New rates of pay for mem- bers of the Hensall volunteer fire brigade were finalized by village council meeting in reg- ular session, Monday, Although the basic rates were agreed upon at last month's con- flab with firemen a few minor changes were made. Under the new schedule, each member from the chief down will be paid a monthly stipend plus calls and a per hour rate for attending fires. The fire chief will receive $20 per month with his duputy getting $10. Captains will be entitled to $8 per month and the secretary $7. The motor mechanic will draw a monthly wage of $6 plus a further $2 per vehicle inspection, excluding fire practice night. Other members of the brigade are to receive $5 per month. In . addition to the monthly rates, firemen are to receive $2 per call and $3 per hour while on duty. Approval was given to pay mileage to the fire chief when attending area meetings. Council suggested at least five men should be on the truck when it leaves the fire hall. The property committee was instructed to meet with the fire- men In the near future to dis- cuss a set of rules. The celebrants recall their wedding day as a lovely day with no snow and the sun shining. Following their marriage they moved to the South Boundary in Stanley Township where Mr. Jones farmed for 44 years, re- tiring to Hensall in 1960. They have one son Harold, RR 2, Hen- sail; one daughter (Margaret) Mrs. Bernard Keys, RR 1 Varna; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The annual local Association of Girl Guides and Brownies was held in the United Church Tuesday evening with the largest attendance of Brownie and Guide Mothers. Discussion took place for ways and means of raising money to carry on the Guide work. It was decided to have a candy drive Saturday, February 11, Brown- ie's and Guide's Mothers to make candy, also the Cookie Drive was scheduled for May, and dis- cussion was held for a mother and daughter banquet on Guide's and Brownie's "Thinking Day" Feb. 22 at the United Church. Hedden dies in hospital Word was received of the death of Vernon Wesley Hedden of St. Catharines who passed away in the general hospital, St. Cathar- ines, Monday, Dec. 5 following a three weeks illness. In his 62nd year he was born in Crediton, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Redden, and formerly lived in Hensall for many years before going to St. Catharines. He was a cement contractor by trade. Survivors are his wife the former Dorothy Hoskins, five sons, George, Robert, Donald, Raye, Earl, all of St. Cathar- ines, two daughters, Jaqueline, H.C,, Patricia, and a number of grandchildren, six brothers, William, Niagara Falls, Harold, Dresden, Orville and Russell, St. Catharines, Frank, and Herb, Hensall; two sisters, Mrs, Ruth Carter, Clinton, (Mona), Mrs. Alex Shorthouse, St. Catharines. MODA plans new tour map The Mid-Western Regional Tourist Council is producing a completely new tour map and guide booklet on the four-county area of Wellington, Waterloo, Perth and Huron. This public- ation will be produced in a quan- tity of 60,000 and distributed throughout the United States and at border crossing points. The folder will be printed in four colours and is designed to high-light the main attractions in the four-county area. The tour and accommodation booklet which will supplement the tourist folder is designed to break the area down into approximately twelve conducted tours of one to five pages and include black and white photographs of attractions and points of interest in the tour area. They will also incorporate a two-colour map showing the route to be travelled. All of the photo material to be used in the publication has been collected by the MODA Council during the summer and the tours of the various areas have been written up by people employed by the Tourist Council that have actually taken the tours during the past months. The publication is expected to cost between $15,000 and$19,000 and it is anticipated that approx- imately $8,000 in advertising re- venue can be raised to offset the total cost.
