Lady curlers
finish draw
Regular play has been com-
pleted in the third draw of the
Exeter ladies curling club and
only one rink was able to come
through the schedule with a per-
fect record.
Dorothy Marks led her four-
some that includes Helen Coates,
Elaine Pinder and Debbie Newby
to the Wednesday title and will
receive a bye into the finals.
The best in Tuesday afternoon
play, a rink skipped by Shirley
Davidson, will be meeting Thurs-
day's winners, headed by Marg
Murley in a semi-final match
early this week.
Monday afternoon members of
the local ladies club entertained
a similar group from CFB Cen-
tralia for some friendly curling.
Each rink was composed of two
members from each club.
Helen Webber and Agnes Bray
of the host club joined with Marg
Barkley and Phyllis Grant of
Centralia in winning the top prize.

A pair of Grand Bend minor
hockey teams are making good
showings in the playoffs of the
North Lambton hockey league
and in exhibition play S u nd ay
scored convincing wins over
clubs from Dearborn, Michigan.
In pee wee action, the Grand
Bend boys outplayed their Ameri-
can opposition from start to fin-
ish to ring up a 4-1 win, while
the bantams were on the right
side of a 4-2 score in a well
played contest.
David Kemp, Dwight Jennison,
Jim Kennedy and Peter Black
picked up the Grand Bend pee
wee goals with assists going to
Jack Stanlake, Harry Smith and
Kemp.
Scott Jackson led the GB bant-
am scorers with a pair of tallies
while Doug Jennison and Kyle
Harrison chipped in with singles.
In Lambton playoff action, the
summer resort pee wees coached
by Al Kemp downed Forest 7-5
in a two game total goals series
and will be meeting Kettle Point
In Thedford, Saturday at 1:00
in the first game of the next
round.
Ken Freebairn's bantams
eliminated Ailsa Craig 5-1 in a
similar series and take on Bos-
anquet in Thedford, Saturday at
2 o'clock.

BOWLING SCOR
Last Saturday was the last
game of the Pee Wee semi-
finals, The Maple Leafs defeated
the Canadiens 4-2 on the strength
of three goals by Perry Stover
and a single by Doug Miners.
John Musser and Steve Har-
rison were the marksmen for the
Canadiens.
This Saturday the final series
starts with the Maple Leafs meet-
ing the Red Wings in a best-of-
three championship. Game time
is 9:00 am.
The Rangers defeated Boston
in Novice hockey by a score of
2-0. Ricky Stagg and Brian Pen-
hale each scored a goal.
Seven goals were scored in
Mite hockey on Saturday in a
real good game. Paul Pooley and
Billy Wilson each scored two with
Perry Pooley, Laurie Skinner
and Brad Roelofson adding one
goal each.
Saturday morning hockey will
continue for at least two more
weeks with a possibility of going
longer.
The Bantams and Midgets have
advanced to the Shamrock finals
with the bantams playing Lam-
beth and the midgets playing

Stoneybrook. Both series are 2-
out-of-3.
The Jr. Hawks are doing ex-
tremely well and it looks as
though they can win the series
with Dresden. We have nothing
official as yet but expect the next
series will be with Leamington.
On Tuesday, March 28, the
Lake Huron Zone Recreation
Minor Hockey Tournament will
be held here at Exeter.
Starting time is 9 am and games
will continue on through to 5
o'clock with a total of 8 games
being played.
If you have time on your hands
on Tuesday drop up to the arena.

Area curlers
end season
A banquet was held last week
honoring winners in the local
Curlerama, an annual event spon-
sored by local Massey-Ferguson
dealer Harry Sherwood.
Mrs. Harry Strang, president
of the Exeter ladies curling club,
along with Sherwood and Bill
Cann were in charge of the event.
Two draws for male competi-
tors were held during the year
and one ladies series. A rink
skipped by Lee Webber that in-
cluded Gerd McCarter, Ross
Hodgert and Lloyd Ballantyne
were overall champions defeat-
ing Harry Dougall's foursome
consisting of R e g Schroeder,
Winston Shapton and Bill Mor-
ley.
Copping the ladies' prize was
a rink comprising Dorothy
Coates, Dolores Shapton, Dor-
othy Elder and skip GPrry
Gregus.

Pair of upsets
in Legion darts
Two of the top six clubs during
the regular schedule of the Exeter
Legion mixed dart league were
eliminated in the first round of
the playoffs.
The Itchy Four, who finished
in second place, a scant point
back of the league winning Hair-
pins were dumped by the Le-
gionnaires and the fifth place
Featherflights were ousted by
the Four B's, tenth place fin-
ishers.
Other teams surviving the
first round were the Hairpins,
Dart Sharks, Cleaners and Can-
ners.
Although it came too late to
qualify for a trophy that is con-
fined to league play, a one game
score of 158 turned in by Note
Smith of the Bluebirds was the
highest of the season for ladies.

in Hensall play
The Hensall curling club com-
pleted its activities for the cur-
rent year with a social evening
March 14 when the various
trophies were presented.
Winning the Middleton trophy
along with the second draw was a
rink comprising Harold and Marg
Knight and Fran and Bill Mickle
with the latter as skip.
The Goodwin trophy award went
to Ray and Marg Consitt and Bob
and Marlene Bell.
Other trophy winners are as
follows: First draw, Bob Gem-
mel, Jack Consitt, Doug Cook
and Bob McLaughlin; Third draw,
J. and W. Skea and W. and K. Bell;
fourth draw, S. and I. Rennie and

five goal effort.
Both goalies, Jim Glavin of
Crediteh, and Glen Stire Of the
Old Timers, turned in solid per-
formances in a game that stress::
ed .OffenSive play.
