Mr, Frank Hicks returned
home Friday following a.business
trip to Calgary.

Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Fischer
and boys were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. David Whiteford in London
on Sunday, the occasion being
Davie Fischer's first birthday.

Nelson Baker were presented to
the church by Mr. and Mrs. W.
Baker and dedicated in a cere-
mony by the Rev. D. M. Guest
during the service in the United
Church Sunday morning. Mrs.
Baker lit the candles in tribute
to her husband's late parents.

Saturday the spring rally and
banquet of the Stratford District
Youth Fellowship was held in the
EUB Church with about 50 young
people in attendance. Girls from
Sebringville sang both solos and
duets, and the Crediton group
presented a play.
Following the banquet, Rever-
end Harmen Heeg of Bethel Re-
formed Church, Exeter, showed
pictures he had taken in the Holy
Land,
& Mrs. Eugene Finkbeiner and
family, Thornton; Mr. & Mrs.
Dalton Finkbeiner, Mr. & Mrs.
Jack Fuller and family, and Miss
Maleeda Schenk, Exeter; and
Mrs. Beatrice Tate, Hamilton.
Saturday relatives of Mr. &
Mrs. Joe Finkbeiner honoured
them upon the occasion of their
forty-ninth wedding anniversary.
Present at a dinner at the Do-
minion Hotel, Zurich were Mr.

Mr. & Mrs. Ellis Stewart and

guests of Mr. & Mrs. Allen Fink-

Last Thursday evening at
Walkerton Mr. Lawrence Hill en-
joyed the Road 5 perintendents'
banquet sponsored by the Robert
Steele Company. The menu
featured seven kinds of meat.
Messrs Lloyd Hey and Lorne
Voigt attended the Maple Syrup
Festival at Elmira Saturday. So
great were the c r owds on the
highway that it required nearly
two hours to drive from Kitchener
to Elmira. Visitors were present
from as far away as Lexington,
Kentucky. Mr. Hey brought home
a purchase of caraway-flavoured
cheese.
Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Ratz and
Mr. Albert G.iser were in Tor-
onto Saturday and Sunday to attend
the golden wedding celebration of
Mr. & Mrs. Claud Fleury. They
also visited Mr. & Mrs. Fred
Kerstein and Mr. & Mrs. Ra'
Collett.
Mr. & Mrs. Wallace Pfaff of
Rodney were guests at the home
of Mr. & Mrs. Alf Tilley.
MESSENGERS MEET
The Messengers met Sunday
morning. Karen Skinner led the
worship service. A story "The
Missing Words" was told by
Mrs. Harvey Smith. A reading
"The Sunbeam and the Brook"
was given by Brian Hicks.

the Staffa Women's Institute in
Staffa Hall Friday evening, March
31. Music for dancing was pro-
vided by The Norris Orchestra
and cam Harmer was the floor
manager.

Burial services for the late
Mrs. Patrick Gooding, 89, for-
mer Louise Geromette of Park-
hill, took place in Mt. Carmel
Wednesday. She had been a pat-
ient at Ailsa Craig Nursing home
for the past month.

A large crowd of interested
people were in attendance in the
Family Life Centre of the Staffa
United Church Monday evening
when the session of the local
United and Presbyterian church-
es were host to an evening of
talks and panel discussions on the
part the church plays in educa-
tion.
Rev. Bert Daynard was chair-
man for the evening and introduc-
ed the guest speaker, Robert
Bornhold, area superintendent of
elementary schools.
Bob Norris was then introduced
and brought everyone up to date
on the present local school sys-
tem.
The audience was divided into
small groups for a discussion
period and then each group pre-
sented a question of interest to
the panel who were:
Mrs. Irene Haugh, Teacher at
Usborne Central School; A. Math-
ers, principal at Stanley-Tucker-
smith central school; B. Norris,
chairman of Hibbert Fullarton
and Logan school area board;
Robert Boyce, Inspector for
Perth County Elementary
schools.

It was decided to again donate
the annual trophy for high single
for the Lucan Ladies' Bowling
Team, at the April meeting of
the Legion Auxiliary in the Le-
gion Hall, last Tuesday, Presid-
ent A. E. Reilly presided.
Plans were finalized for the
Young-McAuley wedding banquet,
April 8. A bowling banquet in
May was accepted. Mrs. Harold
Butler won the mystery prize.

Mrs. Ed. Chappel was hostess
for the March meeting of the
Staffa Women's Institute held in
the Township Hall Wednesday,
March 29. The meeting was pre-
ceded with a pot luck dinner and
two quilts for the War Memorial
Hospital were quilted in the after-
noon.
Miss Vera Hambly presided
and presented an interesting
paper on the motto "To take the
drudgery out of work, put your
heart into it." There were 20
members and four visitors pres-
ent. The roll call was answered
by quoting a price of some com-
modity at the beginning of this
century.
Mrs. Russell Warden gave an
interesting account by word and
picture of their trip to the West
coast in 1966 going by the Cana-
dian route and coming home
through the USA.
Mrs. Carter Kerslake presided
for the business. The nominating
committee for the annual meet-
ing in April are Mrs. Gordon
Hoggarth, Mrs. Ross Smale and
Mrs. Lloyd Miller. Everyone is
asked to bring their reports and
their pennies for friendship to
this meeting.
