in the Community Centre Friday
evening. Six tables were at play.
Prizes for ladies high went to
Mrs. McLeod Mills; men's high,

Morley; consolation, Brian Hod-
gson.

Hamilton Saturday attending an
operatic concert sponsored by the
Latvian Relief Society. Mrs. Beit-
an's sister Mrs. Villis Kalmins,
Detroit, took part in the concert.

reside on Huron St. St. Marys.

KIPPEN
The Kippen 4-H Club girls held
their first meeting at the home
of their leader Mrs. Robert Gem-
mell.
The election of officers was
held. President is Donna White-
house; vice-president, Gwen Mc-
Lean; floating secretary, Donna
Stoll; telephone girls, Barbara
Gem mell and Diane McKay; press
reporter, Marilyn Durst,
Mrs. Gemmell demonstrated
blueberry buckle with lemon
sauce and Donna Whitehouse and
Donna Stoll made succotash. Mrs.
Ken McKay, the assistant leader
discussed the history of early
Canada and its food also working
methods then and now.
2ND MEETING
The Kippen 4-H club girls held
their second meeting at the home
of the assistant leader, Mrs.
Ken McKay. Roll call was
answered by "Name a Canadian
food used by early settlers."
Mrs. Gemmell demonstrated
tourtiere and Mrs. McKay made
grandperes. Mrs. McKay dis-
cussed the "Food Guide for
Health" also foods of N e w
France.
An exchange of traditional fam-
ily recipes took place.

Mrs. Norman Hardy and Mrs.
Harold Hardy are leaders of the
Clandeboye 4-H homemaking club
for the new project A World of
Food in Canada.
Saturday the girls met at the
leader's home. Officers were
elected. President is Carol Tre-
vithick; secretary, Betty Scott;
treasurer, Nancy Hardy. Other
members are Mrs. Douglas
Thompson, Misses Hazel and
Helen Simpson, Helen and Joan
Lewis, Carolyn and SusanHardy,
Margo Rollings, Joan Donaldson
and Merna Carter.
Mrs. Norman Hardy demon-
strated the making of Blueberry
Buckle and Mrs. Harold Hardy
told of early days in Canada.
SHOWER FOR BRIDE
A shower was held for Mrs.
Terence Curran, the former Miss
Elizabeth Maines, at the home of
her parents Mr. and Mrs. Gord-
on Maines last week, at Russel-
dale, RR 1 Mitchell.
Mrs. Ralph Lynn acted as
hostess and organized contests.
Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Clar-
ence Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Mau-
rice Simpson, Mrs. Emily
Tomes, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lynn

men enjoyed cards while the la-
dies enjoyed the contests, with
refreshments later.
CARL RITCHIE
Carl Ritchie, '72, Baden area
school teacher for more than 30
years died at Kitchener-Water-
loo Hospital, Saturday, March 4.
He was born at Parkhill, June
30, 1894. In 1940 he moved to
Baden where he taught school
until he retired in 1959. A mem-
ber of Livingstone Presbyterian
Church, he was an elder of the
church and a clerk of the ses-
sion. He was a member of the
Masonic lodge where he was
past district secretary, and for
15 years was secretary of the
Baden lodge.
He is survived by his second
wife, the former Ethel Hunsber-
ger, whom he married in 1956;
three daughters, Mrs. Robert
(Jean) Hunter, Virgil; Mrs. Jam-
es (Miriam) Johnston, Ottawa;
Mrs. Donald (Shirley) Lawrence,
London; a brother, William,
Parkhill; a sister, Mrs. Wilfred
Cunningham of Clandeboye; and
six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
in Livingstone church Baden,
conducted by Rev. L. S. VanMos-
sel on Tuesday March 7. A Ma-
sonic service was held at the

Ormand funeral home, Monday

chapel, Baden. Burial will be
made in Parkhill cemetery later.

Mrs. Arnold Blake arrive d
home Saturday March 4 from St.
Joseph's Hospital. She went to
hospital January 11 and had sur-
gery.
Mr. Harold Lynn went Monday,
February 27, toSt. Joseph's Hos-
pital for an operation.
Mr. Charlie Coughlin is im-
proving. He had an operation last
week on his foot. He was taken to
St. Joseph's Hospital February 26
when he had an accident at home
and his foot was caught in an
auger when feeding the cattle at
the barn.
Mrs. Jennie Wilson and son
Mr. Clare Wilson of Detroit visit-
ed during the weekend with Mrs.
E. Moore and Mr. & Mrs. T. L.
Scott.
Mr. David Scott, student at
University of Western Ontario
spent the weekend with his par-
ents, Mr. & Mrs. T. L. Scott.
Mr. Roger Dow returned home
Saturday after having accompa-
nied his mother Mrs. Annie Dow
on a plane trip to Florida where
Mrs. Dow will visit for some
time with friends.

as guest speaker showed a film
named "Valleys and People". It
is the story of the accomplish-
ments of the Conservation Auth-
orities throughout Ontario and is
very interesting. Three quarters
of the population of Ontario bene-
fit from the work of these auth-
orities, Mr. McCauley said. He
held a session of questions and
answers.
The next meeting will be held
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Her-
man Powe.
