The response for clothing and furnishings
for the Jim Miller family who lost all their
belongings when their house in Biddulph
township burned to the ground, Frldayhas
been excellent. The family of twelve have
moved into a house on Alice street In
Lucan, thanke to the co-operation of the
Lucan Legion. In the above picture, Mr. and
Mrs. Miller check through the many items
of clothing they received while a.portionof
their family, Arnold, Gordon, Georgina,
Patricia and Bobby are busy with new toys.

Friday evening Cub master
Mrs. Laura Morgan, held a par-
ticularly successful m e et in g,
with 23 Cubs present. Up to this,
all her assistance has been of an
amateur nature, but Friday night
two Exeter residents (who prefer
to remain anonymous) when in-
quiring about camp, found she was
carrying on alone offered their
services, One taught semaphore,
the other knot-tying and both told
interesting stories.
Three Cubs brought in soap
carving projects, towards their
tawning star. Dyrek Dykeman
brought in four, his brother Shane
two and Jimmie Hodgins one.
Jimmie's carving of a speckle
trout received special commen-
dation.
After the boys left, Mrs. Mor-
gan and her guests, made plans
to attend the camp meeting at
Ailsa Craig on February 20, after
first accepting Cub master Don
McAlpine's invitation to visit his
Ailsa Craig pack before attending
the camp meeting.

been an oil heater, No one was
at home. Mr, and Mrs. Miller,
Arnold 2 1/2, Georgina 4, and
Diana 5, were at the Lucan laun-
dromat, Gordon 14, Hill 12, Patty
11 and Michael 10 were at the
Biddulph Central School and Bob-
by 9, Charles 8 and Kathy 6 at
the Lucan school,
nated a truck to make the de-
livery.
The Canadian Red Cross do-
nated shoes for all the family
and the Lucan Lions provided a
$50 food voucher.
Help also came from Exeter,
Centralia and district farmers.
Lucan President, Pat Crudge
reports a splendid donation of
furniture, dishes and clothing
have already been received.
Prior to moving to their late
frame home, the Miller family
lived in a brick cottage beside
the Lucan P.O.
By the time the Lucan Fire
Department arrived at the scene
of the fire It was too late to
save anything. The cause of the

of the RoyalCa.nadian Legion, as-
sisted by the Duchess of Kent,
London Branch, spent a busy
weekend, providing a home, fur-
niture and clothing for the James
Miller family who lost their home
and all their belongings by fire
Friday.
Their home was located in
Biddulph Township and was on a
farm owned by Elmore McBride,
Exeter.
Mr. and Mrs. Miller were away
at the time of the blaze and the
cause remains undetermined.
A house on Alice Street, Lucan,
being vacated over the weekend
was secured and rent and fuel for
a month were paid by the Lucan
Legion for the unemployed father
of 10 children, ranging in age
from 2 1/2 tp 14 years.
Mr. Miller intended tip look for
a job as a farm hand in the Simcoe
area before the fire. Formerly
he was an airman at CFB Cen-
tralia and a truck driver.
Because of bad weather Sat-
urday, donations for the family
were stored in London until Sun-
