The United Church Women held
a successful pioneer dinner Wed-
nesday, April 5.
The tea tables very artistic-
ally arranged in old tyme decor
with coal oil lamps flanked with
mums were the main attractions,
the old tyme costumes were very
colorful, and the girls who waited
on tables, were dressed in
pioneer costumes. Two hundred
and forty were served.
A program arranged by Mrs.
James McAllister, who also
presided, included a sing-song
directed by Miss Greta Lammie,
a pageant "A Salute to Canada"
by the Brownies; a quartette
by Sam Rennie, Ron Mock, Harry
Horton, Harry Hoy; solos by Mrs.

The Easter Thank-offering
meeting of UCW Unit 4 was held
Thursday afternoon with an at-
tendance of twenty seven, Mrs.
James McAllister, leader, pres-
ided and presented the devotional
on "The Ascension and its mean-
ing".
The study, on The United Em-
pire Loyalists and what they
had to do with present-day rel-
igion was given by Mrs. Fred
Beer. Miss Greta Lammie fav-
oured with a piano solo.
As there is more quilting to
be done it was decided to re-
serve Tuesday, April 18 for this
project. The General meeting
will be held Monday, April 24,
with unit 2 in charge.
During the social hour Mrs.
E. Rowe and her helpers served
tea. Mrs. R. J. Paterson was
hostess for this meeting.

Eight members attended the
UCW meeting in the church SS
rooms Wednesday evening with.
Mrs. Alton Neil and Mrs. Gordon
Johnson as hostesses. The theme
was "Forgive us our debts".
Mrs. Neil was in charge of the
worship service with Mrs. Fink-
beiner assisting.
Mrs. Wm French presided over
the business part of the meeting.
Invitations were received from
Woodham UCW to attend a Cen-
tennial meeting Tuesday eve n-
ing, April 11, also from Cen-
tralia UCW to a Centennial
Blossom Tea in May. There were
several discussions including the
closing service of Whalen United
Church May 21.

Robert Mickle, a SHDHS grad-
uate, son of Mr. and Mrs. Laird
Mickle, Hensall, has been award-
ed a scholarship valued at$3,500
from the National R e sear ch
Council. He plans to further his
studies in the field of science at
UWO, leading to his Master's
Degree in Physics.

Amber Rebekah Lodge met
Wednesday, April 5 with Noble
Grand Mrs. Lindsay Eyre pres-
iding. District Deputy President
Miss Jean Scott of Seaforth made
her official annual spring visit,
and spoke on "The Meaning Of
The Three Links".
Two Past Noble Grands were
appointed to attend the Assembly
Session in Toronto in June.
The District meeting will be
held in Seaforth April 12 in the
afternoon, all Noble Grands to
attend. A few games of bingo
were played and lunch served.
Raise $221
on canvass
Mrs. Evelyn Carroll of God-
erich, Zone Commander, paid
her official visit to the Hensall
Legion Ladies Auxiliary April
meeting, Tuesday evening, April
4 and was introduced by presi-
dent Mrs. Harold Campbell who
chaired the meeting.
The meeting was informed that
$221.85 had been collected in
the recent canvass of the village
for the Red Cross. Plans were
outlined for the annual Penny
Sale to be held in May, euchre
party April 20 and Zone Rally
at Kincardine May 17.
Mrs. Wm Smale won the mys-
tery and guessing prizes. A pen-
ny sale conducted by Mrs. Garnet
Allan and Mrs. Grant McClinchey
realized a nice sum of money.

Branderhorst, bride-elect of this
month, was held at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Klungel,
