"I think we can refute the bad publicity and show people that Grand Bend is a nice place to visit and live in," he said. During the course of his blis- tering remarks on the press, Mr. Dalton said he was exempt- ing the "local press". Another man who received some applause at the meeting was OPP Inspector A, E. Ayers. He had been on hand to witness the presentation of an award of merit to a courageous mem- ber of the police detachment last summer, Terry Boylan. Called on for a few words, Inspector Ayers said he was "proud of the job our men did here last summer". He also said he was pleased to see the "other side" of Grand Bend. Inspector Ayers had been on hand during last summer's up- risings to direct the police. Last week, members of Grand Bend council were critical of the police work last summer. In taking office, Mr. Dalton also paid tribute to retiring pres- ident Griff Thomas. Other officers elected were as follows: first vice-president, Charles Tyndall, second vice- president, Ory Lemmon; sec- retary, Joe Gunn; treasurer, Alyn Kemp.
