years of faithful service, as cotin-
cillor, maintenance man and fire
chief.
Mr. young was born near Wing-
ham, 68 years age, and worked
in garages in Western Ontario,
during his younger days. lie op-
erated his own garage and ser-
vice station in Belgrave for 18
years, prior to 1943, when he
purchased and moved with his
wife, three sons and four daugh-
ters into a large house on Alice
St. where a number of his family
Married. Eight years ago he
moved to his present smaller
house on Main St, north.
He entered the village council
in 1949 but resigned in 1951,
to take the position of mainten-
ance man for the village looking
after roads, drains and water-
works -day and night,
He was also fire chief of the
Lucan volunteer fire department
and as such, often lost much
time and sleep in attempts to
put out many fires which threat-
ened the whole village - but he
and his volunteers got them out

Mr. Dave Sheppard left Mon-
day for a three week tour of Eng-
land, Ireland, the British Isles
and Europe.

In April last year, Mr. young
resigned as superintendent of the
Hydro Commission and March 15,
of this year, he tendered his
resignation as maintenance man,
much to the regret of the whole
village. His successor is Mr.
Bert Thompson,
Wednesday's activities began
with a card party. Although 14
tables were filled with players,
yet many other guests just sat
around and chatted.
High score prizes went to Mrs.
Jack Lankin (on a draw) and Mr.
Jim Davis, lone hand prizes to
Mrs. Rose Atkinson and Mr.
Bert Thompson and low score
prizes to Mrs. Bert Thompson
and Mr. Earle Haskett.
Mr. and Mrs. Young were then
given chairs on the stage, where
Reeve Mrs. A. E. Reilly was MC
for the presentations: a cheque
by Biddulph Reeve, Wilson Hod-
gins on behalf of the Fire Area;
a study lamp by Mr. Harold Cor-
bett on behalf of the Hydro Com-
mission; an occasional chair by
mr. Clare Stanley, on behalf of
the Lucan Volunteer Fire Depart-
ment; wrist watch and purse of
money by M r. Bernard Avery
from the village council; electric
knife by Mr. Milton Mathers,
London's fire chief, on behalf of
the Middlesex Mutual Aid; bou-
quet of roses by Dianne Corbett
for Mrs. Young from the village
council; Mr. Allan Scott read
and presented an amusing cer-
tificate entitled "The Master of
the House".
Mr. Young on behalf of him-
self and Mrs. Young thanked all
for the many gifts received. Re-
freshments were served.

Hi C members met last Sunday
evening. Leroy Maguire presided
and Marilyn Hearn, Jim Hearn
and Daisy Cobleigh were in
charge of the worship service.
Most of the business session
was spent in finalizing plans for
the dance at the Com munit y
Centre April '7 to raise funds
for the support of the branch's
orphan. It was decided not to
check coats this year.
DEMOLITION CONTINUES
Demolition on the Stanley Block
continues. The opera house is now
no more and little left of the
former Radcliffe Drugs. Work-
men are now working on the old
post office.

Mr. & Mrs. Wm Jenkins have
returned from a fortnight's visit
to Kingston.
1RCR advance party arrived
Monday morning from Cyprus.
The unit will come by air on the
13th and will be met by relatives
and families at the Camp. The
Queen's own Rifles of Calgary
will replace them.
The recent flash floods over
the weekend again reached peak
levels in the Klondyke.

Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Butler of
Toronto were weekend guests of
Mr. & Mrs. H. B, Langford. Mr.
Langford, who has been on the
sick list for some 10 days is
improving. Having to miss all
last week's hockey games didn't
add to his peace of mind.
Mrs. Jack Murray of London,
her daughter, Miss Delores
nurse-in-training at Toronto and
Mrs. Lorne McDonald of Sea-
forth, were Sunday guests of
Mrs. J. R. Murray.
Carla Revington spent part of
her Easter vacation with her
grandparents, Mr. & Mrs.
Sheridan Revington and Tuesday
accompanied her grandmother
and Mrs. Jack Marshall to visit

ert McDonald of the US army,
this weekend.
Mrs. Jack Dickens spent a
couple days in Chatham last week,
attending a Simpsons-Sears Sales
meeting, at the Holiday Inn.
Mr. & Mrs. Phil Brooks and
family of Toronto were weekend
guests of Mr. & Mrs. Calvin
Haskett.
Mr. Erwin Scott, who has been
on the sick list for some time is
now a patient in St. Joseph's
Hospital.
Last Tuesday evening, seven
members of the LucanJr. Farm-
ers' executive met at the home
of Mr. John Langford to make
plans for the next regular meeting
to be held at the Maple Lodge
Community Centre, Tuesday,
April 4 when the guest speaker
will be Mr. Gordon Brackett of
the Humane Society.
Mrs. Rufus Thompson has re-
turned home from a week's visit
with Owen Sound relatives. While
there she attended the 25th wed-
ding anniversary of her brother-
in-law and sister, Mr. & Mrs.

tieing to sing in a special choir
at St. Paul's Cathedral on Sun-
day.
Mrs. A. E. Shilton of Guelph,
is visiting Sgt. & Mrs. Henry
Mooney and family.
Mrs. Clarence Hardy of Lucan
and Miss Bette Leake of Sudbury
