Exeter council decided Monday
to advertise again for a Police
constable to bring the local de-
partment up to full staff.
Their decision followed a re-
commendation by J, S, McLaren,
an adviser on police services
with the Ontario Police Com-
mission, who was in town last
week to review the local de-
partment.
Councillor Ted Wright, chair-
man of the police committee,
indicated that McLaren had given
the department a "very, very
good" report.
"He was very pleased with our
setup," Wright indicated, adding
that McLaren had stated that his
job would be most pleasant if all
his work was as easy as that of re-
viewing the local situation.
McLaren commended the work
of Cpl. Harry VanBergen, Acting
Chief, and also said council
should be complimented on the
fair treatment they have given
Chief C. H. MacKenzie during
his lengthy illness.
McLaren gave his report to the
committee after interviewing
several councillors and the police
staff.
It was explained that the police
committee had reviewed the ap-
plications received at the time
I would like to take this
opportunity to thank all
those who gave me their
support at the po I Is, Mon-
day.

At this time, I would al-

payer the compliments
of the season.
Jim Warren was relieved of his
duties and that three of the men
had been contacted to see if they
were still interested.
Two of the three have already
indicated they are interested and
members hope to hear from the
third man in the immediate fu-
ture. In addition, they have again
placed an advertisement in the
T-A to see if there may be any
local candidates.
Applications will close Decem-
ber 16 and a decision may be
reached by next meeting.
Wright reported that Chief
MacKenzie has indicated he will
be back on duty on December 12
on a full-time basis.
A letter was received at the
meeting from the Ontario Police
Commission advising that Special
Constable Irwin Ford needs only
local authority to have jurisdic-
tion in the counties of Huron,
Perth and Middlesex. He will be
sworn in on December 13 by
Magistrate Glenn Hays, Q.C., to
meet this regulation.

Judging from all reports, the
dance last Friday night went
very well, The crowd was very
good and the "London Set" were
in top form.
On December 13 at 8;00 pm
a band concert will be presented
at St. Marys District Collegiate.
The bands which will compose
the programme include the St.
Marys Marching Band, the Stage
Band, a Dance Band and a Dixie-
land Band.
If you expect to hear numbers
from the nineteenth century, then
you are in for a pleasant sur-
prise. ',More", "Can-Can", "On
the Sunny Side of the Street"
and "Walking My Baby Back
Home" are a few examples of
the type of music which will
be heard.
The St. Mary's marching Band
has been the recipient of the
trophy for the "Best Canadian
Brass Band" for the past few
years.
Tickets are available in the
office of SHDHS at $1.00 for
adults and students and at 5(4
for children under 12.
This concert is unique and
should be very enjoyable.
