HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Exeter Times-Advocate, 1966-11-17, Page 11Ninety-third Year EXETER, ONTARIO, NOVEMBER 17, 1966 Blue Water Rest Home opens Sunday Premier to officiate Expect Home filled by year end A long cherished dream of the residents of the Zurich area will become a reality this Sun- day afternoon. The premier of the province of Ontario, the Honourable John P. Robarts will at this time officially open the $626,000 Blue Water Rest home. Located on six acres of land on Highway 84, just west of Zurich, the institution will offer home services to senior citizens of the entire area. The official opening will take place about a year after work Noble Drew, director of the Homes for the Aged branch of the Ontario department of Public Welfare, A mass choir of more than 70 members from numerous churches in the Zurich, Hensall, Dashwood and St. Joseph area will be providing musical num- bers at the opening. working at top speed this week in order to have everything in readiness for Sunday's opening. When in full operation, the Home will have 20 full time employees. While basically a home for elder citizens of the community, anyone over the age of 19 can apply for admission. Admission applications will be taken by the superintendent, subject to the approval of the board of directors. Although the daily rate at the Blue Water Rest Home is set at $6 per day, those who have no financial assistance or who are only able to pay a part of the fee can become residents. The board has left the matter Shipka was first started on the site. The first bulldozer moved onto the property on November 7, 1965 and work has been going on since that date. Under the supervision of Superintendent Lance J. Reed, the 65 bed Home will offer three types of care. Normal care will be available to 30 residents, special care will be administered to 12 and 23 others can be hand- led in the hospital bed care division. Although the first patient only moved into the Home, Wednesday, Superintendent Reed expects to be at full capacity by the end of the year. Workmen and employees are of financial arrangements to the discretion of Mr. Reed after discussions with prospective residents or their relatives. Each of the three wings hand- ling the different care patients joins to a central area. This area consists of a fully equipped kitchen, a colonial style furnish- ed dining room and living room along with an attractively furn- ished sitting room. Each bedroom is bright and cheerfully decorated with drapes varying in color from orange, yellow, brown and blue. Among other dignitaries as- sisting the premier in the of- ficial opening will be Huron MLA, the Hon. C. S. MacNaughton and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Sweitzer Exeter and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Smith, Woodham visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Wray Sweit- zer, Weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Dietrich were Mrs. Reg. Brannon, Mike and Paul, Miss Helen Dietrich and Mr. Earl Dietrich, Stratford. Mr. Earl Breen, London, visited Sun- day with Mr. and Mrs, Lorne Dietrich and family. What's cooking? A dinner party held Sunday in Guelph at the home of Mr. & Mrs. James Loree, the occasion was the 5th anniversary of Mr. & Mrs. Ray Cann. Also present were Mrs. Peter Ferguson and Dr. & Mrs. L. Loree. The UCW executive met at the home of Mrs. Donald Ker- nick Monday afternoon. The annual Sunday school meeting will be held Thursday evening in the church basement. A large crowd attended the bazaar Wednesday afternoon of last week. Proceeds amounted to $350.00. Mrs. Beth Morgan, Mrs. Ken Horton and four daughters of Toronto spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Len Harris and Ernie.
