But there's one other large figure we should think about at this time of year, and that's the millions and millions who will mark Christmas in their usual way too with pain, hunger and sorrow. We know inere are many groups and individuals who in recent years have added the names of some of those people to their Christmas lists by making do- nations to the various agencies who attempt to alleviate some of the suffering for those poor unfortunates. They can only do it with your help — whether it be through a large or small donation. To assist people who may wish to make Christmas alittle bright- er for some of their fellow men in other lands, we print below the names of some of the agencies doing excellent work in this as- sistance. They'll be happy to re- ceive your donation. I guess it will just depend on how worked up we can get over our (+Year of the Cen- tury". Thought you might like to hear about some of them. The Cen- tennial Caravan--a c o m plet e panorama of Canada's growth as a nation will roll into town on October 10. We are so en- thusiastic about the magnetic qualities of this exhibit that a special reception committee has been formed under the capable chairmanship of Dr. Don Ecker. The winter months of 1967wi11 be just as active as the others with a snow-sculpturing contest suggested, an old-fashioned skat- ing carnival, 100 year-old church services in period costume, sleigh and cutter rides, growing beards to keep warm, (saves on balaclavas you know) and skidoo races. Although the actual program hasn't been decided yet, there will be a civic ceremony at the Town Hall to recognize the cen- tennial year coming in. Among other ideas for activities: a con- cert by elementary school pupils to tell Canada's story in song, costume and dialogue, the pos- sibility of dramatizing the Cen- tennial Play written by Robert- son Davis and Company, various parades with Centennial themes, a water carnival week including an ornamented or synchronized swimming pageant at the River- view Park pool, pioneer fall fair and winding up the year with a special Remembrance Day ser- vice in November and Centennial Christmas pageant to include all area churches. Even these partial plans may sound ambitious as was com- mented editorially in this paper, yet they illustrate the (+100 year itch" at work in this community-- all they need to come true is YOUR participation—whole- hearted and unreserved. This is one case of fever, we hope is highly contagious. Have you got it yet?
