has been unable
to secure permanent assistance
and none of the temporary help-
ers were present.
One new boy, Pat Holland, was
invested and Jimmie Thompson
read Lord Baden Powell's last
message. Mrs. Morgan read the
story 14cubby" and quiet games
were played.
Plans were made for a hike
next Saturday, April 30.

Charles Haggar, in the chair and

the worship service.
It was voted to have a dessert
euchre Thursday, April 27 be-
ginning at 2 pm sharp.
A date of June 14 was set for
the church's Centennial supper.
Mrs. Kay Egan was hostess for
the refreshments, which follow-
ed the meeting.

rally and "singspiration" Sat-
urday, held at Thamesville, with
each group participating.
Four carloads from Lucan
were present. Mr. Paul Graham,
sang a solo and was the guest
speaker, giving a talk on the
theme "This Wonderful Christ".

The Abbotts, the Walkers and
the Lattas were in charge of the
program and refreshments for
the April meeting of the Couples'
Club, which took the form of a
bowling party at the Lucan Lanes.
