Or shine. 20 separate meetings of the two groups last week and requires only ratification from London Conference to be put into effect. Rev. Arthur Higginbottom, Walton, chairman of the Huron presbytery, explained that this approval appears to be only a formality. Perth presbytery instigated the move and it provides the main benefits for them, as they are too small for efficient operation. The 16 pastoral c h ar g e s in Perth have found it difficult to carry on the functions of a pres- bytery because of its size, Mem- bers often had to take on a num- ber of committees because there weren't enough persons to fill all the post in the organization. However, Rey. Higginbottom said the move would also be better for Huron in that better commit- tee work can be accomplished. He said to his knowledge it was the first amalgamation Of pre- byteries in London Conference. There are 44 charges and 84 churches in the two groups, and it is expected there may be an amalgamation of some charges which neighbor on the two county borders. A name has not been chosen for the amalgamated presbytery, but Maitland has been suggested. If approved, the amalgamation takes effect January 1, 1968.
