ding anniversary of their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Taylor.

The 114th Anniversary was ob-
served Sunday at the Evangelical
1313 church with Rev. Emmerson
Dorsch of Bridgeport gu e st
speaker at both services. Rev,
Dorsch was ordained to the
Christian Ministry at Dashwood
in 1953.
Special music was provided by
the choir the good attendance was
increased by visiting friends and
in the evening members of Zurich
and Crediton EUB churches and
their pastors.
Mr. Henry Hoffman of Huron-
view, Clinton celebrated his 91st
birthday Sunday October 23 with
a family dinner at the Dashwood
Hotel. All members of his fam-
ily were present including ten
grandchildren and ten gr ea t-
grandchildren.
The rest of the day was spent
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Mervyn Tieman.
Those attending from a dist-
ance were Mr. and Mrs. Nor-
man Evans and Mr. and Mrs.
Morton Charles and children of
Richmond Hill; Mr. and Mrs.
Tom Evans and family and Mr.

FOWL SUPPER
The Ladies' Aid of Zion Luth-
eran church held their annual
fowl supper Wednesday Oct. 19
for the husbands or guests. Group
3 with Mrs. Albert Miller con-
vener was in charge.
A brief business meeting fol-
lowed the supper. The visiting
committee for October is Miss
Helen Nadiger and Mrs. James
Hayter.
Bunco was played with Mrs.
Hilda Wein and Adolph Keller
high and Mrs. Ernest Koehler
and Albert Miller low.

ill in South Huron Hospital.
Miss Margaret Haist attended
the graduation in music of Miss
Elaine Powe of Centralia in Lon-
don Saturday.

and in the evening the choir of
Parkhill United Church will sing.
The Orpha Club held their pot
luck supper at the home of Mrs.
Arthur Read Tuesday, October
18. Following supper a short
meeting was held, and a report
given on the progress of the
work for the Christmas shower
to the Children's Aid Society in
Sarnia.
After the meeting court whist
was played. The prizes were
won by Miss Muriel Fallis and
Mrs. Mel Douglas. Among the
guests was Miss Rachael Young,
local director of the Children's
Aid Society.
November 3 at 8 pm in the
Grand Bend United Church, Rev.
Stairs of the Leprosy Mission
will speak and show films of
his work.
MARK ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. Carter Kerslake
were dinner guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Bob McLachlan and Mr. and
Mrs. Bill McLachlan, at Zurich
Hotel on Saturday evening. The
occasion was the 25th wedding
anniversary of Mr. and Mrs.
Kerslake. Later they were guests
at a surprise party held in their
honor at the home of their daugh-
ter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
George Vivian. The evening was
spent in playing court whist with
prizes awarded for ladies high to
Mrs. Everett Kerslake; ladies
low, Denise Kerslake; gents high,
Harold Coleman; gents low, Roy
McDonald; lucky chair, Mrs.
Russell Taylor. Mr. and Mrs.
Kerslake were the recipients of
many lovely gifts. Lunch was
served by the hostess.

Five children were presented
to Rev. A. Daynard for baptism

dies at hospital
William J. Chappel, 83, a rela-
tive of several in this commun-
ity, died in Chedoke Hospital,
Hamilton, Saturday, October 22.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Florence Reynolds, Ex-
. eter, one brother Hartley Chap-
pel; one sister Mrs. Mervin
(Gertrude) Kitching, Waterdown.
One brother Chester, predeceas-
ed him.
Funeral service took place at
the Cattel's funeral home, Dun-
das, Monday, October 24 with
burial in Grove cemetery.
DASHWOOD COOKING QUEENS
The 4th 4-H meeting of the
Cooking Queens was held at Dash-
wood Community Centre, Oct. 18
with the leaders and 12 members
present. The leaders gave notes
on "Planning Good Meals" and
the "Use of Leftovers". Mar-
garet Merner and Sandra Baker
made tea biscuits.
The 5th meeting was held Oct.
20 with the leaders and 10 girls
present. The leaders gave notes
on "How we can use vegetables"
and "types of salads". The girls
made a variety of good salads.

The Grand Bend Women's In-
stitute met Thursday afternoon.
Home Economics was the topic
with Mrs. Roy Morenz, convener
in charge.
Roll call was a style of dress
I like to wear and why. Mrs.
M. A. Burke gave the motto,
"When you are in hot water
think of the kettle and sing".
Miss Sharon Carroll, home
economist for Huron County was
guest speaker. She spoke on "How
to choose the proper styles of
hats and dresses". Mrs. Allan
Miller thanked Miss Carroll and
presented her with a flower.
Mrs. Roy Morenz read an autumn
poem. Mrs. Harold Walper, pre-
sident, presided for the business.
Jams and jellies were brought in
for South Huron Hospital, Exeter.
Mrs. Elgin Webb reported on
the County Rally which was held
at Auburn. Mrs. Raymond Kading
reported on the Plowing Match.
Mrs. Leslie Adams was named
to be the delegate to Area Con-
vention which will be held Novem-
ber 1 and 2 at Goderich. Mrs.
Hugh Morenz to be responsible
for display. Mrs. Emery Des Jar-
dins read the resolutions.
Suggestions were brought to the
meeting as to how the branch will
celebrate Canada's Centennial
Year. Lunch was served by Mrs.
Ed. Gill and her committee.

Morris Darling all of London,
were recent guests of Mr. &
Mrs. Cecil Armitage.
Mrs. Clarence Haskett enter-
tained 13 little girls Friday even-
ing, in honour of her .daughter,
Brenda's 9th birthday.
Mr. & Mrs. Fred Ford have
returned home after spending
four weeks with their son Robert
and family near Los Angeles,
Cal. On the way out they visited
Salt Lake City, Reno, San Fran-
cisco and Las Vegas. They re-
turned the Southern Route.
Miss Jean Darling RN sailed
from New York for India Friday.
Mr. & Mrs. W. F. Patterson
of Parkhill and Mrs. George
Frayne of Kirkton, have been as-
sisting Mr. Robert Patterson,
while Mrs. Patterson was in the
hospital.
Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Lewis
were Sunday guests of Mr. &
Mrs. Maurice Campbell of

Susan Crozier, small daughter
of Mr. & Mrs. Ron Crozier,
was a weekend guest of Mrs.

Mrs. Jack Arnold, owner of
The Lucan Lanes, has been on
the sick list for the past five
weeks. With the help of her
children Kathy and Bobby, Sat-
urday and Sunday and Mrs. May
Blythe during the week, bowling
has continued as usual. Mrs.
Arnold would like to start a 10
pin bowling league on her return.

Sunday callers on Mrs. Jane
Somerville, who is still on the
sick list.

bed for the past two weeks.

at Saintsbury
The WA of St. Patrick's Church
met in the parish hall last Wed-
nesday afternoon. President Mrs.
Harry Carroll was in charge.
Final plans were made for
catering to the Masonic party at
the Lucan arena Friday evening.
Following the roll call a draw
for a mystery prize donated by
Mrs. Maurice MacDonald was
won by Mrs. Earl Greenlee.
Mrs. Arnold Cunningham was
hostess for the meeting assisted
by Mrs. Maurice MacDonald and
Mrs. Heber Davis. Christmas
cards were on display, for sale by
the Guild.
Plans were made for aHallow-
e'en party for the children.
