Mr. Gordon Johnson has been confined to the house for sev- eral days having stepped on a fork while in the barn and pierced a vein in his foot. Liberal leader attends nomination More than 200 enthusiastic Liberals from Huron county attended last week's nomination convention in Hensall at which time Dr. Morgan Smith of Hayfield was selected to represent Hurorrriding in the next provincial election. FRANK SQUIRE WHALEN Whalen community gathered at the Community Centre SaturdaY for a social evening, Cecil Squire was, MC for a program which consisted of a reading by Mrs. Gerald Hern; piano solo, Mary Johnson; electric guitar solo, Donald Neil and a contest by Mrs. Laverne Morley. Mr. & Mrs. Ross Duffield and Mr. & Mrs. Jas. Bettger Kitchen- er nee (Helen Heather) were the honored newly wed guests for the evening. Both couples were called on and Carol Johnson read an address and Mr. & Mrs. Bettger were presented with a coffee and end tables. Douglas Squire read an address and Mr. & Mrs. Duffield were presented with a swivel rocking chair and foot- stool. Both couples expressed their thanks and lunch was served. EUCHRE Mr. & Mrs. Wm. French were hosts for the Euchre Tuesday evening at the Community Centre. Six tables were playing. Prizes for ladies high went to Janice Morley; men's high, Wm. Morley; lone hands, Gerald Wallis; consolation, Donald Neil. Following the party all went to chivari the newlyweds, Mr. & Mrs. Ross Duffield and returned to the Community Centre for lunch. spent the weekend with her grand- parents, Mr. & Mrs. Heber Davis. Mr. Wayne Carroll returned home from Winnipeg Sunday. He spent the past week visiting Mr. & Mrs. Tex Maxted and family. Mr. & Mrs. Earl Greenlee, Larry and Leslie were guests Sunday with the former's par- ents, Mr. & Mrs. Raymo nd Greenlee, Exeter. Master Jeffrey Young, Lucan, spent the holidays with Mr. & Mrs. Earl Greenlee, Mr. & Mrs. Jim Barker and Mr. & Mrs. Heber Davis. Several ladies from this com- munity attended the tea and an- tique demonstration at St. Paul's Church, Kirkton, and the Cen- tennial Rose Dessert Euchre at Trivitt Memorial, Exeter, Wed- nesday afternoon. Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Davis, Heath- er and Michael were guests Sun- day evening with Mr. & Mrs. Pete Sovereign and boys, Lucan. Mr. & Mrs. Maurice MacDonald were guests also. Mr. & Mrs. Ron Carroll enter- tained Sunday in honor of their son Ian, who was celebrating his birthday. Schaefer introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Cy Cline of St. Marys who gave a very interesting talk on antiques and showed some of his own collec- tion. Mrs. S.
