Tuesday evening, Oct. 25, five
car loads of Hensall WI members
drove to Goderich to entertain
at the Ontario Hospital. Mrs.
R. D. Elgie chaired a short
program consisting of group
singing led by Mr. Bob Lammie
of Clinton, who also contributed
two solos, a reading by Mrs.
Elizabeth Riley, and mouth organ
selections by Mr. R. D. Elgie.
Several small prizes were dis-
tributed throughout the evening.
Mrs. Redmond, a member of
the staff, took charge of gifts
for those having birthdays during
the month of October, Refresh-
ments were served by the mem-
bers of the institute. The pres-
ident Mrs. Beverly B eaton
replied to courtesy remarks

gladioli and bronze mums was the
setting Saturday, October 29 at
2:30 for a lovely autumn wedding
in Hensall United Church when
Mary Etta Susan Payne became
the bride of Sgt. GaryIraMerritt
of California, USA. Rev. Harold
Currie officiated for the double
ring ceremony. The bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Payne of RR 1 Hensall, and the
groom's parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Mervin Merritt, 41 Owalssa
St., St. Thomas.
Mrs. John Turkheim provided
wedding music and accompanied
the soloist Mrs. Don MaHoney,
Galt, who sang "The Wedding
Prayer" and "Because".
Given in marriage by her father
the bride chose a floor-length
gown of white satapeau. The
bodice was highlighted by a bateau
neckline, elbow length sleeves
and empire cut waist. Elegance
was portrayed in the gently con-
trolled belled skirt, while Chan-
tilly lace touched with tiny seed
pearls accented the waist and
neckline. The main center of
attention was focused on the de-
tachable chapel train cascading
from a tailored bow at the back
neckline and was completely sil-
houetted with the same lace ap-
pliques. The bride wore a French

Mrs. Harry Caldwell and Mrs.
Alex McGregor were hostesses
when the Kippen East WI met
in the Legion Ball, Hensall, Tues-
day, October 26, The meeting
was chaired by the President,
Mrs. Grant MacLean. The roll
call was answered by the ladies
explaining their safety pre-
cautions against fire. To the
tune of Old MacDonald had a
farm a safety slogan was sung.
Mrs. Robert Kinsman gave the
Historical Research report in
which she described with illustra-
tions "Sandwich Glass".
The business of the meeting
included notification of Achieve-
ment Day for the Supper Club
pure silk illusion veil caught up
by a flattering rosette headpiece.
She carried a cascade of gold
and orange roses.
Bridal attendants Miss Marilyn
Galloway, London, as maid of
honor, Miss Helen Payne, Port
Elgin, cousin of the bride, Miss
Sandra Merritt, St. Thomas, sis-
ter of the groom, as brides-
maids, were identically gowned
in floor-length gowns of peach
satapeau. Lace bodices featured
elbow length trumpet sleeves,
bateau necklines, and empire
waists; and were multi-coloured.
To add a final touch to their
ensemble, they wore matching
rosette headpieces accented by
cocktail veils in the peach. They
carried bronze spider mums with
moss green velvet ribbon.
Mr. GeraldMinty, London, was
best man, and Mr. Wayne Payne,
Hensall, brother of the bride,
and Mr. Don MaHoney, Galt,
ushered guests.
The wedding reception was held
in the church hall with a three
tier wedding cake centering the
head table flanked with candel-
abra and bronze and yellow
mums. For receiving the bride's
mother wore a jade green braided
ribbon with peau de soie trim,
jacket and dress. The groom's
mother chose a blue crepe sheath

of this course will be held at
Mrs. Alex McGregor's Nov. 1.

to take this course should con-
tact either of these leaders.
With lights out and a pumpkin
face glowing eerily in the dark
a ghost story was told by Mrs.
Grant MacLean. Mrs. Wm. Kyle
read an informative article on
things that puzzle husbands. Mrs.
Ernest Whitehouse chaired the
remainder of the meeting. Mrs.
Robt. Bell read a poem on An
Alphabet of Safety Tips. Mrs.
Harry Caldwell took the motto;
"Good Health and Good Sense
are two of Life's greatest bless-
ings". Mrs. B. McKinley favored
with trumpet solos accompanied
by Mrs. Ross Broadfoot. Mrs.
McKinley showed a film on
"Safety from Fires". The Resol-
utions were dealt with and Mrs.
Robert Kinsman gave the cour-
tesy remarks. Mrs. Alderdice
conducted a contest and lunch
was served by the hostesses
and the committee of Mrs. June
Cooper, Mrs. Kenneth McKay,
Mrs. Wm. Kyle and Mrs. Robert
Bell.
dress and they wore a corsage
of white and pink orchids re-
spectively.
For travelling the bride wore
a two-piece white wool suit with
black accessories with which she
wore a corsage of white and pink
carnations.
The young couple will live at
El Toro, California. The groom
has just returned from Viet Nam
where he was stationed with the
American Marines.
Wed in Scotland
Mr. and Mrs. John Tudor were married at Inverness, Scotland,
October 8. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Tudor,
Hensall and the bride is the former Elsa Morrison. The couple will
live in Toronto.

residing in Exeter for the past
several months, returned to her

Mr. William Horton of Detroit
visited over the weekend with

with his sister, Mrs. Mae Row-
cliffe who is a patient in St.
Joseph's Hospital, London.
Miss Marion Schroeder re-
turned to London after spending
the weekend with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schroeder.
Mrs. E. Sararus returned to
her home last week after re-
ceiving treatment in Clinton
Public Hospital.
Flowers in the church sanc-
turay of the United Church Sun-
day morning were placed by

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Payne and
Miss Muriel Hayman, are
vacationing this week in Niagara
Falls, Kingston, and Ottawa.
A weekly draw of $25 for 12
weeks and a $500 draw on the
13th week is being sponsored by
the Kinsmen Club, two $25 draws
have been made and the winners
were Mike Hodgert, Exeter; and
Jack Cleave, Zurich.
The public relations meeting
of Hensall WI will be held in the
Legion Hall, Wednesday, Novem-
ber 9 at 8:15 with guest speaker
