Completing good year
Teen Town is holding the 'Bat-
tle of the Bands" two bands —
at the Legion Hall from 9 pm to
1 pm this Friday, A Teen Town
"Semi-Formal" dance will be
held here at the Arena on Fri-
day, Dec. 30.
At this time of year one is
bound to look back over the past
year and I think one of the most
important events last year was
the insi elation of lights at the ball
park. This has added greatly to
a fuller recreation program for
the area.
With the swimming pool in its
second year of operation, partici-
pation was at a higher level than
ever before. Riverview park took
on a new look with the picnic
pavilion being completed near the
end of the season,
The Figure Skating Club had
their beat Carnival and year,
ever. The Playground, KinCa.rria,
Minor Hockey, Minor Ball, Bowl-
ing, Jr. Hawks and Teen Town
to name a few — all had a wand-
erful year,
This brings me up to the point
I was trying to bring out, I hope
each and everyone of you had a
wonderful year and I wish you all
a Merry Christmas and a Happy
and Prosperous New Year.

Crediton Tigers reach top rung
of play for fun hockey heap

Creditors in the third to square
the score at 4-4.
Crediton Tigers moved into
sole possession of first place
in the Rey hockey league with a
6-5 win over the Bank Boys in
the second half of Thursday's
weekly twin bill,
The win by a narrow margin
gives the Tigers eight points, one
more than the Bankers who have
held the top spot since the first
week of the schedule.
In the other half of last week's
action, the Old Timers swamped
Graham and Graham 14-4 to up
their season point total to five.
The G & G six trail in the
basement with a single point.
Fred Lamb of Crediton con-
tinues as the league's top goal
scorer, counting twice in the
Crediton win. This upped his
season marksmanship to 17,
three more than Jim ARDonald,
who has 14. Fred Wells of the
Old Timers scored four times
to move into third spot with 13
SCARE VETERANS
The cellar dwelling Graham
and Graham crew threw a scare
into the fold of the Old Timers
in the early minutes of the first
period of their game.
They scored three quick goals
before the veterans could get
untracked and were able to hang
on to a 3-1 lead at the end of
the first rest.
Dave Collins, Jim McDonald
and Gary Watt fired the G & 0
goals while Earl Wagner potted
the Old TiM S counter,
in the second session, the
eventual winners caught fire and
hit for five goals as opposed to
a single reply from the Graham's.
Bob Beyntiam hit the mark
twice with singles going to Wag-
ner, Fred Wells and Dick Ben-
nett. McDonald notched his sec-
ond of the night for the losers.
The third period proved dis-
astrous for G & G as the Old
Timers scored no less than eight
times to complete the 14-4 rout.
Fred Wells fired three and Earl
Wagner two to send their game
totals to four each. Scoring in
single fashion were Hal Flaro,
TerrY Boarne and Ron Bogart.
LAMB LEADS FLOCK
A pair of third period goals
fired by the loop's top goal pro-
ducer, Fred Lamb, provided the
difference in the 6-5 Crediton
win.
The teams had battled on even
terms most of the way until mid-
way through the third when Lamb
broke loose to put his club up
6.4. Lloyd Moore put the Bankers
within one of tying with a tally
in the dying minutes but they
failed to come up with the equal.
izer.
Stan Lovie put Crediton ahead
1-0 with the only score of the
first period. Jim Morrissey of
the winners and Bank Boys/Lar-
ry Stire traded goals in the
middle frame.
Stire notched his second of
the game and Dale Turvey and
Jim Russell aided singletons to
put the Bankers total to four
while Jim Plan' notched two for
from the management and staff

The first pee wee game last
Saturday morning was one of the
better games played this winter.
Both goaltenders came up with
good saves which kept the score
low, at 1-1. The final goal was
scored with less than a minute
left to play,
Butch Johnston scored the only
goal for the Canadiens and Paul
Robinson scored a goal for the
Black Hawks as the game was
ending to tie the score.
The next game featured plenty
of goals with a total of 15 being
scored. The Maple Leafs, who
have yet to be beaten this winter,
defeated the Red Wings 9-6.
Perry Stover the Maple Leaf
flash bad a double "hat trick" if
there is such a term for six
goals and Doug Penhale had the
"hat trick" with three to account
for all the scoring for the Leafs.
The Red Wings got all their
goal production from one player,
Captain Randy Gilfillan had the
double "hat trick" if we can use
the term again for six goals.
Games this week: 8-9, Cana-
diens vs Maple Leafs; 9-10, Ca-
nadiens vs Black Hawks. As there
is no paper next week I will
list the game time for Dec. 31:
8-9, Maple Leafs vs Black Hawks;
9-10, Canadiens vs Red Wings.
Boston defeated the Rangers
2-1 in Novice hockey and take a
two-game lead in the standings.
For Boston, John Wuerth and
Leslie Page each scored a goal.
The only goal for the Rangers
was scored by Ricky Stagg. There
were six penalties in this game
as the players warmed up to the
occasion.
Only one goal was scored in
Squirt hockey and that by a much
improved hockey player, Jim
Gregus.
Don't forget there will be hock-
ey this Saturday and next so be
sure and come.
Bantam houseleague on Satur-
days at 4:15 as usual during the
holidays. Midget houseleague
each Thursday from 7-8 pm.
This Friday the Jr Hawks take
on the rough and tough crewfrom
Blenheim.
