When the game was called at Hawks score fourth Exeter Hawks were on the short end of an 8-4 count to the Hanover Hurricanes in an exhibition contest at the Arena, Friday, In the above action, Bill Chipchase, No. 17 has just fired the puck into the net for the fourth Exeter goal of the night. --T-A photo MEN'S "A" LEAGUE LI BE GI ZE UN (G. KEN McKELLAR CROMARTY 3 Saturday, November 5 the CGIT of Cromarty Presbyterian Church entertained their mothers and friends at the annual mother and daughter banquet. The guest speaker, Miss Bar- bara Dougall of Exeter, was in- troduced by Mrs. M. Lamond. She told of her experiences at CGIT camp which is held at God- erich each summer and which she attended this year. the 16 minute mark of the third period the Hanover Hurricanes were leading the Exeter Hawks 8-4, The Hanover club coached by Don "Hoorn Boom" Gravett, former rec director here, par, ticipate i n the Western junior "C" circuit. The local Hawks are members of the Shamrock "D" league and will be hosting the Port Huron Beefeaters in the first scheduled game at the arena, Friday at 8;30. Friday's game was halted late in the final session when three or four players from each side engaged in vigorous fisticuffs and were joined by a group of fans. Throughout the shortened con- test 36 penalties were called by the officials, Bill Gough and Jack Holt of Strathroy. The mis- demeanors were pretty well di- vided with the Hawks drawing 19. The game started off in chippy fashion with each club getting elbowing penalties in the first two minutes of play. The Hawks were the first to hit the score sheet with Peter Lawson directing a pass from Rick McDonald into the Hano- ver cage at 6.40 of the first period. It took the visitors about four minutes to get on even terms as Jim Bell beat Tom Glavin in the Exeter nets. Bell went on to score three more times during Cromarty CGIT entertain mothers the night to lead his team to victory. The score remained tied at 1-1 for the balance of the first period as both teams were abort handed most of the time and Were content with keeping their goal area clean. In the second period, most of the rough stuff was forgotten and they stuck pretty well to playing hockey, During the se- cond 20 minutes Hanover tal- lied four times to take a com- fortable 5-1 margin. Bell hit the mark twice and Bruce Fid- ler and Glenn Long added sing- les. The Hawks came out flying in the third period and within six minutes had scored twice to cut the Hanover margin in half. Craig Chapman found the range for the first marker on a pass from Mike Cushman. Chapman was on the assist- ing end of the third Hawk goal of the night fired by Jack Glov- or at 6.55. When the Exeter boys ap- peared to be getting back into contention, Hanover broke loose again to bulge the twines on three occasions and increase their lead to 8-3. Bill Chipchase found the range for the final Hawk marker on a play started by Cushman. With about four minutes to go in the game, the fights broke out and the officials called a halt to proceedings. The first game of the new season was won by Butch John- Stores Canadiens. Butch helped his own cause with two goals with a single goal by each of Steven Harrison and John Mus- ser. Wayne 13rintnell's team, the Black Hawks, only scored one goal and that by MartenOverholt. The second pee wee garne Of the morning was won by Doug Miners' Maple Leafs by a score of 3-0. perry Stover scored two goals and Robert Whilsrnith scor- ed one for the winners. It looks as though the Canadians and. Maple Leafs are possibly the two strongest teams and in the near future some player trades will have to be made, The Novice game was very even all the way with Geary Penhale's team coming outon top with a score of 3-2. Leslie Page got the first hat trick of the sea- son to score all the goals for Penhale's team. Scorers for MacLean's team were Ricky Stagg and Marty Becker. The boys that are picked in Friday nights for the Lucan game should come out and play in the Novice House- league here on Saturday morn- ings as well. This week Richard McLaughlin and John Cooper will join the Novice hockey with Rich- ard on Garry MacLean's team and John on Geary Penhale's team. In the Squirt hockey game no less than eight goals were scored with Richard McLaughlin scoring four, Ralph Batten two, Ken Pind- er and Brian Herren one goal each. There was a good turnout in the Mite hockey last Saturday. Harvey Pfaff will look after this group of boys again this winter with some help from a few of the elder boys. Last Saturday the Novice team defeated Dorchester at Lucan by a score of 3-0. Noel Skinner, Keith Davey and Steven Schroed- er each scored.a goal. This Sat- urday at 2;30 they play Huron at the Lucan Arena. Bev Skin- ner and Harvey Pfaif will be Coach and Manager for the No- vice team this winter. Games this Saturday see Butch Johnston's (Canadiens) playDoug Miners (Maple Leafs) at 8 o'clock and Randy GilfIllan's (Red Wings) play Wayne Brintnell's (Black Hawks) at 9 o'clock. The Novice teams play from 10-11 with the Squirts and Mites on the ice from 11 to 12 noon.
