ONE OF A SERIES
OF CENTENNIAL REPORTS Clandeboye ladies choose slate
It's
ours!
By R. E. POOLEY
Chairman, Exeter Centennial
Committee
When you and I have some-
thing together, it becomes
"Ours". Let us think of 1967
in this way. Our Nation —Our
One Hundredth Birthday!
Most of our early settlers
were English, Irish, Scottish and
French, While remembering
them, we would not forget those
thrifty people who spoke Ger-
man, and many smaller groups
from other lands.
Together, we have built a Na-
tion one of which we have rea-
son to be proud. True — we have
made mistakes in the building,
but the foundation is solid.
Anything built on love and con-
cern for other people, with whom
we live and do business has to be
strong.
If we are proud of this achieve-
ment, let us ask ourselves what
we can do to help make our dif-
ferent Centennial celebrations a
success.
Two weeks ago, Terry McCaul-
ey outlined the work we have
done and are planning to do. At
this time, we wish to tell you
what our committee was sup-
posed to do.
In the Spring of 1964, when
we were appointed, we were ask-
ed to supervise the spending of
more than $9,000.00 for the bene-
fit of the people of Exeter.
This money was donated by the
following: Lions' Club, $1000;
Kinsmen Club, $1000; Exeter Le-
gion $800 and $200 from the Town
of Exeter, plus grants.
We received grants of $3000
each from the Federal and Pro-
vincial governments, bringing the
total to $9000.
The money was allocated to
three committees, one fro m
Lions, Kinsmen and Legion.
When we have our official open-
ing of the improved Riverview
Park in July 1967, you will be
able to see what has been ac-
complished by these committees
as a whole.
We were also expected to help
arrange continuing Centennial
celebrations during the whole of
1967. We believe this matter is
well in hand; but we are still
open for suggestions and can use
your help in planning to place
returned to her home after being
hospitalized in Sarnia General
Hospital for an appendix opera-
tion.

Often, I am asked, "What can
I do?"
Here are a few suggestions:
Do a little extra cleaning up
around your place.
Use a little extra paint.
Trim your lawns more care-
fully edge along the sidewalk
etc.
Fly a few flags — again —OUR
FLAG.
Plant some trees.
The Centennial Caravan will be

Remember our first big get-
togethers for Centennial Year
