Churches combine
for prayer service
BEANS
Once again members of
Lucan's churches paused on the
threshold of Canada's centennial
year to hold joint "Week of
Prayer" services.
• The first service was held in
the Pentecostal Holiness Church
Tuesday evening with the pastor,
the Rev. Gordon McDonald in
charge. Rev. E. 0. Lancaster of
the Anglican Church was the
guest speaker and Mr. Paul Gra-
ham led in the music and sang a
duet with Mrs. John Armitage.
The second service was in the
United Church, with the pastor,
the Rev. G. W. Sach, In charge.
Rev. Gordon McDonald as guest
speaker, first spoke to the large
group of CGIT who, with their
leaders, occupied several seats
in the centre of the church, then
later he preached a sermon on
the text, "Behold I make all
things new."
Members from the Anglican
Evening Auxiliary also attended
in a body.
The last meeting was held in
the Anglican Church Wednesday
Festive feasts
failed to fatten
The first 1967 TOPS meeting,
after a holiday of two weeks, was
held at the home of Mrs. Wayne
Hockey last Thursday evening.
Owing to sickness only six of
the eight members were present.
After the weighing in, all were
surprised and delighted to find
the holiday festivities had had
little or no effect. In fact there
was a total loss of nearly 10 lbs.
with the "Queen" losing seven
lbs. No one member had gained
sufficient to be given a little
pink pig to take home.
The crowning of the Queen will
be held in the Central Hotel
dining room January 26, for which
plans were finalized. A drive is
being made for new members.
Join—lose weight—and have fun.

evening, when the rector, the
Rev. E. 0. Lancaster was as-
sisted by the Rey. G. W. Sach,
who led in prayer and the Rev.
Gordon McDonald who read the
Scripture lesson.
The guest speaker was the
Rev. J. A. Thompson, secretary
of the Bible Society, who gave an
address on the theme, "Look
what the world has come to—
and what has come to the world".
The offering, $34.85, from the
three services will go to the
Bible Society.
Girls compete
at baseball test
The Lucan-Clandeboye CGIT
met in the UC schoolroom last
Wednesday evening. The date for
the May pole Tea was set for
Saturday, May 6. The members
voted to turn the tea into a
centennial tea.
To replenish the branch's low
fund it was decided to stage a
bake sale in the Cochrane store
January 14.
The girls were then divided
into groups. The "Invincible 13"
continued their study of the mir-
acles of Jesus while the "Almost
Angels" and "Middy Maids" un-
ited for a Biblical baseball game
based on the first journey of
St. Paul.
Afterwards the group went up
to the church to join in the
second Week of Prayer Service.
