After hearing several corn-
plaints from Exeter ratepayers,
council Monday night asked the
mayor's committee to give study
to various aspects of the local
nomination meeting and election.
Some members indicated they
had received calls complaining
about the fact there was no ad-
vance poll. The number of calls
received ranged from *some"
to ,slots".

Exeter council voted Monday to
hold their 1967 Inaugural meeting
on Tuesday, January 3.
The minister chosen to preside
at the event is the Rev. Phil
Gancion, who will be stepping down
from his position as deputy-reeve
at the end of the year.
Mayor Delbridge hinted he
would name the entire council to
the striking committee over ob-
jections of Reeve Boyle that such
a move would he contrary to ac-
cepted practices.
Put yourself BEHIND an Arlene SnaiThro and then let it snow, let it blow,
let it drift ... let that weather get just as mean as it wants to get. Your
worries about "getting out", shoveling, and missed appointments or work
need never bother you again.
In the words of the younger generation, "you got it made",
Because Ariens gives you "self-propelled" Operation. No pushing, Jamming
or bucking into drifts or plowed-in driveways, With lour speeds, you work at
the pace you want to work and a reverse allows you to turn around without
pushing and pulling. Two s age design principle handles heavy Wet snow,
drifted packed snow or light little flurries ... with equal ease, Four, five or

Ariens SNO•THRO,
A restaurateur in Grand Bend
for 20 years, William Dickson
Glenn, 48, died in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, Tuesday, De-
cember 6, a couple of hours after
being admitted.
He was the son of the late
George and Maud Glenn, Hensall
and operated his father's farm
after he retired, for a couple of
years before moving to Grand
Bend where he and his wife, ran
the Dawn Restaurant.
The deceased was a member
of the first council of Grand Bend
for two years. His wife, Phyllis
Gill is the daughter of the first
reeve of Grand Bend, Herman
Gill and the late Mrs. Gill.
Mr. Glenn was a member of
the Chamber of Commerce and
the Lions Club of Grand Bend
and also a member of the Blue
Water Shriners Club.
Surviving, besides his wife,
are one daughter, Patti, at home
and one son, Donald, Ottawa; two
sisters, Mrs. Morley (Helen)
Sanders and Mrs. William (Mona)
Finch, both of Grand Bend.
Funeral services will be con-
ducted by Rev. G. E. Morrow at
the T. Harry Hoffman funeral
home, Dashwood, Thursday, De-
cember 8 at 2:30 pm with inter-
ment in Grand Bend cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Messrs
Harold Bonthron, Robert Drys-
dale, Aubrey Farquhar, Duncan
Cooper, Harry Bossenberry and
Lee Jennison.

platned there were more and
more people commuting to work
in other communities and that
an advance poll should be con-
sidered.
Reeve Derry Boyle pointed out
he had mentioned this fact at a
recent meeting, but "you guys
laughed me down".
Councillor Mery Curmore then
suggested the committee seri-
ously consider changing the time
of the nomination meeting from
the present Friday night because
stores are now open on this night,
The possibility of holding it
either on a Monday or a Thurs-
day was presented.
Deputy-Reeve Phil G a n cia n
asked that the committee also
give consideration to a better
system of publicizing the polling
places.
Considerable confusion was
created at Monday's election be-
cause two polling places had been
altered from last election. The
locations had been listed on post-
ers placed in several store wind-
ows and billboards in Exeter.
The final item to be considered
is the wage of election officials.
Councillor Ross Taylor noted
that the wages received were und-
er the minimum wage standard
for the province as deputy re-
turning officers were getting $1
per hour and poll clerks received
only 80 cents an hour.
The amount paid to these vari-
ous workers and the fee set for
polling subdivisions amounted to
$176. Other expenses listed in
the accounts reached $107.30,
bring the total to $283.30. This
does not include printing of the
voters' list, posters and other
expenses involved in running an
election.
EARLY BANKER—While It is
possible that a merchant or a
public scribe founded the in-
stitution of banking, it is gener-
ally believed an English jeweler
pioneered this vocation. Sir
Francis Child, a 17th century
goldsmith who lent large sums
of money to the government,
is credited with being the first
to convert this trade to a bank-
ing enterprise. He is often called
the "father of the profession of
banking."
New gift cart at hospital
The South Huron Hospital Ladies Auxiliary have established a gift cart at the hospital so visitors may
purchase everything from stuffed toys, candy, confections and table favors for patients. The cart will be
set up in the waiting room each day until Christmas. The co-conveners of the project are Mrs. Ralph
Bailey, seated, and Mrs. Hubert Jones. They're shown finishing up some of the work on a stuffed toy.
