"the man" in Winchelsea known
as Grandfather Andrew,
In 1854 a school house was
built at Winchelsea and George
Andrew opened a Sunday School.
He assumed the leadership of
the flock partly because he was
better educated than the others,

judge, although his only quali-
fications were his sense of equity
and the trust in which he was
held by his people.
Later Grandfather Andrew took
the people to a lot purchased
from John Vail for $1.00. Here
they built a log church, made
provisions for a cemetery, and
called it Slim.
