GRAND BEND
The evening unit of the Grand
Bend UCW Met Tuesday evening
with visitors from the Church of
God and the Anglican Church in
attendance.
Miss Audrey Finkbeiner was
geest speaker and showed pic-
tures of her work in St. Lucia.
Miss Finitheiner was introduced
by Mrs. Robert Keyes and Mrs.
Louise Wilson thanked her and
presented her with a gift.
The opening devotion was given
by Mrs. Alan Hemmingway as-
sisted by Mrs. Douglas Dawe.
Mrs. Robert Keyes presided
for the business, Mrs. G, E,
Morrow gave a report of the
UCW Presbyterial,
Lunch was served by Mrs,
Glen DesJardine, Mrs. Jim Love,
Mrs. E. Bestard and Mrs. Art
Heist.

UCW MEETS
The UCW afternoon unit held
its March meeting in the church
schoolroom with twenty-five
ladies present. Mrs. Allan Mil-
ler conducted the opening wor-
ship assisted by Mrs. Garnet
Patterson. Her theme was "The
Cross". Mrs. Miller sang a solo
accompanied by Mrs. Clarke
Kennedy at the piano.
Mrs. Harold Walper gave study
book chapter on “The Church
Grows in Canada".
Mrs, Alex Hamilton presided
for the business. A number of
articles were on display for the
leprosy mission but will be held
over till the April meeting. Mrs.
Hamilton announced the General
Meeting on March 21 with Green-
way ladies leading in worship
and program, also White Cross
luncheon on Good Friday.
Lunch was served by Mrs. Ed
Turnbull and Mrs. Raymond Kad-
ing.

included a piano selection by Mrs.
Tom Campbell, a topic on Wood-
ham and the Jim Miller family
given by Mrs. Jim Miller and a
trio of Mrs, Howard Pyrn, Mrs.
William Morley, and Mrs. Jud
Dykeman in impromptu numbers.
President Mrs, Gilbert Johns
conducted the business when a
dessert euchre was planned for
Wednesday March 15 at 2 pm in
the Hall. Mrs. T. Creery was
named a delegate for one day to
the National Convention in Guelph
June 12-16. Mrs. Clifton Jaques
reported on the progress of the
float committee and the centen-
nial spoons to be sold to members
for one dollar were discussed.

plan for events
At the meeting of the Hospital
Auxiliary Tuesday afternoon,
plans were finalized for the
spring rummage sale to be held
Saturday, April 8 in Exeter
Legion Hall with pick-up on Fri-
day.
Plans for the Centennial Tea
being held at the hospital April
30 were discussed. A display of
antiques especially in medical
or nursing equipment will be
shown. This event is being dir-
ected by the centennial committee
which includes Mrs. Elmer Bell,
Mrs. M. L. Geiser, Mrs. A.
Whilsmith, Mrs. Jack Doerr,
Mrs. R. C. Dinney, Mrs. J. G.
Dunlop and Mrs. M. C. Fletcher.
Part of the equipment which
the Auxiliary are purchasing for
the hospital has arrived and more
is on order.

Mr. and Mrs. William Fergus-
on, Exeter, celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary Tuesday,
March 14 with a family dinner at
the Dominion Hotel, Zurich. They
also held Open House at their
home Saturday af ter noon and
evening when 250 guests re-
gistered. Decorations were in
white and gold motif.
Mrs. Ferguson is the former
Rosenna Bruce of Blanshard
Township and their marriage was
solemnized in the parsonage at
Kirkton by Rev. H. S. O'Kell.

at James Street
A display of antiques was a
feature of the meeting of James
Street UCW unit 3 in the church
Monday evening.
Mrs. D. A. Ecker showed pic-
tures of the centennial service
held in James Street Church in
January, Mrs. R. C. Dinney gave
a report of Huron Presbyterial
UCW held in Wingham.
Mrs. Gerald Godbolt, group
leader was assisted in the wor-
ship service by Mrs. Charles
Kernick, Mrs. Glen Mickle, Mrs.
Eugene Beaver, Mrs. Andy Doug-
all and Mrs. W. C. Allison.
Ross Huff favored with a
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lammie
visited Tuesday of last week
with friends in Halton and rel-
atives in Toronto.
Miss Wilda Pollock of Kitchen-
er was a weekend guest with
her sister, Mrs. Lorne Hicks.
Saturday they visited with their
sister and brother-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Bert Walden in Kin-
cardine.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shoebottom
Danny and Mary, Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Shoebottom, Miss Ann

attended the 25th wedding an-
niversary celebration of Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon Shoebottom at Bal-
lymote on Saturday night.
Visitors with Mr. and Mrs,
Wm Haddock during the past
week were Mrs. John McAllister,
Thursday afternoon and Mr, and
Mrs. Gordon Baynham of Exeter
on Sunday.
There were no attendants. Fol-
lowing their rnarria.ge they farm-
ed near Varna for three years,
then to Usborne Township where
they resided until moving to Ex-
eter nine years ago.
Both in their '74th year they
enjoy good health and are in-
terested in the current events of
the day. They have three sons
Norman and Roy, Exeter, Wil-
mer, Hensall; one daughter, Mrs.
Oliver Jaques, Hensall, fifteen
grandchildren and five great-
grandchildren.
